Not really. Nowhere in TFA does it mention these records being available to the general public, let alone free to download over the net. Just because they are digitizing the archives for some safety/redundancy does NOT mean that the church is suddenly backtracking and opening the archives up to everyone.

http://news.slashdot.org/story/10/04/27/2113224/Arizona-Papers-Please-Law-May-Hit-Tech-Workers So it's bad to make illegal immigration a real crime, but we need to stop those crazy bastards from offering toys with kids meals ? The whole "Think of the kids" excuse is REALLY getting tired. Fun fact: It's almost always the parents buying the things for the kids. If adults disagree with the practice, don't buy the kids meals for your kids. Oh, but it'll be so much nicer not to have little Jimmy complain about not getting his meal/toy ? Start being a parent.

The government has NO REASON to be involved in these kinds of things.

I know quite a few people who develop for the iPhone. Although every one of them will admit to the pain caused by app store policies, it's still the only real game in town. It's a simple platform to program on, and much like this app, you don't really need much functionality to sell a ton of copies. It's much easier to throw together 10 half-assed apps hoping just ONE will be a decent seller and pay your bills vs. spending time to put together a good app for the Android platform, where even if it does become a "good seller", your still barely covering your overhead.

  7. Students... on Paper Manufacturer Launches "Print More" Campaign · · Score: 1

Although there's a lot more technology in the classroom today, things like essays are still printed out, for the most part. In my college English classes, even if you emailed the professor your paper (because you missed class or something), he still wanted a hardcopy the next class. In fact, every normal, face to face class I've had so far (in ~ 2.5 years in college) has required hardcopies of all papers/slideshows/etc.

The only time I don't have to print things out for school is for my online classes (for obvious reasons). It really is nicer for us students to not worry about getting to class on time and making sure we have a hardcopy of our papers, but tbh the prof's always prefer the real thing. I'm sure this kind of printing is a small fraction of a fraction of overall paper sales, but college papers are responsible for at least 90% of my printing.

I can honestly say that I don't think the internet produces the same kind of compulsion, at least for me. I've been sober for a while now, and really can "feel" when that compulsion is trying to kick in. Obsession sucks. I can gamble a bit without feeling any obsession either, so it's definitely a person to person deal.

The kind of addiction I deal with on a daily basis (when new people come around) is generally the kind that has you stealing from your family, writing bad checks and walking the streets... Do these "internet addicts" really do this kind of stuff to subsidize their habit ? Not that it's necessary to be an addict, but do they really have the hallmarks of addiction ? There's a difference between doing something a bit too much and REALLY being an addict.

This "For the kids" excuse is really getting old. It's one of those things that politicians can get away with time after time because no one wants to attack that position and look like they are "anti-kid" to the less-than-informed general public.

I'm personally glad that Google is "holding onto it" like they are. The sooner we get away from a carrier-controlled phone market the better. Phone prices might go up a little, but we subsidize their purchase through our bills anyway. Good for Google.

I wish that movies/music/software "sharing" was separated from movie/music/software counterfeiting and fake medicine and goods of course, but either way the American public needs to be protected from those threats.

Mr. Bush and his aides concluded that the Russians were right. Partly as a result, the idea “really hadn’t gone anywhere in the Bush administration,” Defense Secretary Robert M.
