    You presumed that gambling is a bad thing and that buying insurance is gambling. Neither is correct.

    Gambing is fine - if the odds are in your favor. I.E. If someone offers you a 2:1 odds in favor of Ron Paul being president, TAKE THE BET!

    Failing to buy insurance for large purchases, such as a car or home is not only gambling, but the odds are not in your favor. You should do it because the set amount of money each month is more than worth the hell you go through if you need the insurance and don't have it.

    I do agree that most warranties are a bad bet.

    If you can't add, you can't buy things.

    If you can't multiply / divide , you can't run a business.

    If you don't know anything about combinatorix (odds), you get suckered by any form of gambling, including insurance, warranties and the stock market.

    If you don't understand exponential math, you can't become wealthy.

    But such a solution would not be a GOOD solution. The proposed solution is far worse than the crime a few people have committed.

    Similarly, Pay Pals' actions are far worse than the complaint of higher charge backs.

    Here, I have another solution: Figure out how many charge backs are common in a single year. Add one to that number, call it "the C Limit". Pay pal simply states that any book that has reached it's C limit can not be paid for using Pay Pal.

    But that means actual WORK has to be done by Pay Pal.

    Natural gas is currently cheap largely because we don't use it. It is much harder to store and transport than oil.

    Natural gas cars tend to have half the mileage of a gasoline car. Better than electricity, but it is still less efficient energy storage than gasoline.

    Of course, it is still a fossil fuel. That means there is a limit on how much exists and also that it pollutes, though not as much as gasoline does.

    The only problem is extracting it. Right now, it makes more sense to mine dirt then it does to shread and melt down all the cellphones and computers and heat distill the molten metals.

    Mainly because the mines have single pure metals, as opposed to a mix of all the valuable stuff. heat distilling molten metals is too expensive - today.

    A good engineer could very well change that.

    Cripes, the main reason we do such a good job of recyclying steel is that it is magnetic.

    1) Will people be required to own/carry the cell phone?

    2) Will people be legally prevented from removing the battery?

    Because I would do one of those things if I found out someone was tracking everyone with them. Yeah, I know the US government has the power to track us, but they don't do it all the time.

    Frankly, I have no idea why so many idiots think they have to take each and every call right away. I see no problem with letting a call/text go to voicemail and getting back to them on MY schedule.

    Coffee shops will probablynot use this. They overcharge so much for coffee and use free wifi to attract people.

    Particularly as electricity is very cheap and I bet the outlets cost at least $30 a shot. It would take an awful lot of electricity to make that up, even if they overcharged for it.

    Airports however are fee crazy and may very well charge for this. In particular, as their user base is trapped and also has fewer 'repeat customers', they can easily set it up with an account opening fee of some kind so they trememdously over charge you.

    But there is a lot more competition for free wifi at places like Starbucks and Burger King, that it makes more sense to give it away as a 'loss leader".

    That is, weld an M134 minigun on it, and have it carry just the gun and the ammo.

    Then put a soldier behind it and let him fire the weapon. You get the certainity of a human presence & control, the high firepower and ammo capacity of the M134, all on the ground, capable of close quarters urban combat in buildings. (Not to mention that it would probably deafen everyone within 50 ft.)

    The simplest, best, way for a woman to use an online dating service is to NEVER respond to emails.

    Instead she should initiate contact herself.

    This way she:

    1. Eliminates any douchebag that doesn't let a women initiate contact.

    2. Ignores all the douchebags emailing everyone.

    3. Is less likely to be fooled by someone customizing their email to her profile.

    Note, this only works because other women are not emailing men. Everyone wants to be pursued - even the woman that call themselves dominant. But that idea simply works BADLY online. Too many men doing the pursuing.

    It also takes a woman smart enough to realize that emailing a guy doesn't make her overly aggressive. Hell, even if you are a kinky submissive on an "adult" web site you can still email a guy in a submissive way. It's about what you say, not who wrote first.

    Any person with a single serious disease has to get personalized medicine.

    I am constantly bombarded by idiots telling me things like "eat less carbs", but my personal medical issues makes eating more protien worse for my body than eating carbs.

    ALL medicine should be personalized - not just for your genes, but for your particular conditions.

    Yes. Anything over 1000 meters is overkill if you care about impact.

    But if you also want to demonstrate the ability to continue to work when exposed to excess radiation/sunlight and lower air pressure, then the "edge of space" drop makes more sense.

    1. Morons started advertising "unlimited" downloads. They never should have done that. You can't offer unlimited of something unless it is OK if most people actually take the maximum possible amounts. Because if you advertise something as unlimited then the people that need unlimited come to you.

    2. Then they continued to try and use the word unlimited while they limited stuff. NO. Lying is not allowed.

    3. They need to be honest and advertise three things: A "Peak Speed" for first x data/month. B "Reduced speed for rest of y data/month. C. Price.

    4. Once you list these things then consumers can make real judgements - both the high end data hogs and the average user.

    But they don't want to do that. They would rather keep everything nebulous and get clients by who picks the better advertising campaign instead of better service.

    It's designed to be flexible - to let the Dungeon Master House Rule. But they give little guidance of power balance. There is always a tendency to come out with new, slightly more powerfull stuff, or worse yet, 'combos' of rules created by two different writers that were never tested together. DM's are not experts (no matter what they think). They need to not just know what rules are optional, but ALSO what new rules are high powered, what are on the weak side, - both the normal stuff and the optional stuff. More importantly they need more guidelines to help them judge what things should work together and what should not.

    1. Outlaw password expiration. Instead replace with a system that notifies you of the last time and location you logged in. Not by email (spam) - but as the first page you log in. Your home locks don't expire, nor do they keep a determined thief out. Their main purpose is to tell you someone broke into your house because the lock is punched out of the door. Passwords should act the same way.

    2. Outlaw passwords for things that don't need passwords at all. I.E. news sites.

    3. For sites that need a password, but not a secure one (like Slashdot), use minimal password system - i.e. you give them 9 things (food/music/etc.) you hate, plus one you like and when you log on, select which the thing you like, that are confirmed by a permanent cookie on your PC. If the cookie gets erased/you use a new PC, they email you a new cookie.

    4. For things that need a secure password, outlaw the top 1000 most popular passwords. If people try to use them, say Not allowed, too easily guessable. If they use one from the top 100, give an insulting warning message, such as "a 40 year old atari computer could guess that password in 10 seconds"

    5. Teach people to use password algorythms: i.e. base password of 6 letters/numbers + 1 additional letter found in your username + 1 from the website's url. (i.e. Pa55w0 + 2nd letter from my usrename + 3rd letter from website. For Slasdot that would be Pa55w0ua

    Some of that is true. But the terms right, left, moderate are all relative. More importantly, there is more than the right-left divide, there is also a authority-libertarian divide - and the Democrats are by far MORE libertarian (with the exceptio of that Crazy guy Ron Paul) than the GOP which is very authoritative. They made a PR mvoe to appeal to libertarians - and got Ron Paul, a real libertarian. Then the GOP gets upset that their libertarian members vote for a libertarian candidate, at refuse to vote for anyone else.

    But I see a more important problem with what you said. Most of it (except for the 'end to foreign wars - which I think is a silly idea) is jargon that doesn't mean anything.

    That is EVERY politician I know of will support "decent healthcare", "fair taxes", and a "level playing field". Those words are meaningless generalities - and both sides use them to mean directly opposite solutions. The Democrats think healthcare reform means ensuring that everyone gets healthcare. The GOP thinks Healthcare reform means getting the government out of healthcare. Same for everything else.

    You want a political party that represents your beliefs? Try being a lot clearer about what they are.

    P.S. An end to foreign wars sounds like a great idea - till you meet the next Hitler. And no, Obama/Santorum are not the next Hitler. N. Korea might be enthroning one right now. And that means that no, WWII was not the last good war - Ask anyone in either Korea that is not mourning the death of their dear dictator. Ask anyone in Kuwait that is not embroiled in Iraq's mess.

    But 10-12 years for a kidney? Tell that to a kid with kidney problems. Cripes, tell it to a 40 year old man.

    Pacemakers is a better surgery, but still - 7 years is not enough. Short term fixes.

    Medical doctors know how to do the following VERY well:

    Cut into your body, remove things you don't need, without killing you.

    Sew you back up.

    Set bones - with or without surgery

    Kill infections

    Figure out what is killing you

    Cut into your body and move things around (i.e. plastic surgery,

    Tell you which activities/things are bad for you - particularly if they first diagnosed you with a specific issue.

    If you ask them to do much more than that, you get temporary fixes. Kidney transplants, pacemakers, etc. all have a relatively short life expectancy.

    Because we all know the phones get thrown out every couple of years and any money you spent on apps has to be redone.

    OK, I might accept a 10 cent transfer fee - if you promise to update all your apps for all OS within 6 months of OS intro.

    Not a kindle, but the Nook (in part because I like to keep the books I download, as opposed to have Amazon 1984'em back.)

    It is well designed and works well with the product. The light (purchased seperately from Medge) works well with both.

    Just because they are accessories does NOT take away their contractual rights or patent rights. Medge came out with products superior to Amazons, and Amazon should not have the right to change the contract after it was signed, let alone steal Medge's superior design.

    Is to have a company cafeteria that gives away the healthy food free and charges you normal prices for the junk food.

    No need to adjust the paycheck - that is just stupid. You end up giving 1/3 to 1/2 the benefit to the government via taxes, and have to institute a complex tracking system.

    Graph reading is an incredibally important part of science. It is often how the results are portrayed which means how the science is figured out and learned. If you cheat on your graphs, you can trick people into thinking false things are true.
