    I hate people saying it's explosive. Have you ever seen it explode? Ever hear of it exploding? NO. You haven't. It might not even be explosive, as we can't test it. There's probably never been 2 atoms of the element within a centemeter of each other since the creation of the planet.

    If the LHC produces black holes, then we know that black holes are produced when cosmic rays hit the higher reaches of the atmosphere. Same sort of energy levels, just more controlable and repeatable down here. So, by theory of 'we're not gone yet' it figures that we will be pretty safe.

    You'd need a nano-blackhole with the mass of everest or so for it not to decay in seconds, iirc. 2 protons don't cut it buddy.

    Actually, if there is any rocky core at all, the planet will most likely be pushed out due to tidal friction. The question is how the planet, and all the otheres, got so close there in the first place.

    Er that's not *quite* true. If you take a nice swack of polarized like, and put it at a filter to about a 45 degree rotation, and then another filter a little further on with another 45 degree polarization, you will have about a quarter(IIRC) of your origial light intensity being polarized in the new direction.
