  1. Infrastructure and funding opportunity on US Sits On Supply of Rare, Tech-Crucial Minerals · · Score: 1

With such a high start up cost I'm guessing we would only be building one? Well, that makes for a good opportunity to pick a good location safe from natural disasters. Since we'd build it to protect national interests perhaps there would be funding from the defense side of the budget? It also seems to present a great reason to strengthen the railroad infrastructure for delivering ore from mining locations to the new plant. A strong rail system would be good for other reasons too and would probably sell well with the current administration.

    I agree with you.

A company going into direct competition would have an engineer on staff reverse engineer the device. Then the design engineers would recast the design with parts from their own approved vendor list. Additionally they would probably update the design with newer parts and standards.

The cool thing is that now a company that is making a small quantity of devices, like tools for technicians in a plant or in the field, can incorporate this device. I've seen this done with palm pilots, and that took some work. (no schematics or source code for the palm pilot)

Here we have a device with DSP's and code to make them go. Plus an RF transmitter/receiver. This is the sort of thing a power company might use to communicate with household power meters. Or maybe someone out there will mod the code enough to talk to their home computer right from the garage. Upload songs without taking the unit out of the car.

Broadcast an MP3 code to a radio connected to your garage door. Seems like there are alot of options.

I was so happy to uncover this even though it replaced a macro I spent hours figuring out. Now I'm all excited to learn more about pivot tables!

ps. I use the above stated bit to match a needed quantity to the cost at that quantity. With a pivot table I could expand to multible vendors I'm guessing.

That seems like a good question to me too. Our authoress is short on words when she has such strong photo's. She may know the answer to this question, but I don't. So, did a quick web search...
    http://www.belarusembassy.cz/en/belarus /chernobyl/ examination.shtm
This web site was quite informative-going into detail of radiological nature and physiological nature that I do not comprehend.

My summary would read: Many institutions that make radiological medicine their specialty have continued to track the health of a population that number's near 2 million people. These are the people who were caught in the wake of the Chernobyl accident. The study began in 1987 and continues to this day, with results gathered from the care and treatment being recorded in data banks. Thyroid diseases have a high occurance in the children from evacuation areas. Iodine was scarce in their diet normally and when the incident made radioactive iodine available their thyroid's didn't know better than to make use of it. They also suffer from other internal organ problems. Other ailments suggest accelerated aging.
I'll end with a quote from the site that answers whether this population was dying from natural old age.
"The average annual growth of the death rate among the registered population groups for 10 years passed since the Chernobyl Incident has increased in the most damaged Gomel Oblast by 5 times and more, and over the Republic as a whole - by 2.2 times as compared with the similar period prior to the emergency."

  10. Re:UV during nighttime... on Research Promises Full-Spectrum Solar Cell · · Score: 1

Just a thought. I wonder if it's reasonable to pump water to elevated storage and use this as overnight power. Overnight power needs are MUCH less than peak day time needs. This discrepency could take care of the energy losses in the pumping schema. With a very efficient solar cell we might not mind the loss of energy being redirected to water pumping. An added side benefit: aerating water helps remove organics (foam fractionation). Now if we had a million solar roofs and elevated water tanks... Admittedly this solution is awfully dependant on availability of water and space. Anyone for flywheel batteries?
