    I see, actually if you are s small business under BSA radar it's even free. Now stop thinking small and consider a corporation with tens of thousands of desktops. Even with massive discounts the cost of an OS upgrade alone is in the millions of $$. Add actual useful software and Linux is suddenly starting to look damn good.

    Regarding your comments about machine emotions. While they will not age like we do, they won't be indestructible and having "realized" that they will act in self-preservation. Wouldn't they ten develop such emotions as for instance "fear of death"? I believe this is an example of emotion that will naturally appear in a purely cognitive entity w/o any biological mechanisms built-in.

    I dont store porn or warez, so I'm satisfied with my 60 gb harddrive. Installing vista would mean that instead of simply upgrading from XP (taht takes less than 2 GB) I'd have to get a whole new disk and reinstall and migrate my programs to it.

    Please continue. Like it or not he was elected by an overwhelming majority that would vote for him AGAIN, if he hadn't stated on numerous occasions that he will not run again. Economy, yeah it's mostly oil/gas fueled now but it's been changing and there is a lot of investmement into hi-tech sector. Here in Siberia private investor Rosevrodevelopment is building a 17 billion rubles worth of office space and laboratories for the Technopark project.

    I wonder what EU country you're from. I'm an actual Russian living in Russia and i have a strong feeling you have been trolled by an anonymous coward. There is absolutely no danger in posting your opinion in an online English speaking forum or a Russian speaking forum. What I'm concerned with is a growing number of articles in the western press pushing the public opinion in the West towards a new Cold War. Putin has stated repeatedly that he would not run for the third term. Kasparov and other Berezovsky funded clowns have less support than Communist parties in America. But they are well knows as subjects of jokes, I swear I get to hear a new one about radioactive poisoning every day now.

    How do you think deals in other black market areas are conducted? I suspect most of the underground drug deals are not scams and the actual exchange of criminal merchandise does take place. Criminals do have their own brand of ethics and 'honor'.

    I believe that MS is not acting in my best interests, now all i'd have to do is buy a share and sue? Maybe you meant majority shareholder? Then maybe companie's founders should have done the smart thing and kept 51% of the shares to themselves.

    Pretty insightful! This also means that Linux will not take hold on the desktop as long MS tolerates the rampant piracy of Windows.

    Bad analogy, maybe most stores won't let you do it, but at any marketplace ( I believe they are called farmer's markets in America) you can ask to taste anything your see before buying. And really, why shouldn't you?

    Seems like a common tendency this days. Have you tried patching VS2005 with SP1??? This thing takes HOURS to prepare for install and in some cases DAYS to patch (on older but not ancient hardware)

    Maybe in Seattle, but even here in Russia it's common knowledge that your boss is a faschist that throws chairs at people screaming "I will KILL Google!!". A number of years ago I was present at one of the MS regional manager conference in Russia and Ballmer was present there. It was so like the Nazi rallies it was palbably scary. Baller starts -" KILL company XYZ!!!" And then hundreds of hands thrown into the air -"WE will KILL THEM!!". We have Microsoft, Intel and Oracle campuses. Only the most desperate choose Microsoft. Working for Microsoft is embarassing outside your Seattle ghetto.

    You're wrong about the visas tho. When a foreigner from a country that requires a visa (like Russia) enters US they attach a special from to your passport. Upon leaving the customs official is supposed to detach it. In 1997 they forgot to take the form off my friend's passport upon leaving. He was subsequently barred for 7 years from entering the States. Several trips to US embassy in Moscow couldn't resolve the situation.

    Maybe because the other theory, namely the Static Universe that had been popular in the first part of the 20th century couldn't explain the Hubble's observations (redshift)? The Big Bang theory simply explains the facts better. That's how science works.

    Pure flamebait. Programming is a mathematical activity. Knowing useless trivia about processors is orthogonal to being a good programmer and it wont make you smarter. FYI, Logo is a variant of Lisp with some magic to get rid of parenthesis. Incedentally, you don't need to know useless shit about CPU registers in order to create absolutely beaut5iful code in Lisp.

    I live in Russia and my very wise mother0in-law once said that one should first learn about their own country's places, tradition and history before going sightseeing abroad. it's true for other large countries too. Why spend thousands of dollars when there are so many unknown wonders at home?

    I see. So someone who kills a habitual welfare mom should not only avoid punishment but also receive a reward from the state. That'd be probably less cruel than the welfare-to-work programs you have in the States.
