Bad analogy, Google can not follow me 24/7 simply because I don't spend that much time on the internet. The few hours a day I'm online I see myself being in a public place, if someone want to follow every step of my boring life and habits, well more power to them, why should I care?
I originally started watching the show because of "Terminator" in it. The first episodes were barely watchable, almost unprofessional like somebody said - reminded of a high school project. For me it got really good once they introduced the T1000 and later hooked up Cromarte's body to the AI. The episodes that showed interaction of the emerging AI with humans and the T1000 were very interesting and thought-provoking.
I grew up in the soviet union at the time when dental equipment could only be compared to Gestapo torture tools (no anesthesia, very low rpm) . Even now the childhood trauma makes me so nervous that it takes twice the normal dose to make the sensations acceptable, even though I rationally know that there is nothing to be afraid of anymore.
I agree, I switched back to pc gaming after a year-long detour into console (xbox360) gaming. At first I was near ecstatic, no more more upgrade treadmill, excellent interface (from MS nonetheless!!), great selection of games - and thanks to its North American origin and DX-based development you get PC-type games, not that weird Japanese crap. The reason I came back to PC gaming: FPS and console controllers - not meant to be together, despite what HALO fans say. Disconnect from the modding community. EXTREMELY infantile multiplayer crowd coupled with Live microphone = near instant brain explosion. Judging by the voices 80%+ of players on Live! are prepubescent boys with an attitude problem. Like I want to hear some fat 12 y/o yell at his mom to bring him pizza, cause he's playing GOW and can't be bothered to move his fat ass. The graphics hardware is getting a bit old which is VERY noticeable compared to what games look at 1920x1080 on my friends PC gaming rigs.
This is not a fair endurance comparison. Do you think a single human can chase a moose for 2-3 days w/o rest? You'd collapse from exhaustion, probably far sooner than the moose. We win doe to effective group hunting, but that is another issue entirely.
Initially they didn't know, but by the mid-war I'm pretty sure it was obvious they weren't going to Palestine and there was no return from the "relocation camps". By that time the western governments had received plenty of reports of what was going inside the camps but chose to ignore/not to believe.
I spent countless hours playing duke on Kali with klos tcp/ip drivers for dos. The multilayer was much more fun than quakes. Holoduke, tripwires, dropping some pipe-bombs then luring people into an elevator and BOOM!
Because you must think that it's better to perish in a gas chamber after months of humiliating existence in a concentration camp then to die fighting next to your comrades.
Ok, here it goes:
1) This one is more for your future business: Dual-license your code (GPL/Proprietary), just like Troll-tech does with QT, this way even if a hostile competitor acquires your company just to shelf your product, the code will live on in the hands of volunteers.
2) Don't chase after IPO, seriously Google got pretty far while staying a private company, and while it is not as common anymore, some of the multibillion dollar companies are
private, for instance Mars,INC - $20 billion in sales, entirely private. This way you can say a big FUCK YOU to anyone who approaches you with unwanted intentions, and what's more important you are not responsible to any stupid SHAREHOLDERS just yourself and your customers (every time a subject of company ethics comes up here on Slashdot there is is always this excuse - they HAD to the evil thing because by law they must maximize shareholder income).
You are a seriously enlightened person, but most western people subscribe to a completely different mode of thinking, if they get an uncomfortable symptom bothering them they just want to take a quick pill to get rid of it for a time. A pill for headache, for bloated stomach, for diarrhoea, for heartburn, just take a pill and go on with your lifestyle until you make it into your 60s and are a wreck kept alive by a cabinet full of drugs. This is the true value of western medicine. It doesn't occur to them that most symptoms are a sign of a lack of balance in the body that can be "treated" and prevented by regular exercise and a healthy diet. Or that eating microwave ready shit that has been shipped half across the globe and frozen and refrozen countless times and stuffed full of preservatives and artificial flavourings simply can't be healthy by common sense alone.
Seriously, I don't see anyone here in Russia buying this device. Here you invest 200 bucks for xbox360 or closer to a thousand for a decent gaming rig and then pirate the games. But maybe Junis down in Afghanistan could use one.

Funny you say that, I've just helped a bank to save no less that 40K in upfront fees alone with mysql. Not a long time ago through some connections (always make connections in college!!) i landed myself a nice position at a rather large state bank, lucky for them I got there in time because the salesmen had just swooped in with their oracle this and db2 that. I just said NO. Later that evening I pulled an old cely out of the closet, reformatted the hard drive, grabbed a UPS from an upstair office, put Vector Linux on it and in 4 hours it was up and running MySQL. Everyone's happy (xcept the stupid IBM and Oracle of course), the server is ruuninng accounts for hundreds of thousands of customers, the bank was not cheated out of the money by sleezy suits and I got a fat bonus and a paid for vacation. And if I ever need more power and scalability I'll just throw postgres in, cause I hear it's more "enterprise ready".
I agree, it's the Americans who are brainwashed here. Talking about MK rockets when american economy is fucked up beyond belief and is only kept afloat by the printing press running 24/7 while the healiy armed populace seemingly engages in sensless mass murder almost weekly. The scary Iran hasn't attacked anyone since the Islamic revolution and neither has DPRK, its your beloved USA that illegally invaded Iraq, Vetnam and a bunch of smaller countries such as Grenada and Panama. The world should be scared of America not Iran and NK with their toys.
Way to go, dude. MIT is arguably the best engineering school in the US and DeVry is a non-accredited vocational school. What the parent probably meant is that there is a lot of middle ground, namely hundreds of state universities that are not top research places but otherwise offer great educational opportunities.
What an interesting topic! And what a shame it was hijacked by this giant strawman argument. This is not about Dyson vs Gore. This is about Dyson vs the entire community of actual climate scientists.
Just answer a simple question - do you like being taken hostage and enslaved by the NON-FREE software you use?

Wow, $500 and and a $60 hard drive. I can see why professionals aren't exactly getting excited about this "challenge".

Software companies do it all the time, offer discounts for their own programs if you provide proof of purchase of competitors software.
Current generation CPUs with proper cooling already overclock to 8GHZ or more.

Hanson are better! or they used to be, I don't remember, it was a long time ago...
I'd like to see you try. The BEST outcome for you would be that you will never be able to board an airplane.

Do you REALLY think that NK considers it's missiles and nukes as anything other than a deterrent against western sponsored "regime change"?

The ultimate irony is that PERL itself was created by a linguist studying extinct African languages, not a professional computer scientist.
Why not give ME 140 million US dollars? I promise to spend it entirely on American made products. Wouldn't it be stimulus?
