Who would be more interested in a/. submission about NZ Jetsteram and Telecom and the fact that they are legally ripping people off. Probably every/. user in NZ and possibly Oz.
BTW...I read this submission and it's crap and a waste of time unless you're going for your CS PhD so please don't mod this off-topic.
Someplace you can get useful info and useful *pertinent* submissions actually submitted? This article is crap and a waste of time. Please don't mod this offtopic. And who better to judge than me? I've been following this site for years under different guises.
a DVD player that will accept SVCD. I just bought one for NZ $149 which is probably about $90 US and it plays svcds, vcds, mp3s, has svideo, both coax and optical Dolby DIgital 5.1 and DTS and it's about an inch thick. It even has a friggin svga output for your computer! The thing rocks. Even if you spend US $400 or whatever it costs for a dvdr there I still recommend this player. It's a Mizuda.
Oh...and it has two mic inputs for karoke dvds for those without a life (which probably describes most of us or we wouldn't be reading this crap).
No regions either! Good for guys like me who move to NZ from the US with as bunch of Region 1 and Region 4. Macrovision I haven't tested and besides I have a physical stabiliser that fixes that for my vcr and of course PowerDVD for the 'puter.
NZ bills have see-through embossed plastic windows and last time I checked my Lexmark I didn't see a cartridge that would replace paper with clear embossed plastic.
Maybe the US should just make the face bigger. Yeah...that should do it.
I've got 10 applications submitted and pending for SW patents, 9 with HP and 1 with Sharp Labs of America. In the US, UK, JP and ES. Simply for solving problems lots of people (at least the smarter ones) would have solved in similar situations.
At the end of the day, while you guys are whining about the PTOs giving out patents willy-nilly, I'll be gloating over the ones hanging on my wall. So there. Ha ha.
Screw the ethics. My company was willing to spend the money. I probably violate 10 patents everytime I code and someone out there has violated mine, but all that is a paper game for most of us.
I can't get a Slashdot post submitted to save my life, but 10 years from now those patents will mean a lot more to me than any 1,000/. posts could possibly mean.
BTW... it'll end. The PTO is starting to wise up so grab those patents while you can!
Thanks Rev Saxon. That guy (who most notably left his post anonymously) obviously didn't get it. I hate MS as much as the next guy. I've used both professionally (software engineer). Damn, I even MET Linus and told him how great Linux was at Linux World 2001 at NYC.
What I was *really* bitching about was trying to submit valid posts and getting every one rejected and then seeing the latest one rejected just to be accepted by someone else a little later in the day.
That guy (and I hope he reads this) sounds like one of those moronic 'Linux Rulz because it's kewl!' guys. Fucking idiot.
I submitted this story hours earlier than the one that got posted and it got rejected, just like every other thing I've ever posted. No reason of course. Do I have to subscribe to get something posted? Like THAT's ever gonna happen.
Bite me/. editors. Really. For that matter 98% of/. readers can bite me, too. Always moaning about how evil MS is and how great you are because you take the so-called high road of Linux. Read up on Darwinism. MS will be around long after most of the Linux startups.

So if I put water in the gas tank of my new car and the engine is defective I have legal recourse against the car manufacturer?
Just one more reason I moved out of that idiotic country. Too many laws protecting the stupid person who can't read the fucking manual and gets burnt.
Take personal responsibility.
I'm in NZ where we have the same thing. There's a finite amount of bandwidth so we get charged by the MB. Southern Cross cable. Under the water. I think they used standard telephone cable. Scary thing is that DSL here is fast as hell so you can go through your 1 GB/month in a couple of hours with no problem.
I'm in Christchurch, NZ and just tried sending an email to my wife's grandparents@AOL.COM and it keeps getting bounced by AOL. We use xtra, NZ's piece of shit service (and I *know* it's a piece of shit because I used to have @home in the US and I now know what a piece of shit service looks like.
What are you doing, writing your homeowners association for 'permission'? Just sit down and code and sell it on the net. You don't have streams of customers coming in and out and you use your phone and email for everything. I've been writing software from home for 20 years in several countries (including the US) and never asked permission. Never even occurred to me. That's dumb. Maybe you should look into a new career as a sheep.
...like I did. Only thing you have to worry about here is US$300 for going one GB over the monthly limit. Connection's fast as hell which allows one to reach that limit in minutes.

They'll fix the counterfeiting problem like they fixed CD's by making the money not work anywhere.

Now instead of $5 for a transistor radio I can get a really cool one for $500. Technology rocks.
He split the beer atom in his backyard for a lot less money. Now THAT's something to be terrified of!

Hoax? He lived across the street from my friends on Wildberry St. in Woolston. It's real. Next you'll be telling me Paddy didn't see a moa. Mark
Richard Pearse beat the Wright brothers out in the heavier than air category. He lived right here in CHristchurch, NZ
So when my wife forgets to tell me she's watching Jurassic Park and I walk into the living room and see the TRex outside I'll keel over.
others have felt that way before
MBBS let you do that very thing back in the late 80's. That would be prior art.
Your CEO must give damn good bobbling head to make $64M. We're not talking about Carly, are we?
..they make good voodoo dolls. fill it with pins and leave it in front of the guy's door. Maybe he'll get a clue.
Get it?
