you're referring to the "value." Cost does not detract from the machine's performance, or features, just from those not willing to pay for it. The value is in all the foward technology, i.e. built in bluetooth, wireless, microphone, firewire 400/800, usb 2.0, DVI... Now, as a note, Macs don't have the "Ghz" game won, but then again, neither does AMD, but they are still capable. All the Giga-whatever talk asside, you need to consider one other thing, it uses another OS, which is optimized for a specific group of machines. I bought a mac about a year ago, it was not "cutting-edge" for more than 3 months, but it's still as capable as the day I bought it, actually, the newer OS runs faster than the last. The machines probably have a slower "turn-over" than x86, you just don't notice because so many vendors are out there releasing the newer, faster stuff everyday. The iMac is great, but they do have to release a new rev every once in awhile to keep the PC switchers and Ghz-geeks happy. I have a lot of friends happily using 3-4 year old macs with OS X... can you do that on x86?
you will be able to BUY music from the iTMS with the next generation of iPods (WIRELESSLY). I could go into more speculation, but I think most of you will agree.
Why did the author of this blurb call the people cause with camcorders in theaters "victims" of the new law. You people are rediculous. It's THEFT, now there's just a law to allow criminal prosecutions. If a person shoots someone else, and gets caught, are they a "victim" of the laws against assult? You want movies, pay for them (note to hollywood, $8 is semi-rediculous).
agreed.
1) They know they can charge $40-ish a month, and get it.
2) Dial-up actually has competition, in most locales, cable has (maybe) one or two competitors, if you're lucky. In a lot of cases, your choice is them, or nobody.
The student radio, after being reduced to pirate radio had to make the move to all internet streaming. CRAP! But, and I haven't listened to the station in years, you can check it out at "underground.fm"
A guess, no more, no less

My GUESS...
more like $80 opening, $40 closing by the end of the first week of Google trading, mid $20s, where it will stablize.. Or, if we geeks have anything to say about it... $60.22 (think about it...) or $31.415 (decimals shifted to adjust to a possible real world value of G00G stock.) This is like a dotcom, but they have been "developing" for a bit longer, so they might not crash 'n burn maybe.

my roommate was a die-hard Quark user (been in the paper business since he was 15). He started using InDesign last week, wouldn't ever go back to Quark again, you can even set the key-bindings to respond like you're using Quark.
Actually, when purchasing music from the iTMS, you enter a contract with Apple, one which says you will not circumvent their DRM. It is illegal to remove it, the OP on this topic has it right. and I hope PlayFair disappears, it's irresponsible to distribute this software, because it's PRIMARY purpose is to circumvent the DRM. This is different than the DeCSS case, where the purpose was to play the DVD on any platform you chose, but rather to remove the DRM altogether. I make note that napster existed because "we can't get the music online. if the record industry would offer songs at a reasonable cost, we would gladly pay." Well, now they have (and with lots of effort by Apple) and we've got people circumventing it, $1 is reasonable, anyone complaining about that never planned on paying for music in the first place. Take a look at tuneyard.com and you'll realize that recording artists really DO have talent and amateurs are just that, amateur. So suck it up, and let it go, Apple has been very civil about this issue. Finally, any comment which starts out saying "The RIAA is ALWAYS wrong, and DRM is NEVER ok!" is misinformed. Like the iPod says out of the box "Don't steal music." This a delicate balance, and PlayFair is not fair to FairPlay.
Hmm, I know where all the letters are coming from.

kernel 2.4? WHAT!? why does EVERYTHING need to run linux? why does it need an OS as such, and how long until people start stealing them to "hack"?
