I would disagree with this way of looking at a managerial position. When heading up any sort of group, including an entire business, you should be at least mildly educated in each sect under your authority. This tends to be a well known method of management. While I do not claim to be an actual business owner, I have been educated on the topic from different sources (books, networking, classes, etc.). While I do agree on the topic that one must be able to cut a project when necessary, this does not constitute incompetance in the technical fields you're overseeing. In fact, without a general understanding, you may be more likely to make mistakes in this particular decision making, among many other important decisions. I'm also not saying that you should hold the hand of everyone under you; that is theoretically impossible; but what is not impossible is the ability to communicate on their level to come to a much better understanding of their (and hence your) situations. Anyway, thats my 1.5 cents on the subject.

A balance between Religion and Science, or self control? I believe the latter is more appropriate. We as a society tend to blame everything on everyone else, claiming the least responsibility. If we were to pick up after ourselves, and look out for our own future and those of others, we would be fine proliferating science to any degree. Any level of science has its pros and cons, being an intrinsic quality of any worth-while field. This even includes theology. When one discovery is made, the appropriate contra-field should be in place as immediately as possible; being the responsibility of society in general. This is the balance I believe in. DISCLAIMER: All above is IMHO.

It figures. You're just like him (if not him anyway). You believe that one person symbolizes an entire society. You believe that what I think, and what I said, everyone else in america would say. Just one question: do you believe in any sortof individualism? Or does everyone around you wear the same clothes, and think the same thoughts simultaneously?

Put it this way: what if aliens landed in America. If they thought like you do, they would immediately classify Earthlings as the Americans they had seen. Maybe they are as radical as you are; and hate what they see. Maybe this hatred drives them to destroy the world. I bet you feel pretty small knowing you didn't get a chance to show them the rest of the world; outside of America.

So... you hate logic? You hate it when someone disproves a radicalist bullshit argument thats anti-american? I'm just curious as to how people like you think... Maybe anything anti-anti-american is "wrong," no matter what the argument is. That makes sense... yeah, sure.

Then the argument comes (as previously stated) that I'm only saying this because I am American. This is such a logical fallacy. First of all, it doesn't matter _why_ I say it. It matters _what_ I say. This happens a lot with radicalist arguments. They're called inductive fallacies. Not to mention attacking the person, and countless others.

This reminds me when I was arguing with a racist white person. I (who am white), was arguing on the behalf of the colored. The man insisted I was black and would hear nothing more from a n****. I just laughed at him; like I happen to be laughing now.

I tend to like arguing about this kind of material; against anyone willing to subject an entire group to the effects of one or more included subjects. I don't know why, because people that I argue with on this always seem irrational, and thickheaded. I guess I just like putting my point of view out there in the hopes that someone out there will give me a rational argument for once. Please, If someone out there disagrees with me, and would like to actually state a valid argument, PLEASE reply. God knows I've been waiting for someone like that for years.

I would understand this attitude if the torture hasn't happened yet, therefore giving your mother the possibility of stopping the results from occuring; but it is not so in this scenario. Your mother would have had no part of the torture. The information is now available; but yet she would not accept it because of the means? Note that she would not be in any way giving anything in return to the "providers" if the cure (the torturers).

Information should NEVER be ignored if it can do good; no matter what the means of them coming into play are. The idea of it is proposterous and stubborn. Either way, how is accepting knowledge for benefit do any harm to anyone, when you do not give the provider any benefits?

The reason this happens is because the media's goal is to relate the story to the audience better, therefore making them more interested.

This is basic psychology. The media and politicians, the ones who are heard the most (and therefore representative of our society here in America, albiet NOT correct as most people seem to believe), do relate foreign politics and events by going to what the commoner understands and knows on a daily basis, therfore being more effective. This is not a matter of who we love more than the other, or "we don't really give a shit about anyone else," as EVERYONE seems to fucking think.

This crap drives me nuts, as its hypocritical to say "Americans are evil because Americans are biased." C'mon, read the sentence closely. Figure it out for yourself. Its silly.

Secondly, you say that he's being hypocritical in saying we should make good from it. Let me suggest a scenario that might draw the picture better...
If a person is tortured for 3 years, and somehow someone gets the cure to cancer from this action, should we disacknowledge the cure because of how we obtained it?

I know I sure as hell wouldn't, concidering my mother has breast cancer. I would never have condoned the torture, but I'd sure as hell reap the benefits.
