  1. Re:How he did it on GPS Tracking Device Beats Radar Gun in Court · · Score: 0, Troll

I have seen a GPS device, based on Windows Mobile, with two clocks! One was the GPS clock and the other the device (Pocket PC) clock. They functioned independitly of each other ( there was setting somewere that manually reset the device clock with GPS but was buried on the system settings...)

  2. A Fire Upon the Deep on No More Coding From Scratch? · · Score: 1

I'm pretty sure that the novel of Vernor Ving that talks about this issue is "A Fire Upon the Deep" and not the "Deepness in the Sky". The later is a prequel of the former. "A Fire Upon the Deep" was also one of the first science fiction novels to portrait Usenet.

    I think not.

The pattern of grow that is described is more like a tumor.

A tumor is composed of cells that are more or less clones of a cell (like agent Smith). Usually, in a organism, the cells don't replicate forever, and are stopped by signals send by other cells in the tissue, body or even in itself.

What happens to a cell to start replicating like mad (as in a tumor) is that the genes of the receptors to the stop signals are damaged (mutated), and the cell ignores those signals. The cell can also start producing start signals itself with the same result.

After this the parallels with agent Smith cloning are evident.

The name is the same, but they are differnt things...

The DivX that you are talking about it's based on MPEG-2 like any DVD.

The DivX that we here are talking about it's a codec based on MPEG-4.

Well, with this ruke any enterprise on Canada can reproduce and sell this mouse. It could be good to the research because there is no need to pay heavy licensing to the monopoly of the mouse.

But one question remains. How could a living being could patented. The genetic code maybe, but the animal per se?!

I think it's not a crime to scan the brain of persons on a lab when they want. (they probably are being paid to be guinea pigs). But i don't like to have to see "better" comercials that make me want to buy things i don't want, just because they now know how human brain could be fooled.
