  1. its a known fact on BBC says "Avoid Explorer" · · Score: 3, Insightful

its a known fact. They're also trying to do with the customer's knowledge with messenger version 5. hell.. users are calling it a "downgrade". when is microsoft gonna learn that its all about empowering the user... not crippling him i don't say their products aren't good.. after all u can;t survive with 100% marketing, 0% product. what are they gonna lose if they declare Internet Explorer as an open source project? They aren't selling it as a seperate product anyways

  2. scientific minds on Speaking Out For Free Software In India · · Score: 2, Insightful

Well, Indians have known to be logical and scientific. They contributed the number "0" (zero) to the world of mathematics (and i don't mean zock). The "jantarmantar" which looks like a child's playpark is actually a lifesize astronomical observatory. So why not software? India claims its population is its weakness.. I say , exploit it, it can be India's strength too. If Linux is attacked at such young an age, it won't be non user friendly anymore.... yah.. we'll have a few million plus geeks in a matter of a few years ;)

  3. all in the game on Electronic News Is Shutting Its Doors · · Score: 5, Insightful

This is typical of the IT industry. IBM - the pioneers of the homePC lost out to other companies like Dell/Compaq/HP. The GUI pioneered by Xerox (poor sods) lost it to Apple and then finally to Microsoft. Even the console market - Sega and Nintendo are losing out to the playstations and maybe the Xbox(still to be seen). SO why not a newspaper ?

  4. sans Women on Spielberg to Produce Live-Action Tintin Movie(s) · · Score: 2, Interesting

The Tintin comics also explicitly left out women from its plots except for Bianca who was more of an ogre than a woman ! Also, the Tintin comics had an excellent sense of humour. Thomson and Thompson, Snowy ,Haddok.. its possible. The movies may end up being a lot like the Indiana Jones movies - exotic locations such as Nepal and India, the supernatural touch , the scifi touch. And as quite a few posts claim that Americans aren't familiar with Tintin, it might actually work regardless of the fact that it doen's even vaguely match the original Tintin. It would be looked upon as a new blockbuster... My opinion - go for it!

  9. October SKy on High Power RocketCam Videos · · Score: 1

This sounds very similar to the premise of October Sky , a brilliant movie based on a true story about some school kids (from a coal mining town)getting obsessed with rockets and blowing things up in the process; and how ultimately this passion helps them get out of the unescapable coaltown. On of 'em actually made it to NASA. However , all this was sans cameras. So where are these guys going to land up ?

  11. spidey sense on Stan Lee Sues Marvel Comics · · Score: 1

Look's like Stan can do with a lil bit of spidey's own spidey sense ;) I hope contracts for "The Amazing Spiderman" (the sequel to the original) are more in favour of Stan. Stan must have been paid more for his cameo in MallRats than for this movie !!! :o

To what extent are these machines controlled ? This give rise to lotsa alarming thoughts. They can then program the whole system. They want p% profit. Hence only $x should be lost by the casino .... can they manipulate the machines ? This is a scary scenario.. you're at the mercy of the casino... totally.

  13. Where are IMs going ? on AIM And ICQ to be Integrated · · Score: 1

Where are IMs going ? The much hyped upgrade of MSN Messenger 4.xxx to 5.xxx doesn't have much to show. Yahoo seems to be going strong on their IMV funda , though they haven't released the tools to build your own IMV (why NOT?) GAIM is great , though the aesthetics aren't too great. Its usable , though , and that is of foremost importance. ICQ ,AOL being compatible , now that is a true step forward. Maybe we are heading towards the inevitable standard IM protocol , which will be great. The other for these IMs to go is the Winamp3 way , where it's no longer an application , but more of a platform.

  14. the os under the desktop.. what abt vice versa ? on Learning UNIX for Mac OS X · · Score: 1

This book seems to be aimed at exploring the OS under the smooth MacOS. How do u think a book on the smooth Desktop over the roughedged Linux would be recieved ? The whole Linux community seems to be shifting to the Linux Desktop.... Lindows , Lycoris (yet to become stable) . large releases like RedHat8 , Suse 8.1 and Mandrake too are moving towards the desktop. Next up UnitedLinux. How about some books on this ? Are we going to have some standardization done ?
