612243 Fedora 7 to be more specific)) Microsoft can have billions in the bank and they can have a significant amount of programmers (and so can Apple, Sun and others) but they will completely fail against the "armada" of OSS developers. There is no question about that, only a fool would go to "war" against OSS. I would like to conclude that the faster wall street et.al. understands this the faster both Apple and Microsoft will become irrelevant from a fundamental OS point of view. Our internet civilization requires that the building blocks are fully open so that "infrastructure" can be resilient... humanity depends on it and we would be quite foolish to let ANY corporation to be the sole proprietor of any of it. But I digress into my personal agenda.
No not a troll... I am speaking of actual code (GNU code existed before GPLv1 so I am hopefully being a bit more thorough in my approach) used in various Microsoft offerings. Remember back "some years" ago when Microsoft were buying up a lot of smaller companies to the left and right?... How many of these companies were already using open code BUT stripping out comments and licenses at their own whim (thinking in BSD license terms but they were in fact GPL... done that by error myself... back in 1996... corrected 1997)... I would estimate that number to be quite the amount of lines and definitely large chunks of code. Microsoft would not be able to do a thorough check on all their code (remembering that just the OS it self is about 45 million lines.) It is FAR easier to strike these kind of deals don't you think? So yes I see this as a "what goes around comes around" in regards to what Microsoft was/is allegedly indirectly pushing SCO to do. They ARE covering their hinds and NO spin can make it different.
Btw it is sad to see that you got 5 mod points reply to a 1 point post. Are we not allowed to be against Microsoft in Zonk's posts? or is it that my whole approach is too poignant that the masses should not be able to fathom nor get a drift of it and that it should therefore be relegated as a troll post? btw^2 That was rhetorical.
Microsoft will soon go "open source" in a more wide way and are just making sure they pre-emptively strike these licensing deals because their code is already full of GNU and BSD code. So all this is just Microsoft covering their hind quarters.
The problem is on some installs+assorted plugins when it opens up a window with the help of javascript. Running FF2 on Fedora 7 x64 now and it does not behave like that anymore.
oh well... most if not all sites that I frequent that use javascript I tend to trust... if they have a backend exploit then they would rather take other info without bothering us web surfers.
is updating or checking out Fedora 7... Zonk is posting these feel good stories about Microsoft.
Its quite telling to see who and what gets reported on.:-D
This will surely be modded irelevant +5 or so but really at the end of the day who cares how relatively secure Microsofts latest OS is against some other Microsoft OS before it or tentatively after it? "At the end of the day" why do people still pay for an OS? (its obviously NOT for security.)
I under no circumstances like to just give hard earned bread crumbs away just like that. Do I care if people in other places starve? Yes... but can my bread crumbs really help them without impacting me? Definitely not.
If the 1-2 % of the human population that has 98% of the capital in this world dispenced and let go of their capital it would help MUCH more than us "normal" providing for both poor and rich.
I deem the article a lobyistic plant at best to sifen even more money from the ones who barely have any.
The less the IT department is noticed that it takes care of things behind the scenes the better. It should be perfectly fluid. They shall fix problems BEFORE they happen. If problems happen out of the blue there should be fast replacements/workarounds that have minimum impact on users and the entire systems.
And remember EVERY second counts!
And now for something completely different!

When using Beryl I feel dizzy because my eyes try to focus on the blurry windows when I move them around. After 5 minutes of use I have a strong feeling to puke because of that, its very uncomfortable and I am not using it because of that.
Don't get me wrong, the fluff is nice but I can't use it. Same goes with OSX's and Vistas "enhancements"... nice but in the long run its just in the way.
Just because their webserver is running IIS doesn't necessarely mean that everything else is. Interesting that they migrated over to W2k... well assuming they are hardcore FrontPage users that would explain why... and WebDAV might have been used to make it much simpler to compromise (been there got the t-shirt... will never ever use DAV again.)
As much as I want to jump on Microsoft and nail a couple more in the coffin I doubt that it is an OS issue and more an inside job.
"...that you cannot download lossless-encoded songs..."
for me 44.1 kHz 16 Bit is definitely not lossless. Granted I may be in the minority of hearing significant difference against 48 kHz 24 bit source. On the same subject I would say that mp3 or any of the same kind of psycoacustic mangling formats destroy music except on feeble computer speakers where everything sounds like crap in any case. I would say that mp3 are on par with FM radio and I know that dumping tunes from FM to cassette was VERY prevalent in the "good old days"... so what I really think is that RIAA et.al. are just doing all this for publicity and for free at that. People who really care about music will buy CD or SACD/ADVD premium versions. The thing is RIAA et.al. want P2P to BE a problem so that they can shove DRM down our throats and give us crap quality content so we have to upgrade ad nauseum much like Microsoft with Windows.
I was under the impression that all food need to be tested on something closer to us primates before it is introduced in the food chain. If that is not the case then yeah hell Monsanto should definitely get a spiky bug up their collective....
but I know that I am not a rat. Maybe if they had found this problem with... say.. pigs that is a much more close relative to us primates THEN I would definitely be a whole lot more alarmed.
Now I am not suggesting the Green Peace did wrong here BUT fear mongering isn't helping anybody.
However Monsanto and their milk products back in the day were non clean too.
My question is if this is not a fight fire with fire deal?
I wouldn't mind retrofitting my engine with this if it indeed increased fuel efficiency by 25% and put a "Greener Car" sticker on it.
25% is a lot and actually worth it.

Its just a matter of time... but this is hardly news at this point.

Human: AHA! lets combinatorialy iterate over all gene combinations and find the most efficient one with this ultra fast machinery.
God: Merde... those humans are a crafty bunch of mofos.
Devil: WTF!

They needed some help in realizing what overwhelming really means.
Was that article really written in the late 90ies or what? Very moot article in any event.
