... 99.99% is simply a fun number you pulled from your ass, because even if you did have 9,999 completely functional components in your computer
How much different models of mice, motherboards, processors, network devices, graphics cards,... exist? Surely more than 10. It's not about percentage of your components, it's about all recent, different type of components.
If you had only 10 components/devices in your computer and for each of those there would be a 1000 different models then you'd have 10000 variations. Out of a billion users, only 99.99% success would make a lot of unhappy customers...
I won't go into explaining the difference between a hypothetical "music swapping" site and a tracker. Insert here gun, car and other analogies.
So, basically, it's like Fannie and Freddie are angry because you drive your car way to fast in front of their subprime real estate and then hatch an evil plan to bring down the entire car industry. Awesome!

Haven't you heard the expression "the customer is always right?"
Yeah, but the answer to that question is "no".
In IT customers often have unrealistic expectations. In that case you need to explain, negotiate and generally try to save the planet in a polite but firm way...
Especially in this example, there are probably no real business cases to be made for working with IE6 (or IE in general, maybe). ActiveX? Proprietary legacy software? Those would possibly tip the balance in the other direction. Inertia, on the other hand...
Your stalwart defence of MS and lack of knowledge outside the MS realm[...]
I think that is actually the psychological condition known as the Redmond Syndrome, where victims identify with the cause of the perpetrator. A very well known case once occurred in Stockholm...
I think both scp and sftp are installed with the openssh package. Command line tools of course.
And in the menu 'Places' there is an item 'Connect to Server...' that launches Nautilus using the sftp, ftp, webDav, smb protocols. You might have to install openssh for that too, I'm not sure.

Acknowledging you're joking, 3D design is hardly a perfect fit for a standard interface - so there are not really conventions to be broken. Some 2D conventions are sacrificed to reach into the third dimension. Other 3D apps also differ significantly from Word or OpenOffice;-)
...meaning that this year will be exactly one second longer...
No it isn't. It's a 86401 seconds longer. Than last year. Or 86400 longer than the previous leap-second-year 2005. Oh, yeah, it's exactly 1 second longer than 2004 and 1996.
I confess enjoying myself as a time nazi. Should not forget to count february 29th...

Then there are those that complain about Windows being a bitch.
Dear Mr. A. Coward, At last you're giving up. Goodbye.

I think you mistyped "less evil" there. Glad to help.

You, sir, get a +1 Ironic from me.

No. It's about YOU modifying YOUR Firefox by installing a third party plugin if YOU wish to do so.
But at least in Ubuntu you can change that easily...
/etc/sudoers: timestamp_timeout = 0

When in Rome... In most democratic countries, donations by companies to (potential) political leaders would be seen as corruption.
stop it.

Can't we forbid such foul language? Think of all the children that would read such laws...
That's just Steve Jobs making sure Jeff Bezos's 1-click patent remains relevant...
You tap 'tip tap tap tip tap tap tip tap tip tip tip tip' which spells 'EMACS' in morse code.
Or, install VIM and then hit ANY key.
He didn't say 'any Linux distribution'.
