I have been using linux as my ONLY OS in the house for over 4 years now. And i am not attempting to say that i never had problems with it, the ONLY ONLY times it locked up on and left me with only one option of reboot was 4 to 6 times if not less. And i can actually remember each and every one of these instances, most of which were caused by video drivers. NEVER EVER have i had AIM application lockup force me to reboot computer or throw me in a chain of blue screens etc etc. I broke X connection several times, caused cpu meltdowns and were still able to recover and continue running linux without rebooting, once something was so messed up that my CPU was being eaten up by something and couldnt do anything from keyboard, logged in through ssh and killed the application and voila. Ive been running Redhat 9 at work for 2 years and seen people go from win98 to 2000 to xp and had my fun with the BSOD screensaver while they toil with the beatiful Service Pack issues. I could go on for ever with examples like this.
And lastly Linux is NOT X or Gnome or AIM.
Why not raise the money and create a Free Star Trek Set, almost every trekkie out there in the world has some sort of CG model of about every piece of star trek prop. So create a "Open Source Star Trek" comunity finance it with donations, trekkies submit scripts organize some freelance trekkie actors ( wardrobe would not be an issue) that way the money goes back into the fan community. I dont think i have to give any ideas of how this would be distributed (/me bows to Bit Torrent ), and who knows maybe some TV Network would pick it up. Then when its super popular, we willrelease the STGPL ( Star Trek General Public License ) and stick it to "The Man".
They aint got no huge cancer cauzing ozone holes neither:) Or boxing cangaroos, and super poisonous snakes, altho i hear the beer is kinda the same:)
Common at least they are trying to get people used to the future, its not like led based sun tan lotion is far.
After reading dumb comment after dumb comment, i do wonder if linux has a bright future. But i can always hope that when linux will be one big standard windows distro that some bright chap will have forked a good non standardized rebel version that wont succome to all the problems that arise with Standardizing things.
Also it seems to me that microsoft has driven advancement for quite a while now with their resource demanding software. And i still see people bitching about Java not being as fast as binaries, why not skip the whole Compilation process and have dynamically compiled source that is compiled at runtime that way you take the worries for dependancies from the developers hands and put it in the hands of the compiler. As a developer i will install the necesary tools to cary out a certain functino of my software, but then i have to worry that it might not work on machines that dont have this or hardware that is less then that etc. Why the hell not just distribute the source code and have the compiler decide that on the spot ? I need this library, then go get it from its location online and run the damn application. Yes its slow but that can be a good thing.
Sweet so when my city will have 100% wireless coverage i could use my PDA to do VOIP basically for free. So in the far future we could all use those star trek chest thingies to communicate for free.
Cant wait for the spammers to call me about penis enlargement pills. Captains log, earthdate december 14 2040 microsoft has a new discount on penis enlargement pills.
So superman will finally be SUPER, wow thats a cool idea, this very much resembles the Futurama episode where Nixon's head goes on a rampage in a huge robotic body.
So basically microsoft is saying, Here take our api's make them better use your resources to make our stuff better, why its better then us just going through your sources and doing it, why waste the money ?
It seems to me that microsoft has more to gain from this.
Metallica's popularity is amaizing because they have put out so much good stuff throughout their careers which by my count ended after garage days, that now any sort of crap they come out with will make them good money. Artists are so stinkin rich nowadays they dont care anymore for the quality of their music.
I have been a red hat follower for a long time now, but this release has got to be my turning point. There is such thing as being too much like windows. I mean ya its nice and shiny but its just garbage, clicking on things doesnt do anything and its a hundred times less customizable then 7.3 . I dono what screwed it up so badly, be it red hats customized gnome or what, its just ugly. Is there a way to get rid of this bluetooth sh*t ?? i wouldnt mind it so bad if it resembled old gnome ?
So you say i cannot watch 16 days of DVDs ?? hopefully they will put that on a warning sticker when they come up with the said medium.
