And here in Washington State if you propose an Initiative for the ballot, it must only have one part to it. If there are two, it will generally be ruled as unconstitutional. As well it should. Just ask Tim Eyman. It would be nice if the same were done with the U.S. Congress. Perhaps stop some of the bloat in the budget. Although, they may just concern themselves more with their pet projects and less with actual legislation.
I don't know what Logo is, but your post reminded me of my "Intro to Programming", Turtle Graphics!
Ditch that laptop and bring in an ol' C64 or a Vic20, whichever you prefer, with Turtle Graphics and watch that turtle go!
But seriously folks, I think a cool demonstration would be to show some simple source code, run the program. Then show them what you are changing and show them how that changes the program when you run it again. Show them that "you can do whatever your imagination let's you do." I agree that drawing is probably a good choice...
Huh. I don't remember typing out the word idolize. In fact I believe I said something quite to the contrary. Perhaps I need to reread my own post...oh wait, no...that's you...
I generally can't stand Courtney Love but she had a pretty good speech and quote about this whole thing:
"How can pirates steal money from artists when the record companies have already stolen it all?"
Huh? Perhaps it's just a Seattle thing, but I regularly spend upwards of $7.50/pound for coffee beans. The really good stuff is up around the $10 mark. We're not talking Folger's here. *gags* Now I think I'll be off and enjoy some of my $10 coffee...
I personally like how it works in Washington State. It essentially is like a scantron form (and you don't even have to use No. 2 pencils!). You mark all your choices and slip into this locked reader dealie and presto! I once even accidentally marked two candidates for which only one could be marked. The machine that I deposited it into spit it back out at me telling me there was a mistake on my ballot. It didn't tell me what it was (that would be a nice improvement), but I figured it out quickly. I don't know how secure the whole process is, but once I receive the ballot it isn't touched by another rep until it is unlocked I guess. I'm also not sure if it counts the number of ballots only or if it also counts the votes you made too. To me this sounds like it could work well. A huge network of scantron forms and readers. Once you slip it into the reader it transmits the info to whatever database. Of course in backwater towns this might not be as feasible. But I like this solution since it still has a paper trail as well as an electronic component. The one problem with this is that you still have to visit a poll or get an absentee ballot.
I think it may be state to state, much like minimum wage. Or rather, there is a federal level but a state can change it if they want (only to a higher number though). I believe Washington State is at the $27 level as mentioned before. I worked at a smaller company and was labelled exempt. I made over $20/hr but under $27/hr. When they got around to hiring an HR person as they grew in size, she noticed this and immediately changed me back to non-exempt. WA state also has a much higher minimum wage and it increases annually, not just when approved, I think.
I know Verizon has an unlimited plan with CDMA 2000 for $79.99/month. Actual speeds are anywhere from 60-90kbps. I had to buy a $300 wireless card for my laptop. I'm not sure how it would work with a PDA since I connected using the card and not a phone.
But whatever you do...DO NOT get an HP 4100 MFP. You will regret the very thought of it if you do. It's got a good concept but it is easily the most awful execution of a concept that I have ever experienced. It is truly one bad machine. I wish for the day I can live out an "Office Space" experience with it. Perhaps it will get better over time, but don't be a alpha-tester for it as we are. Unfortunately a PHB thought this would be a time and money saver without even consulting an IT guy. He was sold this POS (and many of them at that) by a slick salesman I guess. If I had even been involved with this one iota I could have easily seen through this BS artist and his quasi-tech speak. BTW, I'm not a big fan of multi-function things like this either. They tend to be mediocre at a lot of different things. Not to mention the whole one point of failure thing. Ok...I should go before I blow a fuse over this beast of a product.
Let me start off by saying I know virtually nothing about the subject at hand. However, I do know that Cisco has a VoIP system that allows a user to have his or her phone extension no matter where they are in the world so long as they have "their" phone and a VPN connection. Perhaps they have a video phone or something along the same lines? Yeah, this is probably an expensive solution, but if you want robust and not "hacked" I'm sure Cisco can give it to you.
Oh boy did I lose a lot of money very quickly with that method. And it is because of the occurence of a long streak of the other color. I believe statistically speaking it doesn't matter if you switch colors or stick with one though. I think that is more of a mental game you play with yourself. The problem with this method is that you need unlimited funds. The really big problem is the fact that most roulette games have a maximum as well as a minimum so the multiple can only go up so high and you are bound to run into it sooner or later. That's when this method is shot to pieces. But given unlimited funds and no maximum it's infallible. Unfortunately that's just a fantasy world.:)
The problem with hiring someone who is over-qualified is that there is probably a good chance the person will get bored with the position and/or will eventually look for something better fairly soon. It's not that they think you can't do the job. They just don't want to have to turn around 6 months later to find someone else for the same job. The costs of hiring can be very expensive. Much more than keeping an employee for a longer period of time. If you took an admin assistant position (or whatever) just so you could have income, there's no doubt you would jump at the chance for something else that better suits you should it come along. In fact my guess is that you would be actively looking for something. They would rather hire someone that wants to be an admin assitant because they would most likely stick around a lot longer.
I've always been confused about the whole licensing scheme with RedHat's Enterprise Servers. They seem to have Microsoftian terms such as having the ability to audit the number of servers you have it on and such. Meaning they don't allow you to buy it and then throw it at every server you have. I've also wondered why you don't see copies of it all over the internet. Or do you? I really haven't been looking. That all seems anti-GPL which I can't understand how that is so?
I thought it was merely a typo. Do people actually use this phrasing? It sounds like some sort of business-speak to me. You know...don't make a decision...TAKE it! Along the lines of not considering a problem a problem, but rather an opportunity or some such BS.

Hmmm...I'm just imagining a world with this SQL Server filesystem on every desktop and the Slammer worm.

No...only how quickly they reject mine...
Perhaps they would be Abort, Retry, Fail?
How about the State of Iowa voting that the value of pi is 3? At least I think it was Iowa...
LightBULB? What do you mean? My whole home is lit by walls of taplights!

Someone needs to work on their cable management skills too. One word: velcro

I did the same about my Win2k Pro machine at home...Troll

Perhaps this link gives a bit of credibility to my statement.
My thoughts exactly! He's getting what he's paying for...;)

Doh! Mod grandparent down as -1, Dumbass
Jeremy? Is that you?
