I love how China warned/pleaded with us not to have protectionism-style economics back when our economy first fell apart. Now here they are, starting the same thing up....Guess I should have figured, everyone else will look out for themselves first....except us.
I too have a shop selling computers, and this guy pretty much nails it on the head better than any i've heard in a while. once linux can do this, it WILL be a valid competitor, and I will have another avenue of machines to sell.
Have you every actually watched O'Reilly? And if you have, have you ever actually _listened_?
If so you would find out that he's not what you state here.
the HP Lights-Out Edition II is a PCI card that I've had success installing into some desktops. it is a full length cards, so mini atx cases need not apply. can be had on ebay for less than $50
I don't believe that for a second. if GM had that patent a while back, they would have put it on their cars immediately and crushed the competition in mileage. period
i can back this up with several years of working in and now owning a computer repair store. we put UPSes with everything we can, and putting them on network equipment more or less negates the issues with having to reboot them.
(except with the netgear FVS114 router. NOTHING could save that sorry piece of crap)
This is definitely OT, but you DO realize that it was Sarah Palin that completely re-energized McCain's campaign and was partly responsible for him not losing to Obama in a complete landslide don't you?
I don't care if you don't like her, that's your right to an opinion, but don't spread FUD about her, that's just lame.
seeing as you don't advocate a real raid card, you better make sure you don't have an issue with power, as a momentary dip will cause you to lose your cache, and therefore probably lose data and or go degraded/failed.
even if you have a UPS, you better have usb/serial connectivity to enable the UPS to shutdown the machine.
ps/2 keyboards ARE hot-pluggable, provided you had one plugged in during bios detection. after that, you could switch all you want.
ps/2 mice, however, were another issue entirely
agreed. same findings here. i'd love to walk into smb and say "here's exchange for way less than exchange costs", but managing FOSS on the backend would be a nightmare. take that times 25 clients right now (and growing every month). exchange installs, and just works.
not so much active directory, but exchange itself is what makes a server take forever.
brand new 5300 series xeon, 4gb....12sec from the end of the raid post to login screen (this is the dc)
same machine with exchange loaded up, 1min.
lets not even talk about shutdown times, which is like 23525 times longer with exchange:)
Wwow, I feel sorry for your ignorance.
I run a shop where this is a major part of our business and I totally agree with parent :)

Yes, but will it make me toast?

It is nice to read a comment by someone who definitely seems to know what they are talking about. Well written!
Runaway car? Are you kidding me? There's a thing called the key, (or the start/stop button). TURN THE CAR OFF. Coast to a stop. Wreck avoided.

No, where do YOU come from?
1TB discs? Now OSes can be even BIGGER!

same thing at the shop i'm at. most of the virus infections are from this.
dream theater and rush ftw!

agreed. you're a total retard if you don't reconcile your bank statement every month. ESPECIALLY when there are ACH transfers.
that is, Nano^3
