Try talking to someone with a family. Comcast doesn't enforce their bandwidth cap... the only other option for us has a 250gb per month limit, with a $10 per 50gb fee after that. We use about 600gb per week.
I'm quite fine with having interpersonal problems with people that can't refrain from burning my house down. In fact, I would prefer that such people not be comfortable coming into my house at all.
Not that I'm saying I'm better than people who are wrong. Everyone is wrong sometimes. But, the key is ignorance vs stupidity, and what we are talking about when we say "better". If I tell a person that they can't put cans in the microwave and why, and they learn it because they were just ignorant before, that's different than someone who has already been told multiple times and just can't learn it. The person that can learn it is probably going to be better at a lot of things - self-sufficiency (living alone), being a babysitter, etc. etc. This may not make them a "better person" overall, though; maybe they understand why they shouldn't put cans in the microwave, but do it anyway in an attempt to purposely burn the house down. I would say, in that case, they are morally a worse person.
That's not true at all, an adult can choose to surround themselves with only not-normal people, and use self-checkouts, online ordering etc. to avoid interacting with normal people.
But if you want to eat something that goes in the microwave, and you therefore decide to cook that spam by putting the can in the microwave, then you become wrong. And it is necessary to point out that you are wrong, not to make you look dumb, but so that you don't burn the house down.
Personally, if I quit (or otherwise left) on good terms, I'd have no problem telling someone how to fix/change such things before I left. If they laid me off, I wouldn't care about being sloppy.
It could possibly be trademarked. But unlike copyright, trademark is not automatic. They would have to specifically register (and be granted trademark protection; it could - and likely would - be denied) and maintain the trademark for each code.
In this case, though, this is not what happened though because the email specifically says:
I have been notified of a posting on the “Hack A Day” website concerning hacking of Tektronix’ copyrighted modules for use in oscilloscopes. Hacking those modules permits unauthorized access to and use of Tektronix’ copyrighted software by means of copying of Tektronix’ copyrighted code in those modules.
Which to me seems like a purposely confusing way of saying the article is telling people how to violate copyright... but that isn't even copyright violation.
Unless they copy/pasted (or typed word-for-word) exactly what was in the instruction manual, it's not a copyright violation. It is not a copyright violation to read instructions and re-write them in your own words.
Nevermind, I just realized the reason - because the card could be fake. I suppose they ARE actually calling their bank who then checks it against a list.
The 1 single time I've been asked for ID when using a credit card, the card wasn't even in my name, it was in my husband's name. They still let me use it.
What reasons? Because it isn't obvious. I have never seen/experienced a merchant calling their own bank for this - always the customer's bank. Though I've always seen it as the customer reading off the number, not the merchant holding the card and reading it.
here is no need for the number on the card, but one that the store should have written down somewhere
I know that for cards issued by a credit union, at least, the number called must be the credit union, not the card company. (It makes for one hell of a pain when you have an issue during the weekend. Which just happens to be when I do most of my buying and in-person selling.) The store/vendor can't be expected to keep every local credit union's number on file, and call the correct one when there is an issue. And if it isn't local, well you get the idea...
If we're talking basic human rights, shouldn't the right to food, shelter, clean water, sleep, growing your own food, selling your own products and services, buying your own medication at the global market price, and freedom from conscription come before broadband and Youtube?
The internet isn't just youtube. I make my living by selling the products I make online. I afford food thanks to coupons I get online combined with sales that I find out about online. I order medication online. I find out that a water main was broken and the town's water is not safe to drink online. I pay my property taxes (to keep my shelter) online. It is all connected, nowadays.
Uh, but they don't need to be competitive - they have a monopoly! Staying competitive would only be an issue if customers actually had the ability to choose a competitor. The majority of the US has ONE isp to choose from.
That was not an option when I canceled my cable and had to return the cable box. I specifically asked if I could mail it - nope, not even on my own dime.
Well, that's great if you have the time to go in. Comcast won't let us change our service from my husband's ex-wife's name to my husband's name unless both of them go into the office. The office is 30 minutes away from us, an hour away from the ex, and only open during the hours my husband is at work. They were never able to coordinate a time/day to go there.
When we canceled our cable tv, it was during a time that I couldn't drive due to seizures. We had to pay the rental fee on a cable box that did nothing for a few months, until my husband's vacation from work when he was able to take it in.
books, which are never updated and only rarely publish errata - and when errata IS published, it is never stored with the book. I'd love to see someone walk into a school, open a textbook and denounce every "hoax" inside. Bonus points if it's a school in an "underprivileged" area, which most likely uses older books!
My brother went to look something up in an encylopedia the other day... but it was not there, because it was something that came about or was discovered after his encyclopedia set was published.
! Not so that the kids can yell at me, but so that I can actually HEAR them over the wind blowing through the windows and the cars outside. I know how to project my voice, so the kids hear me fine, but I can't hear them at all. And I'm just in a car.
But just no, to the conversation mirror - most parents already don't keep their eyes on the road, we don't need to give them another excuse.
Doctors are also not allowed to tell prospective parents whether their child will be a boy or a girl -- that is forbidden because it could also lead to infanticide.
I would think that would lead to abortions, which would greatly reduce infanticide...
Obviously you have some problems grasping where the system actually failed and what could have been done to prevent this failure. None of the points of failure would have been swayed by a statue.
Most of these women (who play a bit of casual games) don't even WANT to be called gamers, so I don't understand the push to call them so.
So does "bear cave" only mean a cave for male bears? Our species IS called man...

Or people who want a job bad enough to leave the comfort of their home and go to the local library.
Many companies still use fax machines, btw.

This is a big part of the reason why I refuse to work an hourly-paid job...

The main reason I ever need to use a computer when away from home is that my phone is dead or lost...
Because there is no kanji for "mt. Fuji"... you have to type fujisan or fujiyama
