I agree with most of what you said but whats with the "capitalistic malware"? Do you work at a capitalistic place of employment? Possibly with capitalistic employees!? I personally prefer socialistic malware or even facist malware.
The switching costs on Mac or Linux are tiny compared to what you save in maintenance and training costs later and gain in enhanced productivity.
For companies that don't run everything through Google/Cloud services there are very real software costs. What about backwards compatibility - applications that are more than 3 years old?
For some users, an iPad is all they need.
For some users, a calculator and a pad of paper is all they need.
Wouldn't it be easier if they said that printer ink was made out of unicorn blood? Can you shed some light on this? The Oatmeal has a great piece on printers.
I've used it exclusively for the last year or two and I've burned several ISOs with it and I haven't had a problem. I consider myself a typical user: Data dvd, data cd, and sometimes an audio cd. However I haven't done a mixed boot and data (what are you trying to do?). Making boot media from scratch and mixing is out of the norm for my use and I think many people. One of the things I really liked about Nero (years and years ago) was being able to burn an video file and convert to a DVD which was handy for tv shows my girlfriend's mom missed. One thing that has kept me away from Nero is how massive it's become but I am glad there are options.
No, they are not equal. The problem is that using GUIs as we know them today, is NOT using a computer. It is instead the same thing as fiddling with an appliance. A static thing. Good luck piping the output of a Firefox menu item to Gimp. Good luck scripting the interface. That’s the real problem. You can’t really. Everything is monolithic static applications. With the rare plug-in exception.
Macro applications for automating tasks exist for this reason. API for sending messages such as mouse events and keys are available for this very purpose.
Real work = AUTOMATING
So people who write books, use 3d software for architecture, video editing, audio processing and music creation, and graphic designers who work on computers don't do real work. Your answer is highly subjective. I guess only admins and janitors do "real work"?
It’s sad that KDE and Gnome raped the Unix philosophy... with a 30 inch pipe... sideways......instead of doing it the proper way, and making everything a small module that does one thing, and does it right.
Only KDE and Gnome eh? You can use a terminal in all of these. It's sad that you're such an elitist.
Rapid decline? Big companies aren't using desktop computers for their cube farms? Fortune 500 companies are replacing everyones computer with a laptop? Hardly. These are the same companies who skip upgrade cycles and refrain from using the latest and greatest software simply because of cost (and because what they have gets the job done).
I guess everyone at Apple uses an ipod to do their work and Microsoft uses zunes! I'm sure cube dwellers who use computers as workstations at companies across the globe are only gamers.
Nor can you ignore that a software studio that pays a staff of 60 people at competitive wages, licenses technology (codecs, physics engines, game engines etc.), paying for artists and script writers are facts.
Since we're naming the prices that we would be comfortable paying, I think I would be happy buying a Lamborghini for not a penny more than $1400. The Pirate Bay wanted to fill this gap with a single monthly fee for access to the shared content but the industry didn't bite. I mean if you are Adobe and sell software such as CS4 receiving a fraction of a users $14/month sounds like a fantastic deal compared to retail prices.
Tracking Whites by the way they type Tracking Blacks by the way they type
This seems like a slippery slope. I'm getting tired of all this "pedo" tracking. Our software has determined you type like a pedo, not a rapist. What next? How about monitoring your children? Know what they do, where they go, who their friends are.
Didn't I write the word "IF" as a qualifier in the 5th sentence.
Why, yes.... yes you did.

So one can disregard it? See above. You have yet to answer my question about HOW. Do you understand what I am asking? HOW would YOU identify a bot that you don't know is a bot or an actual visitor. Lets assume that you are just looking at logs. What are your thoughts on that?
All of this is theoretical. I don't host copyrighted material on any of my sites, so I don't really care about that. I am concerned about additional usage on my sites by yet another bot where I will never see any benefit.
An academic exercise, great. I didn't think you were hosting anything of that nature. Why, no.... no I didn't suggest that.
And my chosen name on/. was taken from a dictionary definition of the word vulgar [thefreedictionary.com]. My response to you was not vulgar.....although, it was impudent. I attempt at all times to remain dissimilar to the name.
A clever administrator might even build a script to deliver alternate content to the bot/agency so as to not appear suspiciously invisible.
Clever but what happens when the bot doesn't identify it self as "CopyrightBOT 123". Google bots don't always identify as Googlebot to prevent exactly this. I'm sure this behavior isn't unique to Google.
Oh, we're talking about obscure laws? Orange County is not unique in this respect. Since you're singling out Irvine it's worth noting the average house hold income and crime rates. Take a look at the people and companies that call it home.
Surprisingly no. The original Gameboys were built extremely well so we were very curious when someone wanted to RMA one since it takes a lot to destroy one (ie, not a typical "oops i dropped it!"). There was a walkway bridge that connected two of the buildings on the upper floors at the Redmond Washington facility and we've dropped Gameboys on to the parking lot and besides a little impact scratch and the batteries flying out the screen was fine.
Around the height of Pokemon we also had legions of calls about glitches or the battery in the cartridge failing (thus losing the rare Pokemon). Nothing beats Robotron in the breakroom though.
I worked at Nintendo around the time of the N64 and up until the Gamecube and a lot of the calls we received on the support line regarding Gameboys that had water damage were the result of being dropped in the toilet. Take the batteries out and let the unit dry (without powering it on while its wet) and the majority of the time they were okay.
The term is pretty vague but Google is used by millions of people every day. What is it called when it makes the lives of millions better - especially your own countrymen?

The first rule about fight club...
Once game developers move full time to Mac
Since OSX runs all the latest and greatest hardware and has a huge install base of users that love buying the latest games?

If the payload happened to contain a Google search request, or an HTTP request to a site that sues Google Analytics
I had no idea HTTP requests could sue! Think of the possibilities!
*I'm sure you probably ment uses

Another worthy Windows mention is InfraRecorder and it's opensource to boot.
I don't have any affiliation with this project.

Nit pick "Open your mind, Quade!". "Free your mind" is The Matrix.
See you at the party Richter!
Lets replace this headline with something else:

Perhaps pompus would be more fitting.
True to your name :P How would one obtain and identify the IP blocks if the bots don't identify themselves?

I say this as someone who doesn't work in the industry - what a cool design. Completely back asswards in some respects but it looks cool.
That you Heath?
