i guess it kinda helped in the immersion that i named those characters after a girl i had a crush on and i was depressed and with OCD at the time (possibly more common to computer geeks and gamers than the general population), but yeah it was pretty immersive.

i was thinking the same thing. so many of the "news for nerds" articles and their replies are really out there. if youve been to any pro sports event you should have seen one of these.
its like the article about the car that was hacked up to get a better quarter mile time. the article and its comments were like "case modding for cars!", apparently nobody knew that cars were getting "modded" waaaaay before frickin' computer cases?
too much and the large bubbles that form on the channel walls effectively create a steam void that has a much higher specific heat then the fluid used for cooling... basically it is acting as an insulator preventing heat transfer into the fluid in the channel... a very bad thing [tm].

why is this chilling at all? US domination? so what? im all for it and im totally behind wolfowitz and pre-emption, its the strategically correct thing to do to preserve our way of life. the world would be one big USA and thats way better than what it is now.
Unless Microsoft doesn't get its act together (they were pretty late with 32-bit 386 support, IIRC)...
this isn't specific to this post, but for some reason there seems to be a common agreement around here that microsoft doesnt have a 64-bit OS out yet. actually they've shipped 64-bit support for years, back in the Alpha days and in windows 2000 and XP (they also have a guide here).
for developer support, you can't miss it in MSDN or all the WIN64 #defines in the header files: everything is extended for 64-bit (GetWindowLongPtr for example).
you're obviously not familiar with just how many guns there are out there, or how you will never remove the old guns from the hands of law-abiding gun owners, or how guns will always be produced somewhere without this "feature".

this is incorrect. many applications are simply written poorly; messenger loads faster than icq and media player loads faster than realplayer because icq and realplayer haven't done the work to make load time fast. by delay-loading DLLs you can speed up application load time immensely but many products don't do this.
there is no link between the operating system and word; if word loads too quickly it's because WORD has pre-loaded its modules via its little quicklaunch area it used to have, which it put into the startup folder. any application can make use of these tricks; although of course pre-loading the system like this is counterproductive in terms of using the system for other applications.
