You can choose whatever dependancies you want. If the system doesn't have it they will be pulled down along with your application. Version changes in libs are usually minor and won't affect your program (except make it more stable via bug fixes).

Major version changes are usually installed side-by-side with the older version until the old version becomes depreciated and removed. Even then, there is nothing stopping you from shipping or requiring the older version. But if there are bugs in the older lib it's likely you will have to do the patching yourself (which should be possible since it's almost all gpl'd).

People use to talk about firefox/mozilla/netscape the way you talk about opera. Back when IE had something crazy like 90% of the market.

It was the guys using beta mozilla stuff that helped bring FF usage to what it is today. So don't be so quick to feel sorry for anyone using Opera. They might just be using the browser that everyone (the zerg) will be using a few years down the road.

Good food can be found in most non-franchise diners/grills/pub/deli/cafe. Franchised restaraunts are nearly identical to each other.. so if you find a meal you like from a franchise store, you can pretty much find that exact meal in the surrounding towns/states.

My time spent in Germany is similar to yours. Most of the food was good. But there was also little variation and each place had virtually the same menu.. unless you ate Italian or another type of food.

Typing on an ipad, being handheld, you would always have to hold it or temporarily affix it to something in between using it and doing something else. If the ipad was bumpered and had some velco on it with corresponding strips on your thigh (for temp storage and perhaps reference) and perhaps chest (for storage) it would work very well. The formfactor is great. There are many many Android tablets in the ipad form as well.. ebay has tons.
