How? By having a listing of available programs. Perhaps grouped and sorted by genre or alphabetical or even user defined. Click the button and watch.
With the digital cable I have now you can do a search for sports, movies, or even type in a name. You look through it and if you see something you like you just open it up and it gives you the times it is playing and you can click a reminder if it's going to be on in an hour or whatever. Instead of that it could just play right off.
Slots are already a very low payout, something like 5-10% of what is paid into them.
Actually that's very wrong. Many slots pay out 98%-99% and advertise as such. So you lose $1 for every $100 you bet. Just think Office Space scams...volume, volume, volume.
Actually money does not motivate. Money reduces the dissatisfaction one has with a job. It does not increase the satisfaction one has with a job. Money given as a raise (but only a merit based raise) can increase satisfaction but as a result of the recognition, not the money itself. If you were an underarm deodorant smell-tester (specially designed for gamers:)) that made $200,000 you would most likely do enough not to get fired. But it would not motivate you to go above and beyond your job duties (whatever they may be *shiver*).
Much like seeing people write out something like this (which I see constantly), "I should of taken out the garbage." Damn that one irks me..almost as much as when people spell out "Chow" as their signoff on an email. Of course I'm sure there is some grammar mistake in this posting just by the sheer fact I'm criticizing others' grammar. Sue me!
Hmmmm...this is off-topic? Pretty UIs = Good. Ugly UIs = Bad
OK...California is definitely an exception. I lived in S. Lake Tahoe for a bit and purposely lived on the Nevada side so I didn't have to deal with CA taxes. But what if they bumped up your income tax to like 7% and eliminated sales tax altogether? Would you prefer that? They don't need to raise and lower by the same percentage since they are getting it when it comes in, not just when and if it gets spent on taxable items. Plus if the state has no sales tax, the people in that state will probably buy from local businesses instead of online businesses because they can get it NOW. The shipping/sales tax trade-off isn't made. And that generates more income for that local business. More of your money is staying at home thus generating higher revenues for the state. Mind you these numbers are completely pulled from my ass and have no basis in fact. But I'd like to see a study that outlines the online buying habits of consumers in a state with no sales tax.
And maybe this doesn't affect you, but public colleges (University and CC level) are soooo much cheaper in Cali than just about anywhere else. I remember taking a class in a CC in California, but since I was a Nevada resident I had to pay $36/credit (which is the cost of the equivilent class in a Nevada CC), Cali residents paid $9/credit. UCs are also VERY cheap when compared to other state run universites. And those include some pretty damn good schools. I grew up in NorCal and I could swear a friend of mine that went to UC Davis paid something a little over $2000/year in tuition. That's ridiculously low! Of course this was close to 10 years ago, so considering California's mess nowadays it could be drastically different.
I believe New Hampshire has no sales tax either. They don't have income tax to boot. I have no idea where they get their money frankly.
I've always been in favor of killing the sales tax altogether and just implement an income tax. Or for those states that have income tax, increase it a little. Then you don't have this problem and it's not a regressive tax like the sales tax is. Here in Washington we have no income tax but our sales tax is at or above 8.8% (dpending on where you live exactly). Tax at a restaurant in Seattle is at 9.2%! Just get rid of that and tax me on 5% of my income or whathaveyou. Plus I can claim that against my fed taxes, I can't do that with sales tax.
such as "synergy," "paradigm," and "financial viability."
I heard a lot of "synergy" and "paradigm" five years ago, but I don't think the terms "financial viabilty" were bandied about. Unless of course you are speaking of a lack thereof.:)
If everything in this world is just based on particles and objects(just big masses of particles) reacting to other particles and objects then one could postulate that the gravitational force of the planets did indeed have an effect on said person's life. This might also suggest that there is no free will. We're just a bunch of random reactions.:) Not that I believe this, I just like to throw this out every so often. But why not...it would seem fairly plausible. The given is the fact that we completely understand physics. That's a pretty big given.
I see your point. Because I know how often I rely on tactile sense when I'm dialing my phone or trying to get to my voicemail while driving...errr...I mean when I'm pulled to the side of the road. The raised screen or whatever would have to be added for sure. An added feature would be voice interaction where you could just say "delete." I just worry about those people around you in a restaurant saying "delete" all night long.:) But it would be a good option while driving or whatnot. And that's obviously available as I know how I hate those help lines that tell you to speak into the phone instead of hitting a certain number on the dialpad. I feel like such an asshat when I'm in the middle of a quiet office and it sounds like I'm talking to myself.
How about a keyboard that picks up your eye movements. No more repetitive stress injuries...well not for your wrist anyway...just your eyes.:) Actually I'm pretty sure they have this sort of thing for quadriplegics.
I've always wondered about touch screen pads. Why can't you have a phone that is the same form factor but is essentially just a touch screen? And depending on what you want to do it shouws you a numberpad, keyboard of your choice or handwriting recognition.
I think the idea is that by pressing a number you are essentially pressing all four letters that surround that number at the same time and it interprets it as that number. That's how I see it it anyway. It does seem like a bit of a kludge no doubt, but I couldn't really say until I used it. It also seems to work under the assumption that everyone's fingers are the same size.
I do agree with the idea that there is no reason to integrate Outlook with the other apps. Unfortunately nothing similar to Outlook (in functionality) is out there, as far as I have found anyway. I love Evolution myself, but it's not been ported to Windows. All I want is something that can hold my contacts, email and a freakin' calendar all in one. That's all. How come it's not out there in the Windows world? I did see something today called Aethera by the KDE people. They say it will come to Windows, but it's not out there yet. If anyone has suggestions, I'd love to hear them (other than, "Stop running WinBlows"). And I don't want one program for my calendar and contacts and one for email.
Are you serious? I try to avoid all ATMs that aren't part of my bank and especially those that aren't part of a bank at all since they seem to have the most outrageous fees. And those also seem to be easily the most low-tech too. I generally go to maybe two different ATMs and it's really the basic stuff (I don't get out of town much). The most feature rich thing I see is: English or Espanol.
I guess it's just another case of advertising becoming so fscking omnipresent. Because that ad really doesn't improve my customer experience or serve my needs much. This ATM, brought to you by: Kleenex. Or maybe an ad for every bill that comes out of the machine?
Exactly...this was the part that made no sense to me.
Also, it's so ubiquitous that they can add features to all their ATMs without having to write multiple pieces of code for different machines.
What features do you need? Is it going to have a media player...you play some tunes while you're getting a quick $20? Or better yet(for the bank), how about some radio-like advertisements? Or perhaps, "It looks like you are trying to get money." Or if it's really smart, "It looks like you are trying to complete a drug deal." (Yes, I realize that's Office and not Windows, get a sense of humor!) The only thing I would think could be useful would be some sort of spoken interface for accessibility. But then again that may be why I'm where I am at and not running a bank.:)
I vaguely remember a concept in economics (or I could just be making it up, that class was a long time ago) that said something to the effect that the "fair price" for a given item is something like the retail price minus the the value of the stolen amount. Essentially, how much revenue has that product brought in and then divide that by the number of copies that have been bought and stolen.
Sure Sony has sold 10,000,000 copies of Britney's latest album at $20/CD (for easy math), but there are 5,00,000 more copies that have been burned for friends, downloaded from Kazaa and shoplifted from CD stores. $200,000,000 in revenue divded by 15,000,000 copies. The "fair price" would be $13 and change. Perhaps this theory is completely baseless and wrong, but I like it.:)

So gambling and drinking supports UNH? Makes sense...I know that's the bulk of what I did in college. So I guess it's a closed system. *grin*

Actually to correct you just a little bit, the CD was out, it's just that no one cared...
My thoughts exactly...less access to an obscure artist...what a brilliant career move...
Although it probably wasn't much of his decision but is in his deal with the devil^H^H^H^H^Hrecord company.
That we know of...

Ooops...I spoke to soon, there is a Windows version of Aethera. I'm gonna try it out right now!

they're talking about "lottery tickets and soft drinks"
Oh no...does that mean I'll also have to bang the front of the ATM to get my cash out along with my soda?
