Mining the stuff is one thing. Where would you send the ores for processing? Or would anyone willing to open rare earth processing plants in the US, considering the environmental issues that comes with disposal of toxic waste generated by such plants?
China doesn't totally ban practice of religion. People are free to practice what they like, as long as they do what the government tells them to do. What the government has problem with, is organised religion, like Christianity, that tells people that they should do this and that, instead of what the government dictates.
Malaysia only recently implemented the biometrics for immigrants. They're also giving away citizenship now. All you have to do is to promise to vote for the ruling government in the coming elections.
Really, I'm finding that you westerners are really paranoid about security holes and what-not. Here in the third world we have multitudes of computers running unpatched (often pirated) versions of windows, yet somehow our civilisation is still progressing, there's no imminent danger of us having an information technology meltdown just yet.
For a new computer, Win7 makes sense. However, I don't see much reason to upgrade an existing computer that is running Windows XP perfectly well. The only reason I can think of is if one's running 32-bit XP on a 64-bit computer and want to increase the RAM.
Seriously, this is an honest question. Why do we still need lawyers to defend ourselves nowadays, when we can access any information with a few clicks of the mouse and a few keystrokes on the keyboard? What can lawyers do that we can't?
Different phones have different methods of rooting, but with a HTC Desire, like the one I own, the user only needs to boot to the bootloader to proceed with rooting, thus rendering any protection the user set in the OS irrelevant.
If the phone is rooted, more often than not it would have a custom recovery installed, so the user can just boot into recovery and access the whole file system through USB without even having to boot the OS.
What happens when you don't respond to the pop-up, or don't enter the password? For some phones, they'd default to "Charge Only" mode with USB debugging enabled. The user would then be able to use adb to access the entire phone file system - depending on whether or not the phone is rooted, of course.
Actually, yes. When I get taxed, I have less money to buy stuff. When humanity goes extinct, well, what do I care? I would have been long dead by then.
Well, in that case, let's lock up all 300 million people living in the US. Then we can be sure that not a single guilty person would go free in the whole of the US.
So, 2000 years from now, when those sources are no longer accessible, would it be okay to say that Xaositecte's great great grandparents never existed?
Are you saying you use condoms with your wife?
Tectonic movement willed by God.
See? they're not mutually exclusive.

So I googled for "define: revolution" and guess what? Definition no. 2 is "American Revolution". What's the deal with that?

BBS? Haven't seen that in a while.
Usually in a big bowl of Kellogg's Cornflakes.
Isn't one advantage of C4 that it can be handled exactly like Playdough?
Effect can also be used as a verb in the right context, though I don't know whether the GP's usage is correct. What the hell's "the curve"?

TFA uses metric. For some reason, the poster felt it necessary to impose his imperial will onto slashdot.

How important? How many security exploits that affected Windows 2000 were discovered after support was dropped?
Are you sure? TFA does not say. If it include mobile systems, why aren't Windows Mobile/Windows Phone included in the Windows category?
On the whole, it's a badly written article. It does not even say where the number come from.

Forget red bull, use Brawndo - It's got electrolytes!
Age has nothing to do with it. WinXP's going to be 10 next year. Are the "hackers and script kiddies" going to stop hacking it then? I don't think so.
