  1. All of the delivery companies know to leave my packages in the old car next to the driveway. The car has four flats, won't run at all, and the doors are always unlocked. So far nobody has taken anything left in the car. You're right - out of sight, out of mind.

The only item I've ever had stolen was by a mail carrier. She cut the Amazon packing tape on the bottom of the box, took one of the two items inside, and taped the box back with clear packing tape. I made a complaint, but nothing ever came of it as far as I know. Haven't seen her again on my route, but I know it's damned near impossible to fire a postal employee,

There's no way in hell I'm letting anybody I don't know inside my house, garage, or shop. I don't even trust some of the people I've known for years. Why trust a stranger?

Amazon delivery is okay, but they need better routing around my area. They send a notice when they're eight or ten stops away so you can keep track of where they are. A lot of good that does when they're within a half mile of the house, but their next delivery is the other side of the county. Three stops away could mean they're in the neighborhood and will be here in twenty or thirty minutes, or it could also mean they're going to be another three hours getting to me. They drive way too far trying to deliver packages. You'd think Amazon would know that a computer would be able to route their vehicles much better and could save hundreds of miles a day.

I looked at some of the videos on your YouTube channel. The job you did with those jpgs on the Orion Nebula was quite impressive. Good work!

I find myself using by binoculars more often than I use my telescopes. My job requires a lot of traveling and it's impractical to lug one of my telescopes with me. The binoculars I carry with me are 10x50. They're small enough to not take up too much room amongst all my other baggage, but it's amazing what you can see with them..

This time I'll be at home the night of the eclipse with a day off the next day. I have a pair of 15x70s binoculars that I use on a tripod. The moon always looks good using them.

I promise I won't buy any new gear between now and then. Buying anything astronomy related causes clouds.

I watch YouTube at home on the big screen and with sound coming from a decent surround sound system. It's not all that bad, really. I honestly can't tell the difference. I bet most people can't.

There used to be a time when you could watch music videos on television, but those channels morphed into shit.

Exactly. I'm sure that 131 degrees Fahrenheit is not hot enough to kill the wee beasties found in a human body. We don't use human feces as fertilizer for much the same reasons. I guess it would be okay for non-edible plants to grow in.

When we compost plant material, one of our goals is killing whatever viable seeds there may be in it. That's fairly easy when the internal temperature of the compost is about 130 degrees or more. But bacteria would find those temps a virtual heaven for multiplying. Remember too, the highest temperature is only at the center of the compost pile. That's why we turn the pile regularly.

Not all commutes are so short.

Last week I worked Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in three different cities. My shortest "commute" was 204 miles round trip. The longest one was 280 miles. Once at work I averaged driving about 50 miles each day. Is there an electric half-ton pickup truck that could replace my truck?

Those jobs were fairly close to home. Sometimes I will put 400 or 500 miles on the truck in one day. I'd love to have an electric truck with that kind of range.

That's not a bad idea. With today's double-walled vacuum-insulated stainless steel cups, mugs, bottles, and tumblers (think Yeti) the water can stay cold for a long time.

Personally I use 1 liter polycarbonate bottles. They're not insulated, but I usually finish them off before the water gets too warm to drink. Just wash them out, refill with tap water and stick them in the fridge or ice-filled cooler.
