How you "slip" social commentary into a film that alreay contained it in the source material?
Spielberg specifically said War Of The Worlds had nothing to do with 9/11 nor did any of those events inspire his directoral vision - he's been wanting to make it ever since Close Encounters.
In the PC realm - a lot of people jump to the conclusion that their "private information" was stolen from their PC or through a virus if they have a weird transaction or if their credit card doesn't work one day.
In the Apple space - websites will post isolated incidents of problems - then suddenly it becomes a public outrage just because 10 other people have the same problem.
Most people who are diagnosed with HPV do not have the herpes like warts that you speak of (at least from what I've read).
And yes it is a virus, but it's also related to cancer - some doctors consider ALL cancer to be viral.
A good percentage of the population is predisposed to cancer through genetic background.
The point of my gripe is - it has not been proven (and if you thoroughly search you'd see) that this is not a common genetic predisposition that many sexually active people have ALREADY!
There are different forms of HPV (as some posts have pointed out) High Risk, Low Risk, and Carrier. Carriers are often told they have it and therefore perscribed more tests (that are unnecessary) or topical creams or treatments (that may also be unnecessary).
All because doctors are publishing more about it on the internet.
Now that doctors have the internet to publish their "findings" (while still being under the influence of lobby by drug companies) - they too are over perscribing or over diagnosing - especially when it comes to rather common things.
One example is HPV - which is a sexually transmitted disease. 90% of the population has symptoms. Having similar symptoms is NOT actually having a disease.
HPV is actually just a predisposition to cervical cancer or prostate cancer and it hasn't been proven that it is actually an STD.
A hypochondriac friend of mine went to get a annual pap smear and doctor check up and told her she had HPV - after doing research - I was able to see how and why doctors over-perscribe this ( hint: money / hint 2: research grants )
I would bet if you go to the doctor and get a thorough check up, YOU will be diagnosed as having HPV - try it out!
"I think my letter was justified, except perhaps for the implications that DVForge is a good company."
Either way, you did exactly what DVForge plotted with your letter.
Did DLO take advantage of the system? Probably. Do you try to take advantage of any sytem you participate in to maximize profits? Probably. Most likely you do it every April at tax time! You're just hypocritical.
It seems Jack Campbell has managed to fill this thread at the top with plants from different people crying,
I'll never buy another DLO product again
Truth is.. whether this is a broadbased patent or not - it does not make DLO an evil company. Shame on anyone who would say that if they had an invention that they would not protect their intellectual property. ESPECIALLY in this case.
DVForge, could end up being a nightmare for DLO, just as Jack has been to Griffin. There are also SERIOUS security issues here. Jack regularly stalks the Griffin property (his biz is nearby) and he regularly goes to manufacturing sources of competitors and sources identical or similar products with a few asthetic modifactions and MacMice/DVForge stickers placed on them.
Shame on the slashdot mods for not modding down the most recent trolls into -5 troll oblivion!
Your comments were exactly what Jack Campbell intends with this story being published and promoted on slashdot.
He wants isolated incidents like yours posted so he can seemingly discredit the product he is trying to steal.
In my personal use of the Transpod I have had an amazing experience, it is perfect for my car and is very sturdy in it's construction - something I would hesitste to vouch for with any MacMice product. (Although admittedly, I have had zero to few problems with any (read as all) the MacMice products I have tested.)
It's not the first time Jack has tried this too... dig around on the internet to find out that he claims "Griffin was in talks to buy him out or vice versa"
Paul Griffin gave my website personal word that his company is *NOT* for sale and there were no such talks between him and Jack.
The product DVForge is selling was sourced from the SAME factory as the Belkin product (it's NOT original) and from what I know - Belkin was also sent a cease and decist letter.
Interesting that you say that - Jack actually MAKES ZERO of his products... this is why Belkin was also sued - the product DVForge was going to release was 90% the same as a Belkin product that was about to come to market as well.
DVForge just had this sourced from the same factory.
I have been unbiasly advocating against this guy for 3 years now. His scams, lies, and illegal activity is corroding the entire 3rd party Apple peripheral industry. He is costing companies such as Griffin and DLO nightmarish litigation and security concerns.
He breaks dozens of Apple trademark naming rules.
I applaud DLO's actions - they are the first of MANY that are about to really sock it to him from the buzz I have been collecting on my BLOG.
The ONLY reason no one (including Apple) has taken action so far - he has been relatively insignificant and is so deep in debt that if sued - would be a waste of effort.
It's pretty commonly accepted that worm holes exist in space and pretty commonly accepted that there is potential to create worm holes.
So this statement:
Einstein rules, and FTL space travel has about zero chance of ever existing.
is invalid.... never say never.
I believe SciFi is useful to the intelligent brain to keep it occupied - if there wasn't science fiction IMO there would be a lot less science fact - due to the inability to think outside the confines of laws that are disproven almost daily!
It was a record with 36,000 entries - it's not being reported as 36,000 separate kids or separate instances.
Many of the instances are repeats and are recorded as "recurring thoughts"
Some journalists have just been reporting sensationally - apparently the parent post caught one such report.
Either way - I don't care if it's 36 or 100x times that - it's maddening that this guy wasn't stopped at arrest #3.
On topic - it's maddening that Yahoo has done little to nothing to clean up their act. As the parent pointed out - if the "36,000 kid molestation accusation" brought more attention to their harboring and welcome perversity - I'm glad for it!
The thing about phone conversations is that - they are for the most part unadvertised or underground.
You're right it goes around, but the general child doesn't just out of the blue get a call from a pedophile - while the average child 7 and older DOES surf the web and CAN stumble on the type of garbage that yahoo has become a haven for - quite easily!
While it can't be considered owning a stake - many companies (such as Apple) received government grants (read as subsidy) as startups.
They also ALL receive tax credits - which is in all fairness - investment. If a company were not to pay taxes properly or piss off a government official - trust me - you'd see who owned who!
As a side note, the excerpt '..or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press..' clearly states we do have the right of free speech as an individual.. The directive that congress is not supposed to abridge it, means we do have it..,/i>
"...to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
The 2nd ammendment is about gun rights - what does it have to do with this conversation?
Yes, i realize its a commercial company and we have no real free speech rights there.
This is a consistently debated topic on Slashdot, but one worth repeating over and over:
Do you have free speech rights anywhere?
The 1st ammendment (concerning free speech) is:
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
This ammendment most precisely says - when saying things about the government or protesting the government you can say what you want - it doesn't say anything about the press or any entity having the right to say whatever they want - whenever they want.
Not sure what your "Americans for 2nd Ammendment" wording is about at all...
I will point my finger towards THIS GUY and THIS GUY - because - they seem to be egging people on.
... it's another to cause the paranoid population to be cautious!
It's great to be aware
I hate the food at Atlanta Bread, but I eat there regularly anyway because of the free WiFi
I try to go to Panera Bread (free WiFi) if I can. Much better + they have Jones Soda - Green apple Soda yummmmmmm
Don't Cisco routers run on the PowerPC and basically have a similar Network controller chipset as Apple desktops and xserves?
... or is this truly more software related than hardware related as "cisco routers" implies?
I thought I read that Cisco is the largest customer for PowerPCs.
Why wouldn't this vulnerability also be inherent to Macs
Yahoo would do something about the ENTIRE mac auction section being 100% fraudulent auctions.

DVForge already is an underground operation that OFTEN thumbs at civil obedience, integrity or business ethic.
Jack Campbell, the CEO, is most famous for this statement:

A better link with more detailed history is here

A while back I had a journal entry (since deleted) called Crimefighting: SuperZOOX style
In it I describe how I fight crime (or injustice) on a regular basis.
There are a number of modern day super heros in my opinion and they all use Media as their weapon.
I started my website specifically to root out the evils in the Mac world.
I've been reasonably sucessful with the main target : Jack Campbell - he's the guy that tried to start a "write a virus contest" a few months back
Many BLOGS popped up during the election that from a perspective were crimefighting/justice seeking.
I think modern super heros are everywhere!
The 2nd amendment is about gun rights - what does it have to do with this conversation?
...which discredits anything further you have to say, about any subject.
... black kettle.
You still didn't answer the question - what does the right to bear arms have to with free speech?
used the 2nd amendment as a 'suppressed subject'.
Mmmk
