As always, they're arguing that using another program or set of programs to circumvent the code that Blizz uses to try and stop people from using bots and other hacks violates the DMCA...And it's hard to see how they're wrong in that. The anti-virus argument is an over broad generalization; I don't know of any case where a virus actually modifies WoW binaries.

Agree with the DMCA or not, this is a "valid" use of it.

While I'm all for preserving historic architecture this place is a fricking dump...It was a dump even when it was new, just the kind of place that you would expect to house a startup that was run by a crackpot who only hired kids straight outta college (because his former colleagues refused to work with him).

Tells you something about the place that during the 50s a bunch of kids right out of school were so fed up that they quit in a group after one year. Think how likely that would be today, and imagine what it would have been like back then, when you expected to stay with a company much longer.

In that situation, I would hope that I would have taught my kid enough to get the hell out of the way while I did whatever I could, and not just stand there unable to comprehend that the world isn't the fluffy land that they've always been taught it was.

That's just reality, and while I'm not going to teach my kid reality by making them play violent video games (don't think it would work, among other issues), I'm going to make damn sure that they know that the world can be scary.

It's less important these days to be able to generate an unimportant piece on a topic of little interest, than it is to be able to do some of the research...Test the students ability to find information, rather than make them generate relatively pointless information. Research skills are always important, and moreso these days because of how difficult it is becoming to separate good info from bad info.

Then follow up by increasing the number of tests in a class up from 2 a semester for most liberal arts classes in my experience, to 4 or 5. You won't see so much of an improvement in writing ability, unfortunately, but you should be able to accurately measure the students understanding and "motivate" them to learn the material, and if they're not writing the papers anyway, it's no loss.
