Why do they get so worked up over social group issues and confinement for astonauts on long space journeys. If the standard "NASA astronaut" (bunch of over achiever egomaniacs anyway) can't hack it then they need to change the standard.
I say you surf the net and find the biggest net geeks they can find that never log off. After a spot check at their house to see they do in fact only leave their room to shit, get pizza, soda, and beer then sign them up to be astronauts.
These guys wouldn't even notice they have left earth, much less have difficulty handling the isolation. That is of course till Halflife 3 came out and wouldn't run on their computers.
Then we would have to have an emergency mission. Of course we could get ATI or NVIDIA to pay for the privlage of being "the official sponser of the graphics card upgrade rescue mission".
Sure they ratified it, because they expect the US to foot the bill just like everything else. Well we've dumbed plenty of money down those rat holes and all it's managed to get us are petty dictators and global terrorism.
If you haven't noticed lately all the fuel economies are starting to shoot up on vehicles in anticipation of the new EPA emmissions standards as well as a marketing angle to counter act the price of gas. On top of that alternate forms of power have been severly dropping in price. Solar panels have twice the out put at half the price they had 5 years ago and windmills are going up like weeds here in California. I see a new one every week around town. Throw that on top of the extra money going into hydrogen research.
The only thing we should be helping the third world with is population control, which we do, whether it be by injection, the pill, contraceptives, or with precision munitions.
Drat underestimated his superior underestimating skills. I will have to be far sneeker next time, and catch him in a nafarious trap of underestimating the airspeed velocity of a ripped DVD collection laden Swallow.
That's kind of funny because back when we were "great" according to you, we had just the decade before policy of carpet bombing or dropping atomic weapons on civilian populations. Kilotons is so 1940's, try mega tons these days.
Maybe we should go back to that policy since it was so effective. By the way which country are you in?
Why would we want to pre-emptive strike Canada? They give us all our good actors these days.
Yes never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon, I think they call them crossover vehicles these days, full of discs going down the highway. They've been saying that just upgrading the media every couple of years or so. The first time I heard it was floppies.
Yes that is true they actually did a comparison, which if I remeber correctly endedup here on slashdot about the "bandwidth" of the US postal service just using Netflix DVD rentals and AOL disks as the "data" being transferred. It was astonishing that with just those the bandwidth was something like a factor 300 times faster than then internet in mbps and resulted in more total data being transfered than the internet over the course of a month.
Actually I came to that realization myself a few years back at the hight of my MP3 collecting days. A 40gb drive passed among friends through the mail was much faster and had better results than looking on the net.
Is that a jet engine in your pocket, or did I cause your pants to burst into flames?
A cool concept for portable power production. A turbine is a very flexible power plant when compared to other combustions based engines since it takes little to no modification to get them to run on practically any type of fuel.
Of course does this mean I need to start carrying around a small fire extinguisher and a blast proof cell phone case to protect my ass when the inevitable rotor burst occurs?
I personally say let's keep releasing the CO2 back into the atmosphere to return it to it's prehistoric natural state, besides I just made a large purchase of potential ocean front property in.....Missouri.......and I'd like to see a healthly rate of return on my investment
What is your point? Everytime we try to "help" a 3rd world nation it seems that some "republic of..." leader turns into a petty tyrant and soaks the relief funds for his own personal gains. These days no one seems to want the kind of help the 1st world wants to provide them, all we end up with is car bombings for our troubles.
If you want to blame anyone for the problems in the 3rd world blame religion. They go in there and teach them to love Jesus and then give them vacines that drop the child mortality rate from 40-60% to 5%. It blows their mind later on when the population starts doubling every 3 years. Of course this doesn't play well with the already established religions and then you end up seeing an ethnic war flushing the whole region into the toilet.
There is no need to fight it. Everyone keeps forgetting that software/hardware is like water, sure you can do things with it, but it has a sneaky way of getting around, over, under, through, or flat out evaporate away from ever attempt to ever truly control it. Look at all the past attempts to standardize anything by the industry, the end result was always the same. The end users everyone either hacked it, worked around it, or flat out left it for something else leaving the control freaks high and dry.
If they try to hold it over Apples head by with holding content Apple can just dump a product that makes it so easy for the end user to mod that the DRM becomes even more useless than it already is, or they could simply call in their favors since practically every form of digital media creation has a huge element of Apple users.
They could just simply create their own music lable or production company and tell the big boys to piss off....oh wait they already have (Pixar)
Yes I'd agree, but most people can't afford or much less has a use for a Dodge Viper or a Ford GT or any other car that looks or performs like them which basically puts them in non-car status. While a Firebird falls into the really real car section and is cool and somewhat affordable but it is absolutely useless for anything other than cruising. These little cars are not going to get you laid, of course though neither will the Firebird above about age 22, but they will get you around town for a reasonable price and in reasonable comfort.
As far as cool factor you'd think the military, especially the Air Force would be all about cool big vehicles wouldn't you? Well sure we have armored Humvees with 50cal machine guns on the roof, but more often than not what you see scooting around on bases are mini-gas/desiels, Gems, EZ-goes, and golf carts. The top speed limit on most bases is 35mph, that combined with the fact that we can get 3-4 for of these little guys for ever Duce and half we used to have, along with almost zero maintenace, and 3-4 times the fuel efficiency has not escaped our leaders. So every year you see fewer SUVs, vans, and trucks more of these little guys. Can't wait till they mod one with armor and the above mentioned 50cal, that should be priceless. These vehicles are perfectly suited for what they are designed for neighboorhoods and crowded cities, and the way things are going don't be surprised in a few years that insurance as well as government regulation for the under 25 non-married types will end up forcing you into these types of cars. I know guys at work that have a higher monthly insurance payment than their car payment who are driving "cool" cars.
There are some words of wisdom in saying about buying a motorcycle. What else can you buy that gets 40-60mpg and can out run any production car on the planet and costs between $3000-11000. How much cooler is that? Of course try riding a few weeks in the freezing rain and you'll be begging for something dorky that happens to be dry and warm.
Actually you perspective is incorrect as well. We already have airports where aircraft are stacked 20 deep and are landing less than 2 minutes appart nearly around the clock and still the percentage of accidents is miniscule.
The factor that makes all the difference between accidents from flying verses driving is based on training, currency, and type rating. You only need one generic license to drive any passenger vehicles and in most states there are never any requirements other than paying a fee to get it renewed. Also the requirements to show driving profficiency are so pathetically low and the odds of ever lossing your license even more so when compaired to that of a pilot's license.
Essentially if they held drivers to the same standards as they did pilots right off the bat at least 25% of the population would never be allowed to drive, ever. 75% of the remaining population would not be allow to drive anything but a 50hp compact car at speeds less than 40MPH during the day and only on nice clear weather free days. Also nearly anyone involved in an accident where they were at fault or illegal activity would loose their license until a governing board could review the discretion and then most likely if they were found to be negligent loose it for several years if not permanently.
For some odd reason I see the number of auto accidents being greatly reduced if that were the case.

That wouldn't happen, you can't even buy cold medicine in quanities without getting the harry eyeball just in case you might want to start your own meth lab.
There are far easier ways of getting dangerous materials than something as painfully obvious as that.
I say who cares. I want to see a real space program take off. If we keep doing the easy "cheap" way then how will that ever happen. Put more telescopes in orbit, or better yet put one on the moon or out in deep space.
Besides if we keep messing with the penguins, they'll eat our brains.
They would deffinitely need to come up with a way for the information to be smart enough to find it's way around without the giant backlog of tracking who is connected to what.
Maybe they could add a GPS function to it so the various devices know generally where the data started from, where it is, and where it needs to go physically and could just sniff out a path through the mess of wireless devices that are in the right direction. If it hits a dead end it would back track and try a different route. Once it gets close to it's destination it could use a more traditional routing method so that only the closest points nearby are tracked reducing the backlog and the hardware requirements. Of course if both the orgin and the destination are on the move your data could very well miss it's target and become a stray clogging up the network looking for a home.
Interesting concept, it would be nice to be able to tell the gov't and the telco's to take a hike with a $50 piece of hardware.
There is an article around somewhere about the "Lillypad effect" with each person's wireless device being compared to a littly pad in the pond (the world). Each person's wireless would make up a piece of the wireless pond overlapping and connecting the whole together. There was a mention of expanding coverage through hotspots installed in your car, wi-fi phones, and handheld portables. Essentially recreating an internet by just obtaining hardware no ISP required, just adhearance to a set of communication standards. The whole thing would be self-expanding and self-upgrading as newer hardware and software become available. There would be many issues, but it would be as open source as you could get, so who knows how far it could go.
A cool concept even if it was slow it would be perfect for basic stuff like instant and text messaging and P2P distribution.
he's close. My pics off my 6.3mp Canon Rebel are in the 2-3mb file size range with the quality and size set to max (Jpeg), Double that if I'm shooting RAW. That would be about 1400 on average.
Actually they've done that for every president that was up for reelection for the past forty or so years. Ol' Billy Bob Clinton enjoyed the same election season price drop as President Bush will most likely recieve, so has Bush Sr, Reagon, Carter and others. The Saudis see the concept of 4 more years as a stabilizing factor so they don't have to adjust to the new policies of a new president. There is no grand conspiracy other than the Saudis trying influence our politics to their long term advantage.
One of life's great mysteries, why the hell did they bring so much stuff for a three hour tour?
Were they worried it would get jacked back at the hotel? Nope turns out after watching the pilot episode, that included Skipper, Giligan, Thurston and Lovy, the high school teacher (some weird hunky open shirt type, not the professor), and secretaries Marry Ann (in this one she was a ditzy blond) and Ginger. (The pilot girls were pure eye candy always running around in bikini's.)
Well turns out that though it was a three hour tour it was also their water taxi between islands. All the passengers had their luggage since they were traveling to their respective resorts and destinations. They mention all of this in the pilot. Some of the scenes were reshot with the new cast and some were reused for the first episode. Also the theme song was some crazy Latin song instead of the Gilligan's island song.

Sorry my bad those are actual transfer rates in bytes not the connection rates. Wish they would just label everything in bits and be done with it.
I have become with complacent with this paltry 170kbps down and 15kbps. I need more! I want 125mbps and I want it to be symetrical!
