Another risk in laser eye surgery is extreme dryness.

THIS. The laser surgical outlets downplay it, but if you drill down in their statistics you can find something interesting.

I was offered laser surgery (femto-lasik if I recall correctly) but asked to see some numbers. As you would expect, right after the procedure you have a high in side effects, and then it slowly drops. Now, I don't remember the numbers exactly, but something like 30% experienced dry eyes 2 years after the procedure! I asked for numbers after 3 or 4 years, but they said they stopped keeping statistics after 2. No doubt, if you don't want to know the answer, you shouldn't ask the question..

Perhaps something new and revolutionary will come along in a few years, I sure could use something..

SMILE looks promising. Smaller incision = fewer nerves damaged = hopefully not so dry eyes.

Plex is a company making a software called Plex Media Server, or PMS og Plex for short.

It is installable on a wide variety of platforms, including windows, mac and linux.
The server indexes your collection of movies, tv-series, music, photos and home videos, and you can access it through a Plex Client on your computer, your smart tv, ios-device, android-device, apple tv, roku etc, and it can transcode the content (convert on the fly) in to a more suitable format for the client you are using.

The client even has offline support, so you can sync content to your tablet before a long flight. It's way easier than it used to be to get a bunch of mkv-files onto an ipad for example.

You can also share your media library (or parts of it) with other plex-users. So why not give grandma access to the photo library of her grandchildren? Great way to keep in touch.

It really is a nifty piece of software.

Sure, it's been this way for some time, and various houses have used different sizes, and that makes it even more important to use actual sizes, not phony ones.

On an unrelated note, I found a cheap bottle of whisky that had a prominent "12" on the label. Naturally one would assume that this meant aged for 12 years, but nowhere does it say years. Could be weeks :-)

    Actually, there is.

But think of this: Someone with malicious intent finds out that granny is going to fly. They tell her that "look, you don't have long left to live anyway, Smuggle something aboard this aircraft and nothing will happen to your grandchildren".
Everyone could be coerced into this. Doesn't even have to smuggle it onto your own aircraft, just past the checkpoint and hand it off to someone else who will use it on another aircraft. Granny gets to see her grandchildren again, some other plane with complete strangers has an accident.

Everyone should have the exact same scrutiny at the airport, healthy or ill, young or old. Because if we create a loophole it can be exploited.
