If new films are produced only in digital, it'll essentially kill the second-run theaters, leaving your choices an increasingly expensive show in a first-run theater or renting the video (also getting more expensive and of poorer quality).
Ever heard of DVD?:P
Actually, that could solve your problem...dunno how much good LCD projectors are (about $10k US?) but that + DVD would make sense (possibly even some form of Divx *shudder*)
Netscape is free as in beer, not speech (and it was one of the first "commercial" software to run in Linux).
Time for an open letter to Red Hat?

Red Hat Backlash?

I've been thinking about writing an open letter to Red Hat containing constructive criticism about its practices, business dealings etc. (Disclaimer: I use Red Hat, and I like it, but there are a few concerns I and many other users have) Anyone with any input (URLs of other letters, for example) feel free to email me (will try to respond, but have been occupied lately--no guarantee. Credit will be given if quoted).
Wouldn't worry about it...can always take the code & make a derivative distribution (Mandrake, BeRoLinux have already done this). Or even develop your own distro (even better--natural selection will decide which home-grown distro will take off).
/me thinks that ppl should read the article before replying (even if it knocks them down a little lower on the reply list)
That's the point of brand equity. A few additional examples:
The recipe for Rice Krispies Treats is public knowledge. You can make them at home yourself (don't even have to use Kellogg's Rice Krispies). Yet, Kellogg's STILL makes a killing selling Rice Krispies Treats in packages at the store, for an outrageous price.
Fast food: with a little time, one can make hamburgers & french fries at home, with any ingredient you want (ground turkey instead of beef). When was the last time you did that? Have you done it more often than going to your local McDonald's/Burger King/whatever?
I could go on and on, but the point is: even if/when IBM & Oracle decide to make their own distro, they'll still have to contend with the customers asking specifically for the Red Hat *brand* (the version officially supported by Red Hat and not their local knockoff).
Well, if the *content* is fair and unbiased, who gives a flying fig what company holds the domain? And I see it as a good move for VA Research (this is the same company that most of you were weeping over after the Dell/IBM announcements). Oh yeah, note that *no* distribution representatives (as far as I know) are on the board, and I pray that it stays that way (btw, I thought that you all were worried about Red Hat=Linux in the eyes of the PHBs?).
Let's see...*every* User Friendly is available (as opposed to the last month of Dilbert, with a 1-week delay). And the copyright of UF is less restrictive than that of Dilbert.
Also, UF mentions the terms "Open Source" and "Linux". UF loads faster (to me anyway).
I'll *try* to make it but...

A Friday night? Come on, some of us do try to have social lives.
I don't image it would take a very big EM-bomb to cause problems. All it takes is a small briefcase in the luggage compartment and *boom*!
Please explain this: if a terrorist can get a heavy package, filled with electronics, metal, and batteries past airport security...WHY (instead of using a conventional bomb) would he/she use an untested and unproven EMP bomb?
That's scary.
What I find even scarier is the gullibility of the American public to fall for such crap like this (I believe an article in the Crypt noted that the video cameras in the *car* were unaffacted by the "ray gun". To be fair, I didn't see the segment, so I don't know).
Cheap too. Cheap weapons never help me sleep at nights. And I'm only slightly paranoid.
Instead of BS HREF gun crap like this, worry about biological warfare (IMO, an even bigger threat and proven technology too).
All distros have their strengths and weaknesses... the best thing to do is use the one you're comfortable with, and if you advocate that particular distro, be willing to help others that use it as well. Also, if you have a problem with a particular distro, instead of bashing, try writing to the creator(s) and asking them why they decided to such-and-such a thing (instead of saying "They SUCK!!!!")
The web *will* be cleaned up because for every $ to be made on porn there is $100 to be made on everything else and porn is one thing that keeps the kids off the internet. Non porn marketers will demand that the web be cleaned up.
Thank you for wanting to repeal the First Amendment, and for forcing YOUR views down my throat. Now, explain how we define porn, and how we shut down every porn site in every country.
MS has (or had) at least two Linux servers running (linus.microsoft.com and egg.microsoft.com). Due to the Open Source nature of Linux and the GNU programs, it would be laughably easy for MS to come up with a "concept" Linux distribution (complete with an MS window manager, and maybe even a compatible version of Office). What is improbable is the outside world being able to obtain it.
Isn't that what GNOME is?

I hope you know that Slackware is a commercial distribution (like Red Hat, unlike Debian).

How will he know if everything will actually reboot? :P (Best to wait till others try it & see if they have any problems)

Great! (Assuming there will still be a civilization then :).

Criticism of electronic warfare, especially as portrayed by the media.

Oops, wrong thread
How so? Remember, India didn't sign the Wassenaar Agreement.
Who said anything about giving (l)users rights to compile/install software?
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/
Next time, try doing a search for Linux + Mandrake.

Second country listed. Someone forgot to tell the Wassenaar site that.
