If they could do everything ass-backwards without a speed loss just to make it extremely hard to port to/from OpenGL DirectX would do that. If they really just wanted to move faster, they could add layers above OpenGL and hack in new features into OpenGL; essentially fork it. They don't because there intention is not merely to be ahead of the curve; its about power.
Its actually in the law that SS#s can't be used as a UID outside of the social security admin. So again we have an example of a law not followed by private or public sectors.
I don't have a whole lot of respect for politicians or lawyers. If they actually mean what they say about SERVING THE PEOPLE then I don't think it is all that bad if a random segment of them die at a high enough frequency to deter many self-serving "ambulance chasers" from running for office.
Sure that sounds bad, but governments kill thousands of people each year (the USA does more like hundreds of thousands per year) so for a few politicians to die as collateral damage I think is worth the price of gaining the power an elected office affords them. Unfortunately, the most corrupt ones seem to do just fine.... (I'm not implying conspiracies, just observing.)
Bush woke up a lot of people into what has been going on. The hate is justified, the irrational directing of it is the problem. People should have been extremely upset before Bush even stole the election with the stuff Clinton did. More people are upset now, the ones who were upset long ago have been stewing for a long time. When I think of the WTO protests... and how it is twice (10x?) as bad as that today.... to the point where the libertarian/republican types are starting to get upset.... We haven't had too many people who were awake 15-40 years ago going violent, just these young ones unable to handle the spoonful they just got.
The parent's FTA says he liked Mein Kampf, The Communist Manifesto, Siddhartha -- I don't see how people are bringing up Communism with him and not Fascism when that book is there as well---- and it would take a really messed up person to attack a democrat 1st if they are Marxist fanatics when there are extreme Corporatists all over government.
Fox and the right wing don't live in the real world they create their own relative reality as Karl Rove openly intended to do as a founding principle of his campaigning technique; I heard it myself over a decade ago. They want to not feel bad or at all responsible or guilty and one of many rationalizations and emotional escapes is to belittle and make less of the situation - and.... their popular technique of blaming the victim, used for many decades by their party as if it was part of the playbook (although I think its a sign of a deeper character trait common to them, as they have targeted certain demographics strongly and therefore have large numbers of certain types of people in their party-- resulting in the character of the organization to shift to reflect their changing makeup. Quite likely to the point where we can create profiles or brain scans to ID what is wrong with them-- its hard to filter out groups you can study like this and I think to some degree they've done all the hard work for researchers.)
Idiots they used to sucker with a few lines and slogans have taken it too far. It has gone out of their control, where some of those suckers are even getting elected believing the empty rhetoric that was never intended beyond getting some votes. The fanatics are so upset the instigators are getting boxed in by their own lies and deception - in a mob gone wild off of propaganda. It makes compromise more difficult and when global warming is impossible to ignore any longer they'll have their hands tied because they didn't think far enough ahead.... its already happened (different issues) to many republicans already. Bad times only make people more scared and unable to ignore problems - as times continue to get worse more scared angry people will surface. Emotional people don't think. Black and White takes less thinking-- the other party must be pure 100% evil, your politician must be 100% corrupt if they don't vote the way you want (you must be 100% correct and informed....) etc.
The only thing I find funny is just how accurately the assessment was a few years back: people are scared -- they cling to god, guns, and country(nationalism.) Bet this gunman had all 3.
10) students today are not like students in the past; but blame the teachers anyhow its all their fault. My father had a shooting range in his high school and a gun in his locker. Some kids also got a needed SMACK without a lawsuit or child protection getting involved. Some foreign systems don't care if your brat fail and go to a non-college track so the kid has some responsibility.
9) parents today are not like parents of the past (both likely work; among other issues) but blame the teachers anyhow its all their fault.
8) The culture today is not like it was in the past; but blame the teachers anyhow its all their fault.
7) Statistical measurements being the sole measure of educational success is a NEW obsession of modern times; forget how we got to the moon and the major accomplishments unparallelled by the recent generations without anything like the "accountability" system we have today.
6) Education is NOT business and can not effectively be run as one; this is another cultural shift.
5) Teachers are not shrinks. The fucked up student needs professional help as well as involved parents; oh, those mental behavior drugs seem to be connected with the school shootings... can't wait to hear what the long term impact is on a developing brain.... but don't let your 6 year old watch 3D movies...it'll mess up their vision.... but give your teen drugs to make them act less like caffeinated children.
4) A few generations of teaching patterns continue onward today simply because teachers are influenced by their education and the college system promotes a certain methodology as well -- both do not adapt that well and when it goes downward it takes many years before it can be noticed and a huge movement can alter the course which then takes many years to spread. The college system is poorly suited at creating teachers in my non-expert opinion (although my whole family are educators and I'm just a college instructor - which requires no education training) while a long term internship like apprenticeship system would work much better; although it would promote keeping old patterns (although human learning doesn't change so once you get decent at it...) I know that here we make teachers intern a short while with some reviewing involved. But I also know we review active old teachers and critique them by a system that is top heavy with management that lacks teaching talent or even experience! Nothing is more useless than 10 management disrupting class and then giving advice based upon that observation and their own opinions.
3) Not everbody can teach; some can learn - but they NEED to learn how. Old near-retired workers can sometimes be good mentors but I bet they'd make horrible teachers to uninterested inexperienced short attention span students. Somebody good for industry can be poor for education; same thing the other way! Sure, the lack of educators especially when their job is HARDER, lower paying, and has more deaths than the police does lower the bar so people who are poor in industry go into teaching-- but some people change careers because they "suck" when they may excel at teaching that topic and just never thought about teaching it... because after all, the only possible measure of your skill is if you can make money at it RIGHT??? (sarcasm- see Vincent van Gogh) Oh, do any of you find yourself spouting off about education because you were a student?? I bet you don't feel fit to tell a dentist how to fix your teeth simply because you've been to the dentist for years. Some of these people ARE professionals...
2) Textbooks, paper pushing, standardized tests and a newly devised national standardized testing system dictate WHAT, WHEN, and to some degree HOW things are tested and leaves little room for more effective techniques, ordering, etc. A super teacher (and I've had 1) may not function within an arbitrary scheme devised by politicians and their appointments - in fact, my super teacher was given ALL the troubled students who'd turn them all around but under the c
You do realize that a big buyer for massive computers is the "investment" "industry" so the can perform faster and faster trades-- apparently to the point where the network transaction speed is enough to screw up their scheme. The solution will be to update the computers to work around such problems and probably firms developing machines to mess with the others-- a cyberwar game going on in addition to the existing super computer games going on already...
Naturally, parent is correct; and the game needs to be able to be regulated and policed. What we have now is a casino instead of a capital market where they can drive 300mph and the cops are on rusty bicycles. The dirivatives needs to DIE! its a scam market and it contributes nothing significant to the greater society; furthermore, its YOUNG and hasn't been around in its present incarnations for that long.
While I object to the censorship strongly; if they would remove the word nigger from common knowledge everywhere so that its just a silly word without impact -- like long dead and dated terms like kike, cracker, honky, that lack the emotional impact and are virtually useless. Or go the other direction with the heavy use of profanity to the point of removing the profane nature of it. Its quite a childish game to have taboo words like we do. I think the gay community embracing the slurs and thereby diffusing or controlling the vocab was quite ingenious.
Racism is heavily shunned heavily in todays culture and while I strongly support this and I think it should be extended to stupid beliefs without merit; such as creationism... I however object to any thoughtless labeling merely because of the use of a word-- "Nigger" doesn't imply racism from the person using it anymore than does "Fuck" imply that you are inarticulate or lower class. You can figure that out by the greater context and THINKING as opposed to a simple word search classification.... which takes no more brain power than an 70s computer.
What bugs me is the mindless mob mentality that forms around these things. Its not a whole lot different from when the tables were turned and praising blacks was a bad thing (not referring to the extremes, we are not lynching) and the mindless mob joined in the shunning. I think everybody does MORE good when they learn to step back from the crowd and THINK for themselves about the situation.
When I see somebody get emotionally worked up over "nigger" or any other racial thing I get just as upset. If race doesn't matter, then these people are no different than an uneducated moron claiming the world is flat or the world was created in seven days. I don't think they deserve any different treatment than spouting other silly stupid beliefs. If its not an issue then why get so worked up over some moron says the stuff? Clearly if people get all upset and join a mob crusade on the issue then race does still matter (well, I'm being partially disingenuous because I think most people just mindlessly follow along in the righteous mob behavior.)
Today, race is less of a threat than people planning to help end the world to bring back Christ, or hate science to the point of undermining the advancement of their society. Women... that's an on going issue that needs some progress and emotional motivation with complexities because they are ACTUALLY different, its not just the skin deep meaningless tripe race is.
They should be confronted and shamed to a degree but it shouldn't be an excuse to hate them, lowering yourself down to their level. Quite often these days, the "nigger" user has less hate than those getting after them - in fight situations, it is used as a way to piss off black people who'd often fall for it like some conditioned response. Most the prejudice I saw for race wasn't any bit worse than it was for tons of other traits; keep in mind I am a northerner... I hear the south is still not caught up yet-- but then the bible belt is full of creationists...
AK Marc makes a good insightful point; both of you are filling gaps in your assessment of the other with guesses based on prior experience or merely protecting your egos.
As somebody who reads a lot of stuff, including journals; I can say that its pretty petty to accuse somebody else of lying and asking them to mount a defense with citations because YOU don't care enough about the truth to do it yourself.
Its a common ploy by people with brused egos or who are too LAZY to insult others into doing their work. Unless you want to attack the opponents character (play politics) with the matter.
If you think they might be lying or wrong about something why don't you get off your ass and see if you can find the information they are referring to??
I can't cite every source on the spot of everything I've ever read in the past. Some sources are proven wrong or misleading after people have read them and it isn't their job to review all corrections on everything they've ever read about (and how could they?) Somebody has to tell them about the source or the information at some point or they keep believing what they read.
Don't let your ego and anonymous identity remove so much tact that you just add to the already huge amount of dysfunction of web forums. You should have just asked for a hint, its likely if somebody could actually recall a source from memory they'd type it into their posting; a kind question might get the person to look it up or give a hint so you can find it.
You are a fanatic, probably to the point of being nutty; not that you'd ever see it. Hopefully, you realize you are at least a fanatic.
I suppose to you liberal is one of the biggest insults and socialist is second.
Actually, I don't fit into your tiny simplistic world view not saying you have one much smaller than most the intellectually stunted Americans... I'm sure I'd be even better off if I had been raised in a better society than the midwest.
FYI the USA isn't the greatest nation and if at any point it ever was it can not retain that position indefinitely, especially when its too arrogant to realize when and what is falling behind.
I have ex-convict friends, some of which I met after their prison time. As for advocating policies, I have little luck in the land of the left / right false dialemma represented by buzz phrases and 1 dimensional labels such as liberal.
I will say that somebody who calls themselves a conservative in recent times is a fool at best, liberals just less so (but must have some courage given the decades of negative propaganda on that label or maybe they are bigger fools?)
Ruin a word and then anybody who is labeled with it. Its like social scientists formulated racism so that others can apply that level of irrational hate to groups which can be CREATED while previously it was limited to race or external nations/cultures. Its not like such things do not have plenty of research and documentation. I in fact know two military propagandists who retired to work as highly paid political consultants for a certain man I shall not name. It comes as no surprise the nation has never been more divided with more angry people like yourself; its largely 1 sided - good thing - because if the liberals started doing the same thing it would heighten the whole problem and you'd have people like yourself but saying you should die.

"Criminal" is not that bad. In the USA, just about everybody is in violation of something - if you are the wrong person you can get shafted. Being a criminal doesn't make you immoral, in fact, many great holy people were criminals... Christians and Muslims should know of at least 1... that is a big figure in their book...
Some criminals are mentally sick; repeat rapists are sick in the head, they shouldn't get out until cured but we instead give them less time in jail than an "eco-terrorist" who burns some SUVs (which doesn't pay for the destroyed property BTW but makes us spend tax money punishing them for stupid shit like stealing $11...)
Anyhow, a legitimate nutcase isn't a criminal that can be reformed; maybe cured but that isn't what the criminal system does. I say this because you simplified "criminal" almost as badly as you simplified liberal.
If any of this goes over your head, I suggest you read it again before getting all indignant about me talking down to you, which I can not help because you are just so mentally blocked by your emotions right now. Emotions cloud judgment; its a law of human nature.
False equivalency it often used to minimize severity while bringing down others to their level; its two birds with 1 stone.
USA Cable news channels are not all the same and if you can not see how much worse Fox "News" is than the rest then sadly, its not likely a logical person is going to educate you because you are just too pathetic and likely will just more strongly BELIEVE the fallacy when presented with fact and logic.
We need a false advertising lawsuit against Fox "news" - propaganda is just too dangerous a weapon to let it get used unregulated. It only gets more sophisticated over time and I expect it to kill democracy and liberty someday - its already begun and most don't have a clue.
This is a GOOD THING. Usually corporations intentionally ignore or even fail to research the harm of their devices; not only have they found out there is potential harm but they are ACTING on it by warning people. Yes, this is likely due to lawsuits but for a change they are actively trying to avoid them instead of spending money on P.R. and fake think tanks to protect themselves after problems are found by the public like most large corporations do today. BP comes to mind as an extreme example.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
NO LAW ABRIDGING FREE PRESS! IT IS CLEAR! That means no law can "abridge" publishing of the press. period. Its not vague; its the logical extreme. You can NEVER trust politicians (lawyers) to draw lines on important things.
A soldier agrees to restricted speech and can be punished for breaking that agreement; also, they are less than citizens, the gov owns their ass despite all the effort they make give a false impression.
Better to die leaking the truth to the public than die for a politician's lie.
Government officials are super citizens, they have power beyond that of citizens and they WORK FOR THE PUBLIC. With that power, they must agree to extra restrictions or not be allowed to get the job.
Your boss has every right to monitor EVERYTHING you do at work outside the restrooms. If you don't like it, then you don't get the job.
Anything officials do that is work related should be documented. If they work from home, then they lose that privacy as well. If they sleep with the enemy that should be on tape somewhere; someday it could possibly be declassified but if something bad comes up then the judge needs to be aware of relevant facts.
The President doesn't have more eyes on him, our media just stares at his groin and does not notice or think about his actions-- just repeat press statements from a few sides (without fact checking) and maybe speculate about meaningless reality TV topics; often not even putting much thought into the irrelevant rumor "analysis".
Government is your responsibility and a democratic representative government like the USA has is even MORE tied to its public. If it sucks it is your fault.
Government run by and for the corporations is no longer the same form of government and it is also your fault for giving up to their influence -- and its those forces who have incentive to break government so they can clean up the messes they create while blaming government for their actions and demotivating people from taking back control.
Politicians are limited in their power to do what they want, so they crave MORE power to do what they want (good or bad, selfish or selfless.)
To get this, they need to MOVE UPWARD to HIGHER positions not merely maintain their current position.
Naturally, the greedy corrupt ones will want more money which is usually related to how high they can get; but not necessarily. The higher up the less likely your crimes will be punished or prevented...
Term limits would encourage MORE upward movement than we already have; it wouldn't stop all the problems we have.
Sometimes we have a GREAT politician who isn't killed (or dies in an "accident") and I do not think it is worth losing them just to stop a few entrenched crooks. If you haven't noticed, its easy for crooks to win in our system and honest people are not likely to even get elected in the 1st place.
Government can't mess with corporations; they are the dominant institutions not the peoples' government (what it used to be.)
"Government just needs to leave corporations alone to do the right thing and compete for goodness..." How could people believe this stupid shit and NOW after all this mess the corporations have caused how can they still have so many supporters??
The officials do not count because their job is to bow to the corporate interests while whitewashing the problems to the public.
FYI: Prayer actually lowers the odds of getting better.
Acupuncture works, BTW - obviously not for every claim made just as many "proven" drugs don't meet all their marketing claims (hence the small print as required by law-- although, not necessarily still correct since in the USA a lot of things get a pass until some class action lawsuits.)
This study is another re-affirming obvious study except that many people probably don't have the background to have already seen it. The subconscious is more powerful than most people realize - you can say "don't think of an elephant" but negatives and logic doesn't get recognized. You can give them all the experiences of a situation associated with being cured while telling them it is NOT real and the impact will be about the same as if they were lied to (if it doesn't work it likely wouldn't work if lied to either.) What this does is emphasize how we should have ROUTINE experiences with healing so we build the association at a more "primal" level which will increase the number of people it affects.
OUR airwaves, they belong to the public. Instead of 'we the people' managing OUR property rights we abdicate them and hand it over to a few monopolies who overcharge us for their "service" and take our money to corrupt any means by which we exercise our collective rights.
Bandwidth is limited due to it having to be divided between multiple monopolies. Each doesn't get fair use since characteristics of ranges of bandwidth differ greatly as well as POOR applications where company needs to use the wrong bandwidth.
If our roads were similarly handled (and built/designed/maintained) like the cell phones:
Ford drivers get a discount; that is, everybody else just pays more. Ford made a deal or owns the road.
Nobody is allowed to drive to WikiLand.
You'd pay per minute or per mile on the road; naturally, you'd not mind being tracked by radio the whole time by your car. Fast drivers trying to save money (but wasting just as much in gas) cause more accidents. SUVs thrive as potholes are now profitable because they slow people down increasing the per-minute fees.
You'd pay a monthly usage fee as well as disconnection and connection fees; probably 3 kinds: service on/off "processing" fee, on/off ramp fee, and a toll booth fee for non-subscribers. There are many ways to hide such additional fees but they'd exist - it could be like your credit card fee of 1-2% + transaction fee where you pay it all the time and don't know it IN ADDITION to the late fees.)
You'd be x-rayed for "your own security" or to "think of the children" and naturally BILLED for your packages for freeloading on their road 'network' unless they can identify you have RFID tags from Walmart who'd have kickback payments so their products get special treatment. This "package inspection" policy initially is met with strong resistance but ultimately would become accepted by the public as they buy items from companies who pay the fees over ones who do not.
You'd pay for all expansions and repairs; Fed-Ex and other shippers who wear the roads more will pay nothing because they made deals... OR Fed-Ex merged and gets it free so you can't use UPS without paying higher fees.
Your taxes would go up, naturally, economic blackmail in addition to political lobbying would force the local people to pay for as much as possible while the owners increase profits from said efforts as well as KEEPING everything paid for. Best case, they get zero interest loans from local government (which actually costs you money due to inflation, its actually a negative interest loan.)
Small fees gets roads named after products, movies, companies, ceos, etc. The names change more often.
The Fed-Ex highway is for shipping, you are an afterthought so they get right of way and if you disrupt them in any way you get a huge fine; during xmas you can't drive there.
Trespassing is not allowed; government punishes you. no protests or ignoring their fees.
Power, Gas, Water, Sewer costs go up. Fees for repairing them. Living costs go up even though you don't drive.
Don't drive? Your friend pays more because you are freeloading by getting a ride; or being unable to ID you causes both of you to be kicked off the highway.
Poor? Underpayed? Unemployed? tough. Sell your car for money. take the bus.... which costs more since they must pay extra to use the road...subsidizes for buses go up= taxes go up.
Finally, they'd have public policy campaigns for pollution or incentive for light weight cars as benefits them and placates local governments but actually costs them nothing and the effectiveness of the programs is NOT important whatsoever; its smokescreen. You know, like the energy saving programs by the power monopolies in your area. Its a game for suckers.
You are off base, the member nations all have corruption and their corrupt influences on the UN are minimized or nullified by the other members.
NOT doing something due to being made ineffective is not corrupt; sure the people preventing action are corrupt but the organization being vetoed by a minority does not make it corrupt; its not effective etc. but not corrupt until its working towards those bad ends with a motive.
My argument is that the UN doesn't need to get involved in the corruption because it is unable to act strongly against the truly powerful who can just render it useless without taking it over. So smaller things can be done and even large oppositions can be made public even if nothing concretely is accomplished. It has helped to illustrate situations; like the Iraq war scam and made it more difficult to legitimize that war (except for American suckers) but failed to prevent it.
I didn't say they are free from corruption; no large organization is - when they have people get caught it helps; if they had a "perfect" record then there would need to be more concern about them.
Democrats have to oppose corporations while simultaneously not upsetting too many of them because that is how they stay in office. The system produces the problem - the issues involving fixing the system are unresolved in the SAME way because again they don't want to be caught biting their corporate masters or be seen failing to completely eliminate the masters' influence in one massive stroke (which is the only way many would even have the courage.) They are the people party but must bow to corporate dominance at the same time (as well as corporate influence on the pop culture.)
Republicans practically brag about selling out; it has become almost a religion (mammon) to their side and they preach it as justification on idealistic grounds. They do this more than they exploit religion. Blasphemy and hypocrisy mean nothing except when used by the opposition then somehow they can recognize it again. Rove's strategy which isn't new but he formalized and popularized it is just what he said early on - create alternative realities and disregard the concept of an actual reality; I remember him saying it. Its based heavily around COGNITIVE DISSONANCE (read a book on it; wikipedia/google just barely grasp it) and plays on the fact people believing in something only increase the strength of their beliefs when contradicted by FACTs. The Democrats haven't learned about this stuff yet, they still try to counter with reason and facts; they are not playing in the same league (not intentionally, I think that HOPE thing did tread into this realm but I don't think they even know why it worked.)
The difference couldn't be more stark; however, if one was to play good cop vs bad cop this would be the approach we would have. Well, ok, we could have 1 party be honest... that would be more stark until they all got booted from office. The 'cops' don't need to be part of such a conspiracy in order to do this. One reason the election system and press 'system' are bent towards a simplistic 2 party left/right false dialemma is that it provides a consistent predictable method of control. Only the two parties need to be manipulated and played against each other using similar tactics decade after decade like some blockbuster movie formula they keep recycling (along with 2 sequels.) This is one reason you won't see the USA move to a fair election process and the GOP will heavily oppose it and not enough lawyers on the other side will dare support it.
OpenGL has to please a large group with more uses than just games; it is done with input from the wide range of developers that use it. Its open, more democratic.

(sarcasm- see Vincent van Gogh)
Oh, do any of you find yourself spouting off about education because you were a student??

The stupid maybe can't be educated; however, the criminal can and have been reformed and that is a known fact.
Turn on your brain and stop with the primitive beliefs go to politicalcompass.org and THINK.
You are not a professional programmer until you realize that most the work is debugging.
"Government just needs to leave corporations alone to do the right thing and compete for goodness..."
How could people believe this stupid shit and NOW after all this mess the corporations have caused how can they still have so many supporters??

This was fun, add your own.
I didn't say they are free from corruption.
I didn't say they are free from corruption; no large organization is - when they have people get caught it helps; if they had a "perfect" record then there would need to be more concern about them.
citing wikipedia isn't that wise.
