Nor, however, to I pay any attention to ads on the sides of buses, the roofs of taxicabs, or on the sides of buildings here in New York City
You're telling us you walk around blindfolded then? You can't escape these ads. You see them, read them, and maybe mentally tell yourself "I will not buy a foobar, I will not buy a foobar".
But when you are hungry and maybe looking for something new to try, you'll RECOGNIZE that foobar amonst the dozens of other choices(from somewhere in the back of your mind) and BINGO they got you.
Exactly as web-based ads should be considered. Branding...
A few years ago, some paranoid security officer conviced senior management to encrypt all the computer hard drives. The software was awful. They started with senior managers and were working down to the peons.
Well, after 2 or 3 of them lost everything on their hard disks (completely unrecoverable due to the encryption) the idea was quickly squashed.
Either it took 12 months for them to get sentenced or there was more to this case than just the fraud
This is quite possible becuse the justice system moves INCREDIBLY slow. If you've ever seen it in action (and not tv version) you'd understand. Cases can drag on for 2-3 years.
$19 is nothing. Before we switched to Novell GroupWise, we had a mix of Digital MailWorks and GroupWise.
You think MS invented the single solution, think again. Digial MailWorks only ran on Digital PathWorks which only ran on a Digital VAX that only ran Digital VMS. A client license was around $200 CDN for a PC and $350 for a Mac PER SEAT with a volume discount.
When a standardization on a mail system came MailWorks almost won (being pushed by Digital's insider mouthpeices) but somewhow clearer heads prevailed.
It has over 800 games. At your $1 per cartridge ebay price you are still getting a great deal for $200. Not to mention the ease of acessibility/storage and coolness factor.
Sure it does, all these 'other' countries are small which makes it econmonical to build the GSM network. Their combined land total might be greater than the US but the GSM network was built piecemeal.
How often does a PC title sell more then 1 million units? Not very often - Just the half dozen blockbuters or Deer Hunter/Millionare of the year.
An installed base of 70 million PlayStations or 100 million Gameboys sell a lot of product. Piracy is harder on consoles and I'm sure tends to make people buy the games.
My PS/2 Model 80 was a 25 MHz DEMON!!! It had 2 340 MB hard drives broken up into 6 partitions. It cost $25,000 Cdn - so the price on these newer ones has came down as expected.
If in 25 years Mir is mentioned along with a footnote to Taco Bell... then we (as Americans) have done a great evil.
It's already going to happen. Haven't you seen Demolition Man?
Yeah, I had a similar thing on a LAN I was running until this one came up:
"What's up Mr. Peterson?" "My nipples, it's freezing out there!"
Didn't go over too well with some of the 'easily offended' crowd.

These drastic measures never work.

Not being a US citizen bars about 90% of slashdot's ads from me so they are now on my 'enemies list'
www.adsoff.com has become a saviour to me these last couple of months. Sites are going crazy with popup windows and annoying ads. Well worth it.
tentacle monster that would pull you undernetath itself and then slide out a smoking, charred corpse
Oh god yes, that had me awake for several days. I saw the episode a couple of years ago and although you could see the 'dolly' it still 0wned me.
reminds me of a line from Jerky Boys skit
(schmuck) "Sue Me!?"
(Jerky Boy) "Sue Everyone!"
5 disc DVD/VCD/CD player with CDR compatibility. I've even made my own VCDs on CDR media to great success.

Hotmail has several anti-spam measures in place now. I've gone from 75-100 spam a week to about 5 a week.
But what Hotmail has that I haven't seen before is an option to only accept messages if the sender's address is in your address book.
Turn this on and no spam. If you are expecting an email from an address not in your book, just switch your settings for a few days.

psst. It was a joke. Should have probably qualified it I guess...
Are you storing your movies in .bmp format?
I have 2001 on DVD (R1). It was the 2nd DVD I bought and currently is the most disappointing one in my collection.
The audio is decent but the video was a real let down.
Conan the Barbarian (my first buy) had the worst video/audio but the new Collectors Edition that came out is awsome.

Here's another really neat device created by the Evil Empire. Definately on Christmas list.
GameVoice
Just imagine if MS didn't sell an operating system.
Do you think Compaq will be next with .COM?
I haven't seen the terms "The Robot" and "The Running Man" that close together since watching the Charlie's Angels movie last weekend...
Don't forget the never ending spam of degress you can get.
I don't know when it will be available in the US.
January is what I've read.
