There appears to be some confusion over the definition of "forthcoming". It's unlikely you'd say for example "the forthcoming heat death of the universe."
While I don't think that "cells" should have any rights, I don't think we can consider them guilty unless they're part of a human. It does raise the question though, does a cell have to be born to possess "Original Sin?" Or does it have Original Sin if at any time it could have been part of a human at some point in the future... I should probably email the experts (office@net.va).
I expect the process list will have to be kept on a high end external database server so that reasonable performance metrics can be collected and monitored.
So 20+ years of "making money" is not a way to strategically guide the evolution of a large software project. It's a feedback loop that appears to lead to an evolutionary dead end.
Another 5-10 years or so and we'll be able to compare & contrast with OSS- ie. letting developers and user community determine where a product goes...
Don't get me wrong, I give MS lots of credit. I don't think PC's would be where they are today without them. It's gratifying to me though that the "good of the whole" can win over a 10yr lead and billions of dollars in "R&D" & marketing.
Wow are you deluded. I've never bought a version of Windows - they just came with them machine 'cause I had no choice. That being said, 2k was the last version I used.
I'd bet a large % of fellow/.ers are in the same boat.
At this point, I think its time to be frank with your team about their progress on Vista and perhaps consider a different approach. I'd recommend renaming Vista to Vistex and spinning up a linux distro. Shouldn't take too long and then you can put all this ugliness behind you and we can all move on.
Who the heck are these pilots calling when they should be focusing on driving the damn plane!? This sounds like a pilot training issue. If we prohibit them from using their cell phones are they just going to start playing solitaire or tetris on their Game Boys?!
Ok, 'nuf of that.
So RF will eventually cause an accident? Are they susceptable to intereference from cosmic radiation as well? Maybe they should fix this problem by better shielding on the susceptable devices rather than making an already sucky ride even more boring.
This seems like a dumb precedent. For many, having everything come together and configured to play nice is extremely valuable. I like the fact that my favorite *nix comes with nearly everything I need.
Somebody needs to put the lawyers & CXO's on a shorter leash and focus on what matters - being competive because your stuff works better.

I'd hazard a guess though that the two acquired engines lag *far* behind the number of installations that are solely based on myISAM which, as I understand it, is still mySQL AB's.
Hopefully at some point they'll be able to provide the functionality that drove sites to use innoDB independently, whether that be in integratde into myISAM or through an as yet unnamed engine.
Somebody should run over to Bill's Place and let them know what Mr. Graf has to say about software like SugarCRM. They want to reconsider their partnership.
Seriously? Nothing to see here folks, high potential gains is often associated with higher risks.
Isn't that why web based forms are replacing corp email addy's for customer communication? Something that forces interaction into the communication process and makes it more difficult for automated comms? I think this is analagous to the way people hang up on obvious telemarketers, ie. its a recording or there's a script being read. Now that I think about it, I don't like dislike advertising, I just dislike the blanketly automatic stuff, if I'm not part of the vendor-customer dialog (from the onset), then there's very little value in their comm's.
Respectfully submitted as I type the intentionally obscured word into the slashdot comment submission text box...
Out of curiosity, what's wrong with gluing together components? The painting by numbers analogy to programming can work as long as the template and palette is acceptable. Granted, you still have to understand how the systems behaves in its entirety, but you have to in either case.
Interesting choice of words "monkeyed with." I'm surprised that monkey training isn't a hot, high paying career in The Land Of Redmond.

Having opt-out's slain is frowned upon by the legal system.
Are any of you getting the feeling that Vista is being done by the same team that did the Big Dig?

Respectfully, Long time Windows & Linux User
I apologize, I'll try to be more cleare in the future.
I hate to add fuel to the fire but these sound like indications of a flawed design & development environment...
Wasn't this an episode of Stargate: SG-1?
petabyte !== 1,024 terabytes
petabyte == 1,000 terabytes

Kibibytes is just so much more fun to say. Especially when it leads to "kibbles & bits."
I read in an old British study that this is only a problem if the cell phone weighs more than a duck.
I think it's time for a Study Study. Here's my prediction: Study Says Most Studies Aren't Studies

It's all smoke and mirrors, well mirrors anyway.
Is there an extension to this premise where software can end up being QA'd without actually going through any testing? Now THAT would be exciting.
This should make surge protection and UPS MUCH easier.
Maybe next, MS will buy Apple.
