    (3) New audio cds which will not work on standard audio equipment, but only on PCs with security locks.
    (4) The DMCA which just abt doesnt let you comment/work on any digital product.
    (5) Billing Kazaa users - no small amounts either
    (6) MP3 compression usage now demands a royalty fee.(br) These people seem to be forgetting that they exist because of us, the customers. And they are trying to upset those very people that help them stay in business. These guys are trying to push us into a corner and will probably start charging us for the air we breathe... soon. It disgusts me, and OPEN SOURCE makes all the more sense to me. Looks like there is gonna be a war... on intellectual property and rights.. soon.

This is a brilliant concept. There was a 3d game called Chasm-The Rift, which enabled the server to actually split the display into 4 quadrants , so that one could see the players fragging each other - i guess it was ahead of its time. I wonder how they are gonna make the costing work ; will they charge the same as a movie ticket for 2 hrs of gameplay? And why only consoles ? Why not PCs ? I guess we'll have publishers like EA sponsering events, with banners (and maybe pompom girls) all over the place. I'd be spending the better part of my weekend at such a venue !!!!

I would consider bundling Star Office as a half hearted attempt. It would STILL mean a product from a large corporate, it would STILL mean you are paying for it. Why not go with OpenOffice ? Sony may have to build a support service specifically for OpenOffice concerns, but it would mean propagating open source and maybe pushing OpenOffice to develope higher standards.
We hate Microsoft coz they have a monopoly and they exploit it. Would things really be better if SUN or Oracle had that same monopoly? Why not just boost opensource? And let these biggies develope their support services for these products.

I'm surprised though, that the US govt is contemplating this. They have always been a paranoid and suspicious lot, and to embrace technology, the innards of which many "outsiders" have designed, is a brave step for them. The recent "hack" in one of the recently released open source software, doesn't seem to have perturbed them either.
This is a step, in the right direction. No software is perfect. BUT Linux definitly is more sound than windows......(maybe they're opting for linux coz they know NSA has its access into the Windows OS;) )

More than 70% of the world is covered by water, can you imagine how much energy we have, potentially ???

Assimov and his imperial galaxy. It would be so typical of humans to migrate from earth , and after a few million years refuse to admit that humanity originated on earth. Assimov's books do tend to be a little slow in comparison to other sci fis and he does tend to over-obsess with mind control and telepathy, and he may be wrong about his robot fundas, but the rest is all brilliant. He addresses the shorcomings of mankind - this is who we are - this is what we do. Gene Rodenberry was supposed to be very accurate with his sci-fi predictions. Apparantly the design of the starship Enterprise is credible, the matter-anti-matter converters would have to be a safe distance from the main hull. He also foresaw the mobilie phone/wireless funda. Ofcourse, he too had a few flaws in his plot - he couldnt land the damn ship- hence the beaming up and down and he was obsessed with peace and minimized violence (which seems to be impossible for the human race). Orson Scott Card and his Ender series were pretty cool too. 20,000 leagues under the sea was hardcore sci-fi at the time of its relese. It maybe all real now, but Jules Verne , again, was ahead of his time. The most convincing sci-fi plot i have ever come across is - The Matrix. it's more credibile and has lesser loopholes.....

I can't remember the link.. but I read this article about how the internet.. or a common virtual world may be harmful to the development cycle of the world...
