the difference is that people bookmark the "Large Hardon Collider", but tend to "Block images from this Site" the first time they hit goatse and vow never to make the same mistake again...
We need all the exposure we can get. Tell your family. Tell your friends. Tell your coworkers. If you're a student, get it distributed at your college. Submit a story to Slashdot and other news sites about the release. Make some noise on your blog. Spread the word!
Knuth's books are great... if you can afford them and hack the math.;-P I have picked up some good algorithms from the ASM web site too, but mostly by fumbling around and filing ideas for later.
I just installed RH8.0... so you guys are saying there two different windows managers!?!
but seriously folks... you talk to any ten Linux user about what would make a killer new GUI and you'll get ten different responses, half of which will be incompatible.
Any software in active development is bound to have problems. The question left up to the user is: are the problems big enough to warrant a switch or can I hold out till they get fixed. Sadly user become entrenched and just prefer to gripe about other alternatives.
The previous post's highlights the hypocrisy of such campaigns against p2p on many college campuses. Given the expense to a school, for all I know audit could be used as retaliation for not renewing software agreements.
It's just more fodder for those promoting a switch to open software.
Why the requirements put this elevator in the middle of the ocean?
The main reason is so they could move it around. If, for example, a storm came. Lightning is by far the biggest danger to something like this. There is also the need to avoid orbiting satellites every so often.
Similar project have thought up in the past. The Pentagon toyed with the idea of replacing aircraft carriers with floating barges. Oil platforms that can be up rooted to avoid icebergs and hurricanes are the same idea.
I think you are right... just look at the recomendations:
We strongly recommend that management require Java to conform to the Software Development Framework especially from the standpoint of ARCreview. Both PSARC and LSARC have dealt with the Java issues peripherally, recognizing numerous problems but unable to effect change in the underlying source of the difficulties - namely Java. By bringing the Sun Java implementation through ARC, these issues can be resolved.
The question is, will this solve Java's problems?!
I am all for open developement. But I don't think that what aiming for.
You are certainly not doing any one any favors by supporting older browsers. For one thing they have security issues that are most likely not patched or no longer supported.

About the funnest thing I have ever seen was my cousin blowout his rear wind-shield with a potato gun and dirt diaper. You can imagine his surprise when it came out the wrong end of the canon... and the expression of horror at seeing his truck! All of my cousin where there to see it and it has become quite a family story.
After having rented more than a few movie while living in China. You can indeed get VCD movies FAST. However, you get what you pay for. Shoty sound, the mystery science theater effect, and s view of some one's backpack once the credit start to role...
I just hate when a movie is out of the theater by the time I get back to the states...
It is not the hardware it is the software.
Yes and no. Linux developers will choose to develop for Table PCs because the hardware is cool and users have wanted Linux because the developers of new ideas test them out on Linux.
Just because Microsoft would have you believe handwriting recognition was developed starting with the XP for Tablet PC does not mean Linux lacks handwriting recognition. Turn off the TV and explore your options a little...
Granted for handwriting recognition the work is being done in Chinese and Japanese. But that is where the fun problems are!
