Is that really so improbable? I do the AVG/Spybot S&D/Ad-Aware jig once a week or so, but they never found anything that wasn't there from the beginning, and frankly don't see why I should let them consume system resources the rest of the time. So I'm not doing all that much beyond running Kerio PF and using Firefox/Sylpheed instead of IE/OE -- and yes, I've had to learn to avoid the flashy, ad-supported junk-ware that's shoved in your face when you're new to the web -- so it's not like I actually trusted Windows (updated or no) but no, it doesn't take all that much to not get 0wned. Then again, maybe everything I'm typing right now is being logged, who knows..
Well, porn doesn't pretend to enjoy your company, does it... surely that's the appeal *here*, no? Then again, you have to bribe "her" into acknowledging your miserable, worthless-as-a-mere-person existence, so, I dunno... maybe "she" was meant to appeal to "human ATM" fetishists (I'm sure they exist... somewhere).
Or you could get a GMX.de freemail account with 1 GB, no wait, a web interface and POP3/SMTP access, a rather efficient spam filter, and something like a shareable web-based file storage area.
Hee... well, thank you ~ more than just seemingly intelligent, I hope:} -- but, see, I never said I was a woman (OR a man)... maybe you're setting yourself up for disappointment? (I'm sorry, but I just prefer not to be treated on a gender basis)
What you say sounds strangely comforting (even though it does get me riled up a little), and I wish I felt like I had a place, but I suspect that in the real world I won't ever be capable of actually living by either gender's role without sorta reassembling my mind, and even then it might not be the "appropriate" gender's role. And the same or something similar goes for most of my friends, I believe. I'm all for pointing out that being a house-wife/-husband isn't a "failure" in any way; all I'm really opposed to is telling one half of the population that that's their "place" and the other half that something else is theirs, biologically predisposed or not.
And how would you feel if you were told your place is and, for the greater good of Society, you won't get a choice -- too bad if it doesn't work out for you and you end up utterly dependent on people you didn't 'choose' either? Even if everyone who isn't happily married had a huge family to support them, that could be a pretty dismal, clipped wings sorta life... just like forcing a 'career' lifestyle on some people is.
'Having a place in the home' isn't inferior, I respect it a lot, and actually "feel" more "worth" in it than in most jobs. It actually ticks me off a bit how girls are made to feel that all the classic "girl" stuff is so inferior to all the classic "boy" stuff and they could do math too if only they realized it; doesn't that actually reinforce the idea that things that require social skills and a "nurturing" nature aren't respectable? But social skills and a nurturing nature can be found in men, too, and not every woman is like somebody's idealized idea of femininity. Some are pretty offended by the notion that that's what they're supposed to be like, just like some men will be offended by the notion that they're supposed to be the money-making, fighting-the-hostile-world protector types.
I don't want to be told that I must/mustn't take this or that route because of the genitalia I was born with. (Yes, I think sexism always goes both ways, even if men get paid more for behaving appropriately.)
(Besides, when was The Cure a synth pop band?)
Not to mention that Front 242 isn't a German band. Seems all the interesting stuff has taken/is taking place where the author wasn't/isn't looking. A shame..
...but I think I'm quite in agreement on some points.
The reason I was so damn impressed with the SID wasn't just the expertise of a handful of composers but the way its unnatural, alternately gritty and spooky sound went together with the melancholic, psychedelic or just plain strange quality of some of the music. I'm thinking of darker themes like those of Warhawk, Zoids or Lightforce here, not the happier fare of Thing on a Spring or Giana Sisters.
There was something truly unique about SID music that got lost when "everyone" got Amigas and games started to use sample-based "tracker" music. And now everything's just playback or at best a form of "DJing", or so it seems (must admit I haven't examined too many modern games). Many games do have great, atmospheric music -- more listenable in the long run than even my favourite SID music. But still... I was so in awe of this puny brown breadbox sweating out such strange and wonderful sounds live and on its own, so to speak. Even the electric mayhem sounds of Atari 2600 Missile Command had...something -- the way this was truly computer-generated, not prefabbed elsewhere like the soundtrack on a video cassette.
Nowadays every computer can reproduce every kind of recordable sound -- that's great, and I wouldn't ever want that development to not have happened, but somehow it's just not very unique or impressive -- using the computer as a tape recorder doesn't have much to do with the medium computer; listening to music in mp3 format doesn't make it this particular computer's "voice". I often say the same about graphics -- merely imitating reality isn't really the most artistic or interesting application of improved technology. It isn't real; why not use that to your advantage?
I think I agree with the article there, though maybe the author should listen to some Autechre or cEvin Key or what have you instead of complaining about the repetitive, simplistic beat of dance or industrial music piped into clubs and dubbed over with offensive lyrics and banter. Most clubs aren't exactly places where I'd expect to hear intelligent electronic music. (Besides, when was The Cure a synth pop band?)
There're software synthesizers, of course, but does this approach play a role in game audio? I found Trash242's (?I think) suggestion, posted a little further down (or up, depending), very interesting. Would be great to see it happen.
Gamepad replacement: Frown for button 1, twitch nose for button 2, purse lips for button 3, stick out tongue for button 4, wag left/right ear for shoulder buttons,...
And yes, Jessica Alba was unbelievably stunning, drop-dead gorgeous, and every other synonym for beautiful that there is. I don't care what anyone says, she is the most perfect female specimen possible. =D
Funny. That alone immediately suggested to me that I'd probably disagree. *looks her up*... yes. It's that kind of beauty. Not that I'd say no to looking like that, but nah, doesn't tickle me. No offense intended, of course; you can like whatever you want - I'm just being a rebel against mainstream aesthetics or something. Maybe it's the hair, makeup, general style... and maybe I need to associate a voice, an attitude, a mode of behaviour with a person to think beautiful. Okay, no idea where that little rant came from... sorry.
I still have no idea which Jedi returned in Return of the Jedi. Luke: okay, but he wasn't exactly gone. Obi Wan: dead. Vader: dead. Yoda: dead. Leia: isn't a Jedi. Hm.
Dunno, but I do remember a console with a bunch of built-in games (more than 10). One of them was a dragster race, and there was the usual set of Pong-alikes. It seemed the next step up from my b&w Pong console (it had a shoot-the-square game as well which I tried to operate with a flashlight... *blushes*). I wonder if there's an emulator for one of these so I can ruin some more memories.
Well... I can answer the phone, respond to e-mail and IM even if I've just had my third shower, am still in bed or knee-deep in chaos or simply feeling too awful to face anyone in person. On the other hand, I often ignore the doorbell, unless of course I'm expecting somebody or know it's just the mailman or something. This might be different for people who're used to having friends come over, of course.
I have an Amiga magazine article from ~1990 somewhere that reviews such a "solution" (don't remember how much fit on a single VHS tape, or how error-prone it was, or if there was any extra hardware involved...)
But... where's the typo? Or the irony?

Preventive triple-tasking? XP Stopper Edition? Eh, ok, I'll go home now.

Mmh... can't we do that here?
Sorry, but Y! won't let me log on with Gaim anymore I think.

And isn't life in a prison cell stress and punishment enough already? I know I probably couldn't cope with it. Consider yourself modded up in spirit.

Dunno, could be fun (for anyone who's watching).
Been done; it's an easter egg in the original mainframe Hunt the Wumpus - it's hidden between the 23rd and 24th lines. You'll need 1D goggles, though.
Indeed - more emotionally involving than Minesweeper, and which of the two has the simpler graphics? We're on to something here.
Thanks. I... uh, I feel like an idiot -- that should have been so obvious.

Not only that, they switched the e and i around. It's Schiessbude (shooting vs. shitting)

Überdog. (Had to...)
