Microsoft: Here Johney, we noticed you don't have windows. So, our gift to you: 50 brand new copies of XP Professional! At $200 a copy, that equals $1000!
Johney: Oh. What a rip off. Stupid Microsoft...
IRS: Johney, our records show that you recieved a prize totaling $1000. You owe us $80 now.
Back when I used AIM (I'm on Adium now), I used to get these things all the time. They were porn pop ups, and I could see the users would have high warning levels. All I could do was just warn them and block them, and hope they would stop. They didn't. When I'm back on AIM, they keep coming. Ugh, what a pain.
I haven't signed up with anything via my sn, or put my sn on the web other than a few message boards.
You are completely correct. They're very helpful to Trillian in particular, informing them themselves whenever there's a change in protocol and whatnot.
I know I shouldn't feed the trolls, but I'm bored and I have karma to burn.
1. So you have a 1400 MHz machine huh? Wow. Did you underclock your 1420? Or did you build a new mac yourself with a custom G4? Strike one.
2. All current powermacs use 7200 rpm Ultra ATA hard drives, meaning about 100 MB/s. So your 20 megs shouldn't take 20 minutes, it should take 1/20 of a second. Strike 2.
3. This troll can be seen in Linux articles, BSD articles, and other mac articles (with simpletext instead of TextEdit) Strike 3.
You're out.

I also think cars should warn you twice before you drive faster than the speed limit and then just shut off... forever. This will cause there to be fewer cars on the road, less cars means less pollution and fewer traffic jams
Okay, say a manufacurer makes a car that does that. BOOM. Bankruptcy. Okay, what if it becomes a law? BOOM. Prices of used cars skyrocket. Okay, so make it illegal for cars on the road not to do this. BOOM. No one does it.
Basically, it's safer to let people go against the law than it is to force them to follow it.
Actually, my English book (circa 1997) contains an essay written by Bill Gates, about just this. He talks about how asynchronous exchange of information is better and more convenient than synchronous exchange. He talks about how the telephone has made us be able to talk when we're not in the same room. The E-mail allows us to talk when we're not in the same room, or at the same time. The main point of the essay was about Video on Demand, and how it would revolutionize the way we watch movies.
Exactly. I expect that when I enter in [9], [+], [3], [=] on my calculator it will respond with "12", not "ERROR". I expect if I do the same thing on the calculator.app it will do the same thing, agains sans-crash. However, if I'm trying to download a huge file while opening and closing lots of windows, programming some web pages, uploading them to the web, listening to some tunes, talk to 80 different people on AIM, and enjoying a flash animation at the same time, the computer might crash. After all, those are two very different things.
Um, that's nice. And a LOT of work. I don't know anyone who would do that much to just play with an X-Box controller with OS X.
And besides, what for? Just about every game on OS X is better with a mouse/keyboard combo anyway! Warcraft III, SoF II, JK II, The Sims, etc. Personally, I can't even think of one game that would be enhanced with the X-Box controller. Seems to me like a case of "cuz it's there".
If I was left handed, here's what I would have to do to start working on a powermac.
1. Plug power into the tower.
2. Plug power into the monitor.
3. Plug the monitor into the tower.
4. Plug the keyboard into the tower.
5. Plug the mouse into the left USB hub on the keyboard.
6. Turn on the computer and answer the startup questions.
Then I'm up and running. Now for a PC running XP
1. Plug power into the tower.
2. Plug power into the monitor.
3. Plug the monitor into the tower.
4. Plug the keyboard into the tower.
5. Plug the mouse into the tower.
6. Turn on the computer and answer the startup questions.
7. Fumble through XP with the mouse acting oddly.
8. Read the documentation to find the preferences for that.
9. Change it.
10. Go out and buy a symmetrical mouse.
11. Install drivers.
Almost doubling the steps. It takes a lot less time the way apple does it.
Actually, Apple ships with a one button mouse so that it helps get the user set up as quickly as possible, no matter if they are left handed or right handed. It also explains why there are two USB hubs on the keyboard, why the pro mouse is symetrical, and why Apple has support for two button mice.
I remember once I got a phone call from one of my ex girlfriends. She was crying hysterically and babbling about perverts and child porn and the such. After I got her to calm down, she explained to me what happened. It seems she was a bit insecure about her developing breasts. So for the last couple months, she had been taking digital pictures of herself without a shirt on, from many different angles. She had named them "breasts_feb.jpg", "breastsfeb.jpg" and etc. A bit later she had downloaded kazaa, and had accidently set her whole C drive to be the shared folder. It took her about 2 months after she downloaded kazaa to realize this. Horrified, she looked at her upload list, and saw her pictures being uploaded many times. She gave me the kazaa names of the people who had her pictures, and I messeged them for her (she had uninstalled kazaa by then). 2 of the guys were very cooperative and apologetic after I explained what happened. And, like the AC above me said, most of them had no clue they had underage porn.
It's not just one person. And most of them are not sickos.
The fact that it's a disney movie?
All of them. It might be because my NES cartridges won't fit inside the PS2 slot tray. I'm not sure...
troll? Lighten up people, it's a joke. It's a creative pro expo. Procreate. ::sigh::
The perfect way to procreate without the threat of virii.
That was a typo X_X seriously.
Johney: Yay! So Microsoft, where's my money?

Since the linked site is slashdotted, here's a site with pictures I found from 2 seconds of googling.

Maybe instead of first posting, you could have RTFA to find out.
Sheesh. Who modded this one up?

...which chip was it? Centrino, P4 or Xeon?

You just posted a comment that less than 5% of computer users will read. What's the point?
You obviously don't use XP. There are system updates every week, and a good chunk of them include security updates.
There's nothing like seeing "2 minutes remaining" turning into "20 minutes remaining" that brings a smile to my face.
