That's very interesting. One question: If IPv6 is really such a mess (as Mr. Bernstein says), why does nobody ever talk about it? Heck, even this comment counts 0 replies!

Is it really true that there is no clear transition plan for IPv6?

Can the impact speed be really that fast? Before the piece of foam fell away from the shuttle, it was moving at the same speed. How are the acceleration and deceleration phases done technically? Since it's a conveyor belt, they can't just slow down the whole thing once you move towards the end (as it would slow everybody down).

    I see two possibilities:
    1. At the end of the 9kph belt, there is a 6kph, and then a 3kph belt, and people have to jump from belt to belt
    2. The platforms that everybody stands on are collapsible: To speed up, they grow longer, and to speed down, the become shorter again.

Could you enlighten us in this aspect? Thanks!

What kind of satellite or spaceship do you want to launch off mars? Building satellites and spaceships is difficult, you don't want to build all these facilities on the mars, too, don't you?

OK, so then the real question is: how do you get the satellites and spaceships off the earth?

I think your idea is interesting, but unless you move all construction facilities, the sub-contractors, the mining for raw materials, and the 1 Mio+ people working for them to Mars as well, you always have the problem how you bring your satellite/spaceship to the mars in the first place.

  20. First person vs. 3th person perspective on Uru - Ages Beyond Myst Analyzed · · Score: 4, Interesting

I think the biggest problem with URU is that they gave up the first-person-perspective and went with a 3th person perspective. FPP was what made people feel like they are actually at another place. I'd be happy to explore hundreds of "ages" (levels) with a first person perspective - but with a 3PP, the game instantly feels like another episode of Leisure Suit Larry.

On the other hand, it's pretty difficult to create a multi-user-environment with FPP, because people don't always see each other. But Quake team matches have shown us that even with a FPP, people can develop a small relationship with each other.
