There was a sub-story in an Alastair Reynolds book where they (the Americans?) attempted this. The result was a psychotic group of colonists. The robots couldn't raise them to be well-adjusted people and ultimately the colony failed. It was a neat little story but i'd think there would be more success than failure. The robots could always vent the atmosphere killing that batch of humans. They can think about what went wrong and start over with a new batch : )
The landmine is probably the most popular autonomous weapon.. though not a robot. I'd imagine future robots would be similar. Solar powered sniper bot over-watching a field? "Hey LT, where'd we leave that sniper bot?" "I know exactly where! I marked it on my map!" *groan*
I remember in T3 they did some explaining of this. Skynet was actively trying to break into nuclear control and other sensitive military targets. The Airforce thought it was a virus and tried to use Skynet to defeat the virus. When they let Skynet in to fix things, it just took over and launched the nukes.
If someone brought one of my machines down with a message "This machine was used in an attack on my network because it is part of X botnet." I would be angry. Angry that i was in a botnet, not that someone sought to fix it. Though that is just me : )
I've only been rooted once (that i've been able to discover). Around 2003 i installed a redhat box from disc (big mistake) and left it unpatched for a few days. Went in to patch it and found a shitstorm of garbage installed on it. Traced it back to an ssh bug.. which was a waste of time. That bug had been patched for a long time. When it comes to windows, i don't know where to even start to track back a hack. Format, reinstall, and pray it was a trojan i let in (PEBCAK) and not a worm.
That doesn't sound right to me. Couldn't you install any version of gtk to meet the dependency of a program? I know i've had QT and E programs in gnome before. Gnome might be rendering with a specific version, but each program can be something else entirely.
I often hear the same. Personally i think the truth matters more but damn it will keep you from getting employed. Sometimes you have to put on the mask and play the part.
hahah, i agree. She obviously hasn't done much "safe adventuring" either. The guides and groupies around rafting heads and rock faces look and smell the same way. Not that it is bad. It's just the norm. We don't even need to get into camping or being in the field for days/weeks. Showering with baby-wipes can be glorious!
I'm a big fan of their RTS games as well : )
You are probably the minority here.

She's more into L4D2, but thank you for your concern : )
How about this for an RTS game : )

how is Gentoo these days? sometimes i think of bootstrapping again and ditching Ubuntu.. but haven't the motivation yet.
Seems like that depends on who is enforcing the law.

So, where are the internet cops?
Damage to the botnet is "good".
Prefixes are for features that don't have a standard yet. Less rage please.

They don't have to look through your docs. They just look at the place the malware is phoning home to.
If you opened the google doc, nothing would happen. It is a communication medium between command & control and the infected machines.
The already exploited box is the one putting information on google docs. It is used as a communication medium, like IRC or a p2p protocol.
Is their intention to kill innocent people? or something else?
Cool, i'll give it a shot. I'm still a FF fan, at the moment. Mostly because my experience is similar on the linux box and windows both.
What makes it better? are you using the win7 version?

They seem to use crushed up bio matter (sticks, grass) for fuel.
They use steam power that comes from burnt bio matter that has been pelletized.
