    It's difficult to be all against walmart when. Even stuff from "Brand Names" is made also in China. Do a tag check on macys or Target.

    This proves what I keep saying. Now a days there is no difference, with brand you are buying. It's made by the same people (under pay kids in this case).
    Same sloppy lavor and quality standards.

    Because we need to move everything to 64bit. There is just no valid reason on staying on 32bit camp.
    With your argument we should still be using Netscape 3 over wine.

    Also most most linux distros come with Firefox 64bit preinstalled. So it make sence to use native (64bit) applications and plugins.

    Not complaining but have you seen the dependency hell that is using any recent GUI program... lots and los of libraries... That's all over head.

    In the Financial bussines. We need to keep all trading data for at least 7 years. Most client firms use automated quoting systems. So traffic is substantial. 100's of megabytes for multiple systems of data are generated each day.(Quoting, Trading, Clearing, Reporting, ...). IO performance and ACK in millisecond. Are also very important.

    chmod g+rw /dev/dvd
    and add your self to the group owning it?

    I had huge problems with all my AGP nvidia cards. The video use freeze. After a couple of minutes using X in my AMD Athlon 64 with a VIA chipset. The problem was VIA implementation of AGP. There is a setting in the closed source drivers to disable the NV AGP implementation.

    We are migrating Cobol mainframe applications from OS/360 to micro focus Cobol on i86. For once MC support is much cheaper and hardware maintenance is also cheap compared to IBM mainframe.

    In the past I used to buy hardware upgrades every 6months just to keep up with PC games. But now I'm seriously thinking only gaming on a console. My "OLD" Pentium IV 3.06Ghz with. Is still fairly powerfull for desktop software. And buying a console (even an expensive PS3 for 600) is cheaper than upgrading my PC. A console gives you a warranty of no harware upgrades bor 5 to 6 years. Can you get that from a PC?... NO!

    This i think is what the movie industry actually wants. That's probable ultimately one of the most important "features" of blue ray. Suddenly you cant just download in less than 30 minutes a high quality divx.

    Yes.
    The code is GPL but a company can claim the algoritms are infinging in their patented technology. This is exaclty what every body is afraid of with the Microsoft deal.

    I have my Tivo series one for about 6 years with a life time subscription. Upgraded drives twise, installed network card and hacked a ftp server. Life has been great :)

    I was on a meeting with top microsoft employess about 6 months ago and they were doing this thing about Windows been safer and with way less fixes. They had the facts and documents.

    A typical linux distro is made of 1000's of programs from different teams and programers all over the world. While Windows is only 100's or less programs. Yes of course you have more exploits on linux but. I think this is not a good statistic you need to realy count only Remote exploits of with linux has very few and windows/explorer one every other day.

    I been searching everywere for a HP-UX port. What I don't understand is that mozilla has builds for OS2 but not for HP-UX. I don't know you guys but I think HP-UX has way more active users than OS2.
    I know there is a "official" HP mozilla build. But I like more firefox (slimer and faster). Specialy because my desktop is not that fast (PA8500 400mhz).

    There are only a handfull of "main" warez group ftp sites. They are the ones doing the releases, games and craking protections. Tacking down ONE single group afects future warez releases a lot. Some of the warez groups have been arround since the Commodore64 days.

    Copyright holders are seeing more than this. Basicaly the assume that you are going to let others download a copy; increasing your penalty. ej. Joe Warez Rocket uploads HL2 and 100,000 guys download the pirated copy. So your punishment in theyr head should be 49.99$ x 100,000 = $4,999,000.00.
    Problem in this analogy is: one should not be punished for others violation of copiright law.

    This is not always as easy :

    As you see you sometimes need more validation than just knowing that there was an error. You need to be hable to "rollback" changes like making sure al file descriptors get closed.

    I run K-meleon where. On my Latitude CS. Specs :
    CPU 400Mhz
    HD 7200rpm
    RAM 386mb
    OS Win2K.

    Firefox is simply to slow on my system and eats most of my ram.
    K-meleon is FAST and memory efficient.

    Opera DOES NOT use native widgets. It uses QT widgets skined to look "native"

    The new Playstation if I remember correcly will be dual core based. So spect great advances in multithreaded gaming.

    We only need to wait for some IA, Rendering Engine or Physics Engine to start using multiple cores.
