China doesn't totally ban practice of religion. People are free to practice what they like, as long as they do what the government tells them to do. What the government has problem with, is organised religion, like Christianity, that tells people that they should do this and that, instead of what the government dictates.

Really, I'm finding that you westerners are really paranoid about security holes and what-not. Here in the third world we have multitudes of computers running unpatched (often pirated) versions of windows, yet somehow our civilisation is still progressing, there's no imminent danger of us having an information technology meltdown just yet.

For a new computer, Win7 makes sense. However, I don't see much reason to upgrade an existing computer that is running Windows XP perfectly well. The only reason I can think of is if one's running 32-bit XP on a 64-bit computer and want to increase the RAM.

Different phones have different methods of rooting, but with a HTC Desire, like the one I own, the user only needs to boot to the bootloader to proceed with rooting, thus rendering any protection the user set in the OS irrelevant.

If the phone is rooted, more often than not it would have a custom recovery installed, so the user can just boot into recovery and access the whole file system through USB without even having to boot the OS.

What happens when you don't respond to the pop-up, or don't enter the password? For some phones, they'd default to "Charge Only" mode with USB debugging enabled. The user would then be able to use adb to access the entire phone file system - depending on whether or not the phone is rooted, of course.
