the google folks are aware of the upcoming "australis" abomination and are not worried about firefox at all. [*sigh...*]
the firefox devs are crippling the addon system, crippling the customization system, removing the addon bar/status bar, blocking putting icons anywhere other than on the navigation toolbar, and generally ripping out the things that make firefox so completely customizable.
all this in the name of "simplicity" and "making customization more accessible to more users".
actually, it's being done in the name of stripping out things they don't like to maintain while still adding all that developer tools stuff that otta be in an extension.
i suspect that i will switch to seamonkey when australis comes out on firefox.
problems... - far too much wasted space the right-hand 3/5ths of the screen is taken up by non-story stuff. - even more wasted space i'm seeing a 2 cm wide border area on both the right and the left sides. why waste that space? - poor handing of text zoom i have poor vision and the site STILL goes wonky when the text zoom is set to anything higher than 100%. i usually browse at 120% or even 140%. - front page summaries are not shown that is also quite annoying in that i can't tell when someone has been ego-masturbating with the title. usually, the summary gives a hint about the quality of the title... and thus the article.
i'm running ff23.0.1 and it's using 1/4 gig right now. i've been online for several hours, visited/., 9gag, reddit, mozillazine, bbc, etc.... and still never more than an occasional blip up to a 1/2 gig. this is also a pretty tweaked profile with 50 [yes, really! [*grin*]] extensions.
folks who are seeing huge chunks of ram being used by firefox "while not doing anything" are seeing a _very_ different experience from mine. i always think of doing tech support... "no! i didn't install anything new!"... when i read things like those posts.

The rocket leaves without Harriman, who "looks as Moses must have looked, when he gazed out over the promised land." "
always makes me sad when i re-read that story. at least in "requiem" the old, soon-to-die harriman finally got to the moon.
the way other characterss interfered with the harrimans life dream of going to the moon is fairly similar to what this guy seems to have run into. not quite to the same degree, perhaps... [*grin*]

in addition to the chemicals mentioned above, _really_ cheap perfume works quite well. i use it to chase the danged feather rats [aka - pigeons] away from my bedroom window. my neighbor uses it to zap dogs and cats when he finds them mucking around with his plants. doesn't take much usually 4 units of water to one of el cheapo perfume. those pump action swimming pool guns work nicely.

as others have mentioned, text-only zoom breaks this new layout. the left side text block overlaps the left edge of the conversation display in ff3.x with text zoom [NOT "all" zoom, just text] set to anything above 110%. that makes/. unreadable for me since i can't see well enuf without a minimum 120% text zoom. i really prefer to use 140% text zoom. yes, i am a geezer. [*grin*]
12345... at 140% text zoom the 1st two chars of this line are whited out by the left hand display block.
plus, as others have also mentioned, the speed is even slower than the previous rather slow version. oh, well, i hope i can find a script over on userstyles.org to fix this mess... [*sigh...*]

so, when did the article title writer ever look over a contract? or set up a budget? or compare the actual costs of an item from multiple sources?
as others have pointed out subsidized DOES NOT necessarily equal cheap. it frequently equals really expensive when you include all of the costs.
