    Right. Thing is, Obama's tax increases wouldn't hit you because they'll only apply to people who make over about $250k/year. I think it's a very good thing, and I'd like to see tax rates close to 100% for people with more than, say, 10 million dollars. The distortion of wealth distribution in the US has reaches such absurd levels that a drastic correction is needed. Redistribute these absurd quantities of money to the middle and lower classes, fast.

    Hang on, I'm confused. You're telling me it told you the current tally of number of votes?? That could seriously influence people's choices.

    Trouble is, if those in jail for narcotics convictions had (or had been able to) voted for candidate(s) that were opposed to this crap years ago, it wouldn't be in place now. Apparently they couldn't be bothered or there were no popular candidates that supported their position. :-(

    Didn't seem to give a damn about that when they were colonizing the USA. Anyhow, I think there is evidently less and/or less sophisticated life on Mars than there was in the USA a few hundred years ago. Whilst finding it, if it does exist, could be fun, I don't think we should be denying ourselves the expansion that Mars colonies would give us, because of it.

    Most systems today are so encumbered by having been built by toolkits built on toolkits built on metalanguages ad nauseum that a simple "hello world" program now can run hundreds of K of memory.

    Except that they're not a 'hello world' program. They're a 'build a GUI, keep updating it whilst returning control to the OS when required, respond to the user in a timely manner, and after all initialization, maybe 1% of the code has anything to do with displaying hello world in some control' programs.

    Hello world programs are still tiny... if you're using a very simple, non-multitasking OS.

    Things are still less efficient today though, I think.

    I can easily answer that question: because after the first time round, everyone will try to create an intelligent mammalian creature that can control a spaceship, because they always want to get to the space stage. Why the heck would you want to 'win' at creature stage? "Your creature is very good at digesting fruit, and defending itself. Its kind survived for a trillion years in relative mediocrity until its sun exploded. Well done. The end."

    At least the Spore way your blob/snowman/giant penis can continue to more interesting stages.

    I have a mere 80GB hard drive and haven't filled it with all the crap I download yet. With 500GB drives coming out, pruning will soon be unnecessary (at least, owing to lack of space).
