We the consumers pays 100% of all advertising dollar. Those pamphlets from the bank/cable/telco and all other you pay either with monthly bank/cable/telco costs... They are literally pissing away our own money.
Data entry of one persons data @ say $10/h would give us 10 hours of work... and yes this is clerk entry data duty... so again I find the notion of $100/user completely unfounded and quite frankly pie in the sky lunacy with LSD sprinkled on top.
Somehow that does not seem right in any shape way or form. I know at least a handful users that have way more than a couple of accounts (pets, hiders and other stuff.)
Maybe 25 cents/user on a good day but $100?!? Completely incredulous. But then again maybe Goldman sees the US dollar tanking worse than Titanic in the near future.
"It is practically impossible to teach good programming to students that have had a prior exposure to BASIC: as potential programmers they are mentally mutilated beyond hope of regeneration." - Edsger W.Dijkstra
There might be hope for subjects that started using "gosub" without ever using "goto" but I have never seen anyone having done that.
But then again IMHO today's html/javascript is one form of modern spaghetti code too so maybe BASIC should be taught because of that.
But to me this indicates strongly that Microsoft, Apple, EMC and Oracle see their future as dire as can be. Strange bedfellows is the epitome of eroding market and money making. How long till they all croak? IMHO all of them are irrelevant and their core businesses are not needed in the amounts of yesteryear. So rather than trying to come up with something better and new and commercially successful they must use patents... much like IBM does. The companies are over the hill and they know it. Same as KODAK was back in the day when film was displaced by digital.
The problem again as always is that the patent war will further put molasses in the innovation and technological machinery of mankind and for this I flip the BIG BIRD to all of the companies in the pact.
Hyperbole time: Wouldn't "use a computer in a way that the writer does not completely understand." include ALL windows (ok ok computer) users? It would include themselves in this category because obviously they don't know what they themselves are doing... everyone is a hacker these days. IMHO Rote knowledge of a computer system regardless of OS and applications is just ROTE knowledge and has nothing to do with understanding... Apes/Cats/Dogs/Rats can all push buttons too and make stuff happen to benefit them.
I am pretty sure I used color imaging software in 87... even in 86 (DeluxPaint/ImageFX/AdPro) and I definitely saw 24 bit editing on a preproduction/very early version of Mac II in late 1985... yes that steak was VERY juicy on that highres monitor.
If the musicians trust their record companies then I would argue they are in deep sh*t already. It is far too simple to do some Hollywood accounting on the thing and say that all the proceeds went to support everything else but the musician. I for one wouldn't trust any numbers coming from any of the record companies... not even SEC filings... now maybe if they had to do per artist as if the artist is a company by them self then maybe we would get closer to reality. However it will not change so this is all moot. The interesting part is that Simmons is a very shrewd business man and that he is promulgating some party line indicated maybe that he has finally done something stupid in a business sense. For him this must be a lose lose situation, not that I care.
Exactly my thoughts... there wasn't anyone willing to take the blame or rather in this case they were most likely dead and the authorities weren't able to convincingly put the blame on someone that is dead without their defense. That's ok... pointing fingers is never a cool thing to do BUT to say that it was a computer glitch is more than a little arrogant against the people who are still alive and have been effected by the tragedy. It permeates an aura of a botched investigation and reeks of underhanded and ulterior motives where the authorities can now say that Virus/Worms/Trojans indeed can kill people and put a hefty criminal charges on infractions and their perpetrators. This happens all the time when there is nobody that can own-up... the nefarious mofo's will take any and all advantage to hoist control over the populace.

Easier and cheaper to release a PS4 with 4 times the processing power including the "security" fix ;-)
back in late 90ies... with the huge GPS "dongle" mind you.
This Mountain Dew moment brought to you by me.

who needs wikileaks when there is Microsoft Cloud.
Ok ok I will step down from my demagogy.
Just tested it with chrome 9.x... the pdf rendering is ridiculously fast.
I am "way" ahead of you. My spec is at 512 Petabytes/second, with 2.048 Zettabytes of storage.
There is nothing good that can come out of this. I repeat NOTHING good.
I see Ballmer gleefully giddy in his chair.
mmmmm.... "these creative types"
Hacking code for a living is an art and is a creative endeavor... but calling me a type... sheesh.

and a plan C, D, E, F..... Z. One can not have enough backup plans.
Thanks! you just made my day. ROFL.
Overheard at Lexmarks recent board meeting: "oh my good our company will soon need to file for Chapter 11... SUE EVERYBODY!!!"

"Who puts Windows on anything even remotely mission critical?"
ooooh! I know I know I know... waving hand frenetically HIGH in the air
"Clueless idiots!"
Backups backups backups... things tend to get lost in fires and such things so offsite is imperative.
Keep data in simple format... jpg... scanned pictures of her own handwriting
Burnt CD's with her direct voice in wav format.
Video... may be harder to keep "migratable" so keep the audio tracks separate and augument with simple jpg pictures just in case
And yeah don't forget to backup... and one more important thing BACKUP!!!
