Richard Garriott used to open his Austin house to the public for a pretty spectacular Haunted House. As I recall, people camped out front for days to make sure they got one of the limited spots.
I always thought that was cool of the guy. I think he's moved out of that house and into a "castle" on some serious acreage, not too far from his old place.
I bought the SonyEricsson T68i confident that it would make girls sexually attracted to me. For some reason, it has not helped out at all. I'm pretty sure the P800 will fix this though.
This guy reminds of Ira Einhorn , the hippie guru who BS'd his way into lots of "adjunct appointments" like Mr. Lanier's page says he has. Lots of companies thought he was some eccentric genius because he said freaky things and dressed weird.
The 3.x codec was a hacked Microsoft codec. The Divx 4 & 5 are legal. I have a binder full of 3.x movies and it kind of sucks that they won't play on any of the new hardware Divx players for legal reasons.
This page has a huge database of players and tells you how well they play VCD, SVCD, XSVCD, DVD-R, etc. I used it recently to make sure my new Panasonic could player SVCD's.
By "mom and pop," I think the original poster was referring to the paper playing cards that Nintendo made in the early 20th century. They are a pretty old company.
Transmeta 64 bit chip coming out??

You gouge out his eye!!
Do you write the labels for Dr. Bronner's soap?
Hypercard came out in 1987.
Who needs more than 512k of RAM??

Yeah, I think when it first started, it was typed as DivX;) with a little wink.

Maybe "mostly sucks" was a little harsh, but the stories now don't make me laugh out loud like they once did. The recent story on BBSpot about Saddam Actually Just Doing Research for a Book on Weapons of Mass Destruction was brilliant and reminds me of what The Onion used to be like.
Has anybody noticed that The Onion mostly sucks today also? It seems like the decline began when they moved from Wisconsin to New York.
