It doesn't ship with vanilla GNOME. He noted in the keynote that it would be a Ximian patched GNOME, but not Ximian Desktop. YaST is just one app, not the whole desktop. This discussion is over anyway, Miguel and Nat Friedman already posted a couple of posts clearing everything up.
He mentioned that the Ximian Openoffice will come with 9.1, but he also mentioned that a QT Openoffice will also ship with 9.1. SuSE isn't standardized on QT; it just uses KDE as its default DE.
Bullshit. I've watched that keynote from Novell's website. (and you can too) All he said is that SuSE 9.1 will be getting a QT-based Openoffice. THAT IS ALL. nothing more. The journalist completely missinterpreted this, saying that SuSE is going to standardize on QT. It's all a missunderstanding.
As mentioned in this Footnotes article, the new Mozilla supports smb:// browsing through gnome-vfs, and the integration with your GTK2 theme has improved.
I think it's best to start out with a gui designing program such as Glade for GTK+ or QT Designer for QT. They write the interface for you, streamlining the process of learning GTK/QT. There are plenty of Glade/GTK+/GNOME tutorials at developer.gnome.org. KDE has something similar on developer.kde.org as well.
There is seriously no reason to buy music online IMHO. Just buy the CD at the store, and rip it onto your hard drive. You get a disk with all the music, uncompressed. Plus, you get the case and all the artwork/essays that the artists include with each album. The artists still get paid, and everyone wins.
Rhythmbox integrates the wonderful Sound Juicer as a ripper. It is the most simple, straight-forward ripper available for the linux desktop. Rhythmbox may not be itunes yet, but it's making improvements constantly.
Hehe, I thought the exact same thing when I saw it. It kind of makes you think: Are they simply trying to copy what has already been done, or are they simply trying make.Net development look more attractive to Java devs by making look familier?
I just saw an ad on Comedy Central basically saying that it's now only on DircTV and cable. Why they would care to inform the viewer of this, I have know idea, but the ad is running nevertheless.
Wow, that seems like a pretty big bug. I wonder how people lived with their volume not staying the same.>
Yeah, that was seriously annoying as all hell. I had to reset all my settings in alsa evertime i logged in. Whatever, GNOME doesn't have that type of problem.
GNOME has had the Human Interface Guidelines for over a year and a half now. The whole project is dedicated toward usability. Don't get me wrong, KDE has some inovative technologies behind it, but even 3.2 is miserably lacking in terms of usability and style. IMHO, this "Quality Team Project" looks more like an after-thought or a lame side project than a redirection of the whole project.
Redhat hasn't dropped the desktop. If anything, it's stronger on the desktop now that it's called Fedora because it's managed by the community. The sky's the limit man.:)
competition makes for good products, as companies are forced to compete for consumer dollars.
It's not just for the sake of competition. There's the factor of diversification to consider as well. If one product fails to deliver an esential feature, another one usually will, so overall, more flexibility is gained.
i need this site to be up 24/7/365. I absolutely demand it. Slashdot is my life. Without a place to post zealous linux comments, my life is meaningless. I might have to go outside or something, and then everyone would see my tiny penis, as I refuse to wear pants because pants are Microsofts way of keeping us Linux users down.
I agree. People argue and bicker way too much about their desktops. It's really not all that productive.
this is a known troll. please mod accordingly.
I'm sorry, but I guess I just don't get it. What is special about this keyboard?
How so? I can run GTK+ apps on windows.

I can tell this is going to be a popular thread.

You're not even watching TV right now, are you? exactly.

That's exactly the type of thing I'm talking about.

Netcraft confirms, Webmonkey is dy... fuck it.
It's OK. Just because you have sex with men doesn't neccessarily mean you're gay... fag.
So where can I legally view the code now?
