But anyway, on topic, how much of this was in its WordPerfect division? I really like WordPerfect, and if over 200 jobs are being cut from the division, I don't think it's doing too well.:(
Hm...sorry to be ignorant, but what exactly does 109-bit eliptic encryption mean? Does that mean there are 2^109 possibilities, or what? And if it does mean that, how long exactly would it take for a computer to try a possibility? One per second? Sorry if I'm completely off with my estimations.
And regarding the fact that it took four years to crack: even if it took three days to crack, couldn't somebody just change around the key every couple of days? That seems like a much more effective way of guarding data. Anything that can still be fresh in four years can easily have the key changed!
Regarding the IMAX movie, does anybody know what scenes exactly were cut, or was it just little things here and there?
Regarding the ICQ/AIM "merger," who the hell cares? Honestly, I don't know one perosn that I've met in real life that uses ICQ. And in this day and age, who cares what platform you're using? Programs like Trillian can use them all at once, and you'd never know you were connecting to completely different servers!
And when you think about it, it all boils down to the users. What's the difference between AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Y!? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just the subscribers. I know, I have AOL/TW as much as the next, but I don't have any qualms with using their servers and eating their bandwidth while chatting on Trillian without ads!
ICANN needs to go. What were they thinking?.su?.biz? Whaaaat? I don't know what they were smoking when they thought up.su. I wonder if we can get them to revive Babylon and get a.bn top level domain? Or Assyrian,.as? Eh?
When I worked for Penn, I found God, and he had the most awesome computer setup of all time. Three Solaris (I think, I'm not sure) servers linked to create a beowulf, four 19" LCDS (each with its own desktop: one for a giant calculator, one for e-mail/web browsing, one for coding, one for output), a keyboard, a keyboard-like thing with lots of mathematical buttons, and a weird mouse with over 16 buttons. He was a professor in the econ. department. Most people called him Dr. Weisenberg, I just called him God.
I can't go on, I'm tearing. I hope that's become an inspiration to all.
Sorry for being offtopic...but this is the only page on Slashdot where my right mouse button and scroll wheel don't seem to want to work. Anybody else having this problem?

If a large-enough site was getting DDoS'd (Yahoo!, Microsoft, universities, etc.), wouldn't there be someone on call 24/7 who could in a matter of minutes sort out what the similarities in the DDoS are and then manually get a RegEx to sort them all out?
I don't have much knowledge of the subject, but that seems like an easy want to deal with it.
I noticed this was under "The Almighty Buck." However The Register (theregister.co.uk, at least) caters to Europeans and in that list no banks that catered to Americans were listed. Change that to "The Almight Buck/Euro/Pound/etc."
Hehehe, yeah. I noticed that Slashdot gave me a rather cryptic one, this week. For those who are wondering...it's slashdot[at]ssmith619[dot]cjb[dot]net. I guess the two @s and the one dot is rather complicated.
I'm half-Romanian. Never been there, and don't speak the language (well, except for some small workds), but I just noticed the name Vlad...reminded me of Dracula. Vlad Tepes...or something like that. What country do you currently live in?
WHOA! I know you!
FIRST POST!
Probably not by now...

Yeah, I'm using Opera, and the four-point font is an issue, too.
...on Windows ME. I'm sorry.
Hm...what if there was no previous moderation? This intrigues me, I must ponder...
What I want to know, is what exactly does "underrated" mean, and why is it +1? I'm not complainin' or anything...just wonderin'...
*I hate AOL/TW...

Well I think it's cool. Think of the security uses. A fingerprint verifier with no precious space being taken up.
Duuuuude...that's deep.
I hate him as much as the next, but I don't think we can blame him for this one. ;-)

I think you can submit those to Slashdot and they'll take them down...I just don't know who I'd tell.

Pt...the banner ad on Slashdot told me that days before this story broke on Slashdot. ;-)
I sense much hatred in you my child... Argh, I have to learn to type slower, this 20 second rule is getting annoying!

Stealing from an open source project to buy a shitty camera is almost as despicable as stealing from the homeless guy.
However Slashdot linked to the English version.

Hm...just wondering...are you Romanian?
I could be wrong, but I think it was a joke.
