Makes me think about those stupid consumer warning labels, and how dumb someone must have been to actually do something that stupid. Also, there's the rejected consumer warning labels.
I'm really looking forward to this. Not only have I read the original manga, I also have started reading the new comic that has started from it that is basically about the rebirth of Alita after visiting Mars. It's a very dynamic world that has a lot that can be played with. I also think that Jessica Alba would actually be pretty decent in the role, because she DOES have the skills as an actress, and the physical capabilites to perform like Alita, although if she were 15 it'd fit better... But, yeah, I give major props to James Cameron for picking up the idea for Alita, I've been waiting for someone to realize that there is more to this story than just the OVAs.
I want to know the sound pattern that triggers people to be horney, particularly women. Maybe I'll set up a small infra-sound system at a club, or in my room:)~~ I'm just dirty like that.
Of course it's/.ed by now, but I like the idea. I've been trying to come up with a workable linux multimedia solution for our household. We watch countless hours of anime, and windows seems excessive for just playing videos and mp3s. I'd really like to see a linux distribution geared towards being an entertainment PC.
Ah yes, another epic battle is about to commence. Similar to how TiVo and ReplayTV started battling. The biggest problem I see with Moxi is that their business structure doesn't allow people to actually 'own' the boxes. The whole craze about TiVo is it's expandability and their functionality as a stand-alone product. I'm sure when they come out with the Series3 TiVo, they will have incorporated several of the features that the general public are crying for.
Many Americans find anime a lot more appealing than a lot of stuff on TV because anime isn't as constrained by the American Standard that effects many of the popular programming.
I watch anime constantly, always on top of the latest fansubbed releases, picking up the DVDs of series that are especially good and make it to North America. I support the full circle of anime, and all of the fruit it bears.
Of it all, I've met new people, made some good friends, and experience a whole culture that I would have otherwise been completely oblivious to. I find anime to be informative, entertaining, and especially enjoyable.
So, are we going to be seeing more levels of various hacks coming through hot-cracking the slot machines, or hacking the roulette table so it always lands on 0 or 00?
With all this new high-tech gambling, there are bound to be areas where a good sys-admin could help or break a casino. I wouldn't mind doing either, as long as I got my fair cut ^_^
Since I'll probably be living it up in Vegas for spring break, why not see if I can get a nice little laptop cracking action going:p Anyone want me to be on the slots for them? Before or after the cracking?
I still don't know how M$ was able to leverage a foriegn company that well, I thought that the only multi-national evil corporations out there were Sony, Nike, and IBM...:p
Chess is still basically able to be brute forced by the large super machines, which is an intruiging feat, but I don't really concider it AI. Now, if we were able to get a computer that is able to match wits against the best Go players, I would be very impressed. Go is a very simple game to learn, but very difficult to master. There is more depth and complexity in Go than there would be in chess, therefore I concider that more of a challenge for AI.
With all this development of 3G networks for phones, when might we see a true wireless internet over this network instead of the breadth of DSL and Cable companies? Surely there cannot be that much of a technology gap between making the 3G network accesible to wireless services, it would be a great last-mile solution in areas that have cellular coverage, but are outside of the range of an operations center.
I wonder if it'll give me the same headaches? I mean, after all that 3D pr0n, I'd already expect a headache, but what about when I'm just doing research?

This same issue just came across on the Departmental Computing mailing list for my college University of Oregon. The following is an excerpt from an e-mail by our Senior Security Engineer on the subject:
I think that port 135 might be common here. But
that's gonna hurt, because I think that port number
has historically been overloaded to now mean more than one thing depending on which Win OS version you are running.
Here's an XP -> SMBd example.
I can see that by using WinXP machine and testing
net send "blah"
This uses an ephemeral port on the source and targets port 135 UDP on the destination. Succeeds.
MS: Q150543
Or DCOM stuff like this:
Protocol: DCOM
In: TCP on port 135
You must open TCP and UDP on port 135. This port is used for initial Windows Media server-to-client and server-to-encoder communications, as well as essential processes. The protocol used for these initial communications is DCOM.
Microsoft says block it at the firewall:
MS Security Bulletin
Looks like a toughy though. I think we could break some stuff easily here if we're not careful. We'll have to talk this over.
Removing Winpopup.exe or disabling Windows Messenger service seems like an obvious fix for a disgruntled user.
Well, concidering I room in a house with 4 other tech-guys (we prefer to avoid the term geeks), and we all have cell-phones, this would be the perfect pet for us. Especially since the rental angecy won't allow pets in the house... And I really dislike Aibo, well, maily just Sony, especially after they bought out Hell.
That could be concidered a very effecient Peer-to-Peer relationship, however, I'm still waiting until I can get 802.11a wired directly into my brain. The idea of it is simply a little disturbing for me, especially when dealing with power regulation. I wouldn't want a simple thing like a business card exchange to become a 'shocking' experience.
Ah, back to the good ol' days of pirating. Well, good new days? Who knows, all I know is that it'll be interesting to see walk the plank for poor quality, or stealing the captian's mead.
I was wondering if we could get a Law School Chicks for Geeks book too... They're really cute, but I don't know how to ask one on a date without getting sued.

Hey, are you dissing my titanium spork?

About time something came along to keep watch over my Aibo!
So, how long before someone's going to put together the Aqua package of x86 and have OS X applications able to run on x86 architecture?
