If his conclusions are:
"the same or greater computing power could be obtained for an equal price, without the complications of modifying the XBOX"
then has anyone tried the reverse - modifying a cheap Walmart PC to work as an Xbox?
Surely some form of tempest hardening - shielding the equipment in a faraday cage - would effectively protect the equipment (and cats). The article points out a microwave oven, thats just doing the reverse, putting the energy inside a faraday cage. I know that some buildings are shielded in Ottawa, but that has more to do with spying than than anything else.

Don't laugh, HP made a digital watch/calculater in 1977.
Surely it is a black and white situation.. He stole something. Even with the "ignorance of the law being no excuse" argument, he should have realized he was doing wrong.
Bell Sympatico are changing to a 10 Gbyte cap, with a $30.00 (Canadian) maximum extra charge/month on anything over 10Gbytes upload or download. To be fair to Sympatico, their servers tend to be always available.
Next time this happens, turn the key fully clockwise and on the console do "CTL B". This means it will stop at the BCH prompt - this ONLY works on the K boxes unfortunately, on all others watch the screen for the "hit any key or wait 10 seconds" message. At the BCH prompt type SER. This will do a search of all potentially bootable devices and should include all disc drives. No drive= bad drive, SCSI cable or SCSI controller. By the way, on any HP computer do not disable the memory check unless your troubleshooting, the extra few minutes might save you problems later on.
I have often wondered how long it takes to boot one of these things. In the HP-UX world I know how long it takes for a K class (sometimes more than 20 minutes). Superdomes are sometimes faster, but not by much.
Isn't that the whole point of why it's so succesfull amongst the over 26's. In everyones adolescent fantasy, we all want to be rich, a jock and have lots of admirers. Sure its a "Hollywood" , but so what.
P.S. I am more than 2x 26 years. so I enjoyed it twice as much.
Strange things here on Ottawa. Unemployement stayed about the same - 6.9% - this in spite of the fact that Nortel, JDS Uniphase and others have laid of about 25,000 people over the last year or so. It's great living in a government town.
From the article -
"We don't yet know how this happens, exactly" So they have discovered something but don't know how it works ! Slow down a minute and think about this. It worries me when any research lab comes up with a neat toy but is not quite certain of the proccess, or presumeably the ramifications. Before this hits the market I sure hope they will find out how it works.
My favourite movie scene was in Terminator 2, when in the old computer room they totaly destroyed a bunch of old HP 7925 disk drives. I've spent hours cleaning and re-aligning the heads on those things - usually at 3:00 am after a disk crash. Oh well..
Did you mean PUBLIC HEALTH.
Interestingly google turned up many results on PUBIC HEALTH, but on further inspection it gave results for public. eg "pubic health nurses" Interesting.
/. has many posts concerning the prevention of downloading or copying Music and Video CDs (see next article for instance.) Well it seems to me that if we are all unable to copy then perhaps the music industry will stop demanding their cut of every blank CD and audio tape thats sold. It do not copy music, but I do backup my PC.
Anti barnicle paints containing capsicum
[chilli peppers] keep the little suckers at bay however.
The same barnicle problem applies to the turbines. FYI- the sail boat community tested out anti-barnicle coatings and one of the best price/performance coatings was a diaper rash cream, maybe it contained chilli peppers.
As everyone has already said, the smallest size hubble can see is 80m, however as a corner cube reflector was left on the moon, all you need is a laser beam ( or a laser pointer with new batteries)
In WW2 - the black and white one - they put proximity detecters, esentially a radar system, using tubes. The idea was the shell would go bang when it approached an aircraft. That was 55 years ago !.
I can run the CD based version on just about any PC EXCEPT the HP Omnibook 4150 - and thats the only reason that I cut the CD. Yes I did try all of the options.
This seems a neat toy, but as I'm getting fed up with powerpoint presentations,
I hope I never see one. Most presenters come loaded with far too complicated
presentations, each slide with too much data (that's why they need the laser
pointer) and they spend all there time driving the computer not telling the
story.CBC had a story on Monday
about this, andTom Creed from Saint
John's University has some more insite.

I suppose that to break the habit of smoking these one must use a nicotine free patch. Buy shares in J&J - bandaids folks....

From the article came the answer,
"Somebody might give you a free puppy this afternoon," Smith said, "but you're going to have to go buy dog food in the morning."
Thanks, I'll try that

Still on a no-name PC it looks great.
