    i guess im confused then. i didnt know what it was either, to be honest. but i wanted to. so, i clicked on this link first. youre right, this didnt give me much. but, i then clicked on the documentation link on that page which told me all i wanted to know. sounds to me like i dont know anything more than you, i just was a little more persistent with my 2 clicks. anyway, if you havent gotten a good description of it yet, it seems to me to be a highly configurable and pretty monitor for various hardware resources, etc. im not sure what all the fuss is about, really.

    it would seem to me that most of the people that read /. tend to follow along. this makes even the link to the previous article unnecessary. however, seeing as how i can easily understand how some people wouldnt always want to get their news from here, you would need some sort of a recap. they gave this in the previous story, didnt they? also, from all the previous articles you have the links to the actual site that explains it all. /. is simply regurgitated news, you have to click on links to get the real stuff, if the /. blurb isnt enough.

    i dont see the big deal.

    you also cant send anything for $.37, either. i think the idea is that the post office will have to raise the price of a letter (quite a bit, i would guess) to have all items trackable. its not a new idea, no, but you cant send anything cheaper than several dollars thru fedex or ups. from what the article says, a lot of people want their stuff trackable, even if its a little letter they only payed .37 to mail. the .37 wont stay, but itll be cheaper than fedex/ups, i bet, which i believe is the idea.

    you can pay extra for the paperwork/service that gives the ability to track the package/envelope/whatever. the way i understand this article, the usps would require this on ALL letters, postcards, packages, everything. i believe that to be the difference.

    among other things, the existence of 13 unions in my dads location in tulsa, ok, plays a major roll. dont get me wrong, his has helped him out a lot, im jsut saying that that kind of situation will be prone to conflict, inefficiencies, and slothful reactions to situations.

    management is also a serious problem. he was telling me that when a circumstance that requires a manager comes up, they all hide. when its over, they come out. ridiculous.

    perhaps you should try an actual distribution of linux, as oposed to just the generic linux 9.1. i find it installs better due to its actual state of existence

    i dont know who actually made it, but it says radio shack on it. its white, ps2. yeah, no clicks when you scroll. i love it. still use it for my new machine. i love the smooth scrolling. also, it has the smoothest...what would i call it, ball action(hehe)? almost as good as an optical rolling across the table. best mouse ive ever had. i like it better than my 5button m$ optical usb im using now at work. cant beat $6, either.

    my fingers dont do horizontal bending when on a mouse. its that simple. they bend sort of front to back when on a mouse, which is convienent for a vertical scroll, not a horizontal one.

    i do think it would work for the thumb, tho...

    i bought a dual scroll wheel mouse like 4-5 years ago for $6 on sale at radio shaft. even has a third button. only problem is that they dont have win2k/xp drivers for it, hehe. only works win9x.

    that seems like a hell of a lot of investment, time, and trouble to me. getting cows or goats? sure, they dont ever need vaccinations, food(winter), care, fencing, etc...

    im not arguing that it isnt a much greener solution, dont get me wrong. im just saying that kind of investment isnt a feasible one. also, goats, cows, etc, dont just eat grass. they level every living thing in the fence. my folks like their trees.

    some people have a lawn that is too big to take care of with an electric. my parents have 5 acres in oklahoma that has too many trees to use a tractor with a "brush hog", but it is far more than an electric or manual mower could handle. also, that would be one hell of an extension cord.

    figure that, a view thats different from yours and not wrong. amazing.

    The article doesn't say Google's search algorithm isn't capable of refining search results. It's saying that Google's method is flawed.

    sure, i agree with that, well said.
    A perfect search algorithm should return exactly what a person wants, no matter what they type in the search field.

    what? are you serious? there is no way that if i type in "oil," google should know that i mean olive and not 10w40 synthetic. thats ridiculous... perhaps i misunderstood you?

    1. you obviously dont live in a college town. not everybody can drive a car, despite their posession of a card that says so.
    2. i doubt very seriously that you could keep 750 horsepower on the track at 200mph.
    3. if you could keep it on the track, i seriously doubt you could to it with the traffic of a typical nascar race.

    i dont like nascar either, my problem with it is simply that it is boring on tv. probably better live, but ill probably never know.

    to say anybody can do it is ridiculous.

    i went to the vans warped tour to see a couple of my favorite punk bands (tho not my sole musical taste, just a enjoyable little spur off my usual likes) and it was real work to avert the eyes from all the kiddies. there were little kids showing off stuff that little kids shouldnt even have... it was aweful. there were, of course, a few older gals there that were hot, but much to my dismay it wasnt enough to make up for all the li'l 'uns.

    /end old fart rant (and im only 23...)

    i havent found a good web editor for linux that has all the built-in ftp and the bells and whistles that dreamweaver has. i do flash at work too, so...

    now, there are two results that could come from this post.

    1. you could say, "hey, hadnt thought of that, youre right."

    or...

    2. you could say, "hey moron, havent you ever heard of $perfect_MX_replacement?"

    so im thinking to myself i win either way, id love to switch back to debian at work, but win2k has the macromedia stuff. and dont start talking about Wine, okay? ive spent several hours trying to get that to just run the installer for MX with creeping success. maybe im a moron, i dunno.
