The point here that everyone seems to be missing (including the US Gov) is that terrorists fall into 3 basic categories:
The Sheep: These are those who are lead around by the noses and don't know any better. An example of this would be people that actually believe the 71 virgins crap (which was created by the man who institutionalized the concept of the Assassin) and the extremist "schools" that teach hate to children. The Sheep tend to be illiterate.
The Desparate: These are those who have lost all, real or imagined, and have nothing to lose. They are ideal for recruitment as suicide bombers.
The Manipulative: These are those who take #1 and #2 and manipulate them for their own power. Osama is a good example. He and his lieutenants manipulate the passages of the Koran to suit their needs and objectives, tricking the Sheep and the Desperate to carry out attacks.
Violence will only solve #3. It will not solve #1 or #2. Only education and active peace will fix that.
I don't believe anyone was griping about tax cuts. It was cutting taxes and increasing spending that people have problems with.
As far as I know, that's a direct violation of the Balanced Budget Amendment. Even Republicans like Sen. John McCain have major problems with the Bush Administration's spending spree.
They didn't "crack" into anything. The stupid sysadmin forgot to password protect a shared folder on a network which both parties have access to. And it stayed like that for 2+ years, until now.
Funny.. I didn't see anywhere that the flaw was fixed.
Funny about the timing of this.. I was just thinking of something like it. Picture this:
Use the ISS as a kind of "space dock". You can then send up supplies/materials via a remote platform, similar to the Russian Soyuz capsule does now. By stockpiling goods (fuel, parts, etc), you can then use the ISS as a launching point for anything. Tugs can move satellites from the ISS to any orbit you need and do repair missions, spacecraft can move freely from Earth orbit to a lunar base without the need for streamlining or heat shields. The whole trip could probably be done on reaction thrusters, reducing the huge fuel costs. Most of a missions cost goes into getting out of earth's gravity well.. something like $10,000 per pound on the shuttle.
Until we have some sort of space presence like this, the costs of earth-based launches are going to make space travel cost prohibitive.
I know im not tired of it. I find it increasingly fascinating the machinations SCO will go thru very time. Commenting on things that need no comment. Answering questions no one asked, making up evidence that doesn't exist.
I, for one, am tired of it. SCO should either show up in court or shut the hell up. Its criminal that they can keep this BS hanging over everyone's heads (not that people are really worried about them, but still). Its kinda like Michael Jackson coming out and doing something stupid every once in a while to keep himself in the news. Enough already.
Its kind of like watching the corporate version of that NYC subway shooter from years ago who defended himself. One of the many things he did was to ask the witnesses to ID the person that had shot them and they all pointed to him. among other amusing bits.
It was Long Island Railroad. Colin something or other. I know.. I had just missed that train. Would have even been in that car.
A few weeks pass and the bill from the doctor's office comes showing what the insurance company paid, etc, and that I owed $5. No biggy, pretty typical. I did see that she charged my insurance company $103 for an "EKG Consultation Fee". Call me insane but there is absolutely no way she had the right to charge $103 for a 2 minute deal.
I went in the next time and not so calmly explained to her that she will not do that again without a) telling me what she is going to later charge, b) lying about what she was really doing, and c) being a cheat.
We wonder why insurance costs so much... It's because of hidden fees and bullshit that the medical industry decides to make a quick buck on.
Unfortunately, its a cycle.
The patients have many friviolent (and no-so-friviolent) malpractice suits. The doctor's insurance rates go up. The doctor's rates go up to cover the increased malpractice insurance. The medical insurance companies don't wish to pay anything, so they only pay 80% of the actual bill. The doctors toss in add-ons so that the 80% covers what they want/need to get paid. The insurance companies raise the co-pay. Go back to the beginning.
Its a no-win situtation.
If you go into the Appendix of Return of the King, the listings for Gandalf and Olorin cross-reference each other.
I have to leave now for my reserved spot in the "Please, Please, Please Get A Life Foundation".
It will be interesting to see if RIAA's profits come back up. Since they claim that the "pirates" are the cause of their profit decline (of course it must be.. it couldn't be expensive cds in recession or the crap music they're offering), by extension, if people are deleting music, ipsofacto, RIAA's profits must be going up.
And if RIAA's profits don't go up, who are they going to blame next time?
More likely the small problems will be swept under the rug and the first clue the general public has about the problem is when a presidential election is hacked. And there won't be a backup.
It almost makes one wonder if it would be worth destroying a minor election results to show that it can be done before something REALLY important was on the line.
I was amazed that the democrats rolled over and died during the California election. I was sure that they would have shown up in court to question the validity of the electronic election results.. especially considering all the information out there about how bad the Diebold system was.
Getting back on topic, the article is a joke. Putting stuff in space is ridiculously expensive..
Oh my yes. Which makes it a tempting target.
Targeting stuff in space is ridiculously hard.
Actually, its ridiculously easy. Its an object on a fixed path, with a fixed velocity and limited maneuvering ability. All you need is radar and a calculator to do the math. Once you are close, a proximity blast will take the target out. You don't even have to hit it directly.
Thus, a war could potentially start with something out there in the vacuum, but would quickly be pulled down into the vauums in the heads of the leaders on earth.
Very true, except at that point, our eyes and ears are debris in the ocean and we loose our ability to see the enemy before they see us. Since that's what keeps our military a cut above the rest (information is everything in warfare), we would be on an even keel with the other millitaries out there. Not a good way to fight a war.
There is no need to preach pacifism; preach the common sense that war is too expensive.
Now you are expecting the heads of state to have common sense? C'mon. Let's be realistic here.
This was brought forward years ago. There were rumors that the Yugoslavians were able to track the stealth planes by the interrupted cell phone tower signals.. basically looking for the moving black holes in their phone systems where the planes blocked the signals.
Rescuers also use cellphone and beeper signals to try and find victims at Ground Zero.
Yes but do you have proof about your discs getting stolen in the mail? Probably not. Your mail getting stolen from your building, well, that's a different story. First off, tampering and stealing mail is punishable by law.
Tell me about it. The Postal Police are nastier than the FBI. I belong to a group whose Treasurer fliched thousands of dollars. When it came out in the open, it turned out he had stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from various clients and fled the country to Venezuela.
The police couldn't get him (out of state), the FBI couldn't get him (no extradition with Venezuela), but the Postal Police got him. Apparently mail fraud doesn't need an extradition treaty. He's currently serving time in a federal prision in Upstate New York.
Choices are a splash-down capsule, a"half-cone lifting body" (sounds bumpy), and two aircraft landing types . . . and what's that in the upper left corner. Could it be? The Farscape 1 module?"
Nope.. its the 6-million dollar man's space craft.
We should all go vote republican because they pose the biggest threat to our worst enemy? That's like saying that Apple is Microsoft's largest competitor on today's desktop market, so all those who are anti-MS should go buy a mac. "No. Don't use Linux; BSD; Hurd. That will only weaken the one system left that can help STOP this madness!".
Did I miss a meeting? Since when is America our biggest enemy? Oh.. right.. since Ashcroft was put in charge.
Youir post is so full of right-wing talk-show myths that it's hard to know where to begin.
The woman who sued over spilled coffee was severely burned and required skin grafts - and the McDonald's had been warned several times of this problem.
McDonald's had been warned several times about the coffee being hot and the woman STILL put the coffee in her crotch?
When will people start taking responsibility for the stupidity their actions? ANY coffee is going to give you at least 1st degree burns if you spill it on yourself.
Anyone can FILE a lawsuit. When people file frivolous suits they cases are thrown out of court and their lawyers are fined.
Yes.. anyone can FILE a lawsuit, which is part of the problem. They should go through some sort of triage prior to filing so that our courts aren't overloaded with these stupid lawsuits (for example, the inmate suing because the prison only had chunky peanut butter, not the smooth). And the lawyers don't get fined.. otherwise ambulance chasers would be out of business!.

Supreme Court ruled that you can't execute the Mentally Handicapped.

They updated the classic 1984 commercial for it's 20th anniversary. The girl is now wearing iPod...
This is George Lucas' doing, isn't it?
Ridley Scott. The guy that did "Alien" & "Blade Runner".
Tell that to Ron Howard.
Jews in Space
That was "Spaceballs". Remember the "Druish Princess", "The Schwartz"?
So I guess this one doesn't count.
Microsoft's Longhorn!
Umm you must use a different numbering system that I do. By my count, he hasn't **won** anything yet.
Something similar to this happened in a School Board election down in virginia. Apparently the system subtracted on for every 100 votes.
I guess this gives a whole new meaning to "Unhappy Mac Face".

For all of you Bush-bashers out there, please remember that Jimmy Carter was a self-described, nu-cu-lar engineer.
Ask you parents who Jimmy Carter was before he did Habitat for Humanity
I thought he was a peanut farmer..
