Why? Red Hat has been the one distro that spearheaded Linux adoption in the enterprise. It's stable has very long support life cycle and if you do not want to pay licensing you can (and many startups do) use Centos.
I hear people complaining about rpm/yum. Guess what. Many of us have extensive experience with it and have no problems with it. Creating repo cache is fairly easy and allows you to have a total control of what is deployed to your server. And yes I do like dpkg and apt-get. They are very nice tools. The main reason I see ubuntu getting traction is because of RedHat making RHEL not available for download and because developers got their first steps in ubuntu. because "it's easier" and has a nicer "desktop".
I think RedHat needs to backpedal in Fedora/RHEL and go back to a single distro. Something like *Desktop/Developer edition (RHDE) and *Enterprise Edition (RHEL) and build a nice and focused distro with all the common repos already enabled in RHDE. So that newbies can have a better experience.
Developers need to easily get running thing need on a fresh build of (RHDE). Something like this:
yum install passenger-puppet-master (and bam!)
yum install maven
yum install django
yum install passenger-rails-app
yum install saltstack
yum install eclipse-openjdk-stack
Just a few samples but you get the idea. Make it easy for the developer and they will come.
If you really need those tools. Then go ahead and run Windows.
Most people don't need the Band name software. I have been happy using OpenOffice for many many years. It does what it needs to and it does it well. I just started using Google Docs and love the fact that all my docs are online and accessible all the time....
Now a days most end users only need : 1) Web browser with fast java script, HTML5 and Flash, 2) Skype. 3) Media player (VLC) A good Linux distro will satisfy most end users....

From 7 years to now. I been keeping my files on mirrored drives on storage servers (now a applianse that turns disks off if not in use to lower power usage and extend the life of my drives. Should last for a long time as I only use them a few times per week).
It's time to move my data from CD's into the appliance as they are getting close to EOD.
I switched from mythtv to PS3. Surprisingly it can do almost everything you are listing. It even supports playing DiX from a network drive.The one thing that bothers me is Hulu does not list all the shows in PS3 compared to a PC.
The first season as plain wrong and awful. Watched 2x9 and 2x10 last night they are getting much better. Now that the crew has control over Destiny and the top dogs made peace.

Once this is understood is very clear that Level 3 is (or any other) should pay any fee for data Comcast customers are requesting. It be a an other story if Level 3/Netflix was sending unrequested data on their own.
One could argue that if some were to pay a fee for using bandwidth it should be Comcast as you can say Comcast network is requesting very large amounts of bandwidth from Level3.
It's not technically stolen. We started by sending our manufacturing plants to China, higher Technical jobs, followed by Research jobs... Now China has l everything it needs to build new technology: Manufacturing + qualified labour + brains... Just yesterday i was thinking: Can US build a LCD with 100% us manufactured components... I'm thinking the answer is No.
As long as you own the CD. You LEGALLY downloaded the contents. It's only illegal for those who don't already own the album. This is were it gets fuzzy as is difficult to prove on your part that you own the CD. Unless you get sued and show up in court with a receipt proving you already have rights to play to keep and play the music... Can find a receipt from 1980 your problem:(
