Fingerprints seem only useful for identification in my mind, why do you find it ridiculous that the government wants them? Identification is very important and always has been. In this case the fingerprint also identifies a physical object you've touched or place you've been. The print itself has ZERO information about you. Nobody can tell anything about you from a print.. heck your first name reveals more about you than your print. Are you afraid of giving your name away?

oh, i know a fantastic example. Babies. When a baby is born it is immediately "footprinted" so that there can be no mistake who's baby it really is. Is that such a terrible thing?

Your truck/car is registered with a VIN/make/model/color and your name. There is a delicate chain of paperwork that connects you to your name and you should be glad those documents exist. Most States require an index or thumb print to get your drivers license now too. You may not be able to avoid staying unprinted for very long.

I have heard many people say what you're describing. That it takes years to get equal to players already in the game. I have two Characters that are several years old (one PVP+Capital, the other a Carebear), what you describe is exactly true. But i also think people are stuck in this mindset of "He's older so he's rich and stronger and i can never beat him." Which is very untrue. EVE is like rock-paper-scissors with spaceships on steroids. Get into a BlackBird (t1 cruiser) and your buddy in a Rupture (t1 cruiser) and you can take down more than you thought possible.

Anyways, I very much like the fact that someone can't max their PVP skills AND max their carebear skills... that adds so much to the game.. actual character Classes that aren't selected as much as created over time. Honestly, i PVP with my Carebear in a rupture far far more than with my PVP alt in his Battleship (lvl5) & T2 everything ships.

Eve is all about having friends you get along with, in my opinion.

For pvp i'd suggest joining a good empire based Merc corporation/alliance. Just alternate between learning and core pvp skills so you don't get bored with training. Fly a frigate with rat loot fitted in as many battles as you can. You'll quickly figure out what type of ship fits your game play style. A good corp will also practice with you and help you fit your ship.

For starting out as a carebear, i'd suggest joining a smallish 15-40 man empire based industrial Corporation. This way you get to know your corpies pretty well and still have enough man power to work on larger projects like T2 invention/production and capital ship production.

Eventually you might want to turn your attention to joining a 0.0 alliance (or push your corp to join.. politics can be fun too). But you should never accept a corporation that abuses it's members or uses it's members to make a few wealthy. There are hundreds of great groups out there, you'll find the one you fit in best, i'm sure.

Turn down the lights and play alone in the dark, that helps too. I personally dread Boomers.. there's nothing like getting puked on.. you can't see for one and you can hear the hoard of zombies coming for you. I try to hide in a corner and blast anything moving (it's hard to see with puke all over your face, btw) More often than not i end up incapacitated or dead if the team is busy fighting off a Hunter or something. In the case of steam though, a VAC ban and you lost the game.. forever. The only cases where a person can escape a VAC ban and not lose their account is with internet cafes. But i know some places automatically kick all SteamIDs in the internetcafe band of ids. Voogru made a mod that specifically does this.

Something else Valve does to complicate matters is once your hack is detected.. they don't do anything for days or weeks. They randomly wait and pretend it didn't happen. Then bam, VACbanned. So someone researching vulnerabilities won't know which one was detected, or which game, or when.

Is it worth cheating if you get VAC banned and have to rebuy the game? That arms race sounds very expensive..

I think the whole college book thing is a scam. Other than law and tax books, there isn't a need for a new edition every year that is a compulsory upgrade.

The campus bookstore makes a killing from students then rebuys the book for 1/2 the sell price (if the edition is still new). Then they mark it up close to the original sell price and resell it. After a semester or two most students discover half.com or ebay to get their books. But now you are running into things like Professors announcing which required books you need for the next semester. It takes a week or two minimum to get your book online. arg, so painful : /

Anyways, i don't think a lot of school book publishers will support the ebook thing because they can't buy it back and resell it. Not only that, but once it's electronic the ability to copy and redistribute is much easier. Arguably, the college student demographic does a lot of pirating.

I remember when they literally doubled the hull/armor/shield points of every ship in EVE, that was crazy. But all these changes keep the game fun and on a level playing field. Small ships will be a viable option in fleets again.
